Rao Jie looked at him strangely, realizing what was going on with Wu Rong. Was he... jealous?
For the past couple of days, Rao Jie had been in contact with Long Yong. Just moments ago, she received a message from Long Yong, who wanted to come see her with He Dong and asked if that was okay.
Asking Rao Jie was essentially asking Wu Rong and Wu Xin, since this was their home, but they would definitely refuse, so Long Yong turned to Rao Jie instead.
Rao Jie felt a bit awkward and was about to decline when Wu Rong suddenly spoke up, "If they want to come, let them."
Rao Jie was taken aback and looked up at Wu Rong in surprise.
Wu Rong's expression was sour, but he insisted, "Don't think of yourself as an outsider. You live here; you can invite whoever you want. It doesn't matter."
Rao Jie was even more surprised. "But that's... a senior." Wasn't Wu Rong quite averse to seniors?
Wu Rong feigned generosity. "It’s fine. Anyway, you're in my house; am I supposed to be afraid he’ll take you away?"
Rao Jie felt her cheeks flush at his words.
Wu Rong seemed a bit uncomfortable as he continued, "In any case, living here won’t bring you any unpleasantness. This is your home; you have the freedom."
Rao Jie gradually realized that Wu Rong was indirectly trying to get her to stay longer. Had it really taken almost a week for him to bring this up? Had he been anxious all this time?
So every time she picked up her phone to message someone, he felt nervous? Was he afraid she might leave with Long Yong without thinking?
An image of Wu Rong formed in Rao Jie’s mind—a little dog that should be proud and hard to approach but couldn’t help but show a pitiful expression when it sensed its owner might leave, as if pleading for something.
The thought of the once aloof and proud Wu Rong taking on such a vulnerable image made her want to laugh.
Her heart softened a bit, though she didn’t show it; Wu Rong grew increasingly uneasy. Unable to hold back any longer, he reached out and took Rao Jie's hand directly.
Rao Jie jumped in surprise and widened her eyes at him.
Wu Rong stared earnestly at her and said, "I know I upset you last time. Ye Ming helped me analyze it; I admit my emotional intelligence is low and I don’t know how to express myself properly. But I want to make it clear that I never meant to belittle you or think of you as convenient or accustomed to me. I'm sorry, so please don’t move out. I promise not to touch you without your permission again, and I won’t be harsh with you anymore. I will treat you well."
Rao Jie’s eyes flickered, as if the surface of a lake had been brushed by the wind, creating very slight ripples.
Wu Rong, in a sense, felt quite foolish; she knew that. His actions always left her feeling confused, and she wanted to clarify things.
“Do you… do you like me? When you said you wanted me to be your girlfriend, was it because you like me?”
Wu Rong looked at her seriously, his hands tightening involuntarily from nervousness.
Rao Jie was also tense, so she didn’t notice Wu Rong’s grip.
“I feel restless when I can’t see you, and when I’m with you, I become even more anxious, at a loss for what to do. I just want to hold you, kiss you, and keep you all to myself.”
“I care about you so much. When I come back to my senses, my mind is filled with thoughts of you. I’ve tried immersing myself in the world of mathematics, but nothing can overshadow your image in my mind.”
“It’s true what they say—I don’t understand emotions. If this doesn’t count as liking you, then I suppose I’ll never be able to like anyone in my life.”
