As Wu Rong spoke, Rao Jie listened quietly, her soft gaze fixed on him. Unable to resist, Wu Rong leaned in a little closer. The distance between their faces continued to shrink. When Wu Rong caught the sweet scent that belonged solely to Rao Jie, he felt a sense of calm wash over him.
"Do you know? You have this sweet fragrance that no one else can smell, not even you. But in my mind, it’s as delightful as the best dessert... irresistibly sweet. I know I will never be able to escape this scent for the rest of my life," Wu Rong said, leaning in closer to Rao Jie’s neck as he spoke.
Rao Jie had been listening intently, but now she felt a wave of nervousness and shyness wash over her, rendering her unable to move or even voice a protest. Wu Rong's words were utterly enchanting. It felt as if she had been hypnotized; despite her initial resistance, that feeling had faded away.
Wu Rong's lips seemed so close to her neck that with the slightest movement, they could touch. Rao Jie’s body stiffened, and she nervously swallowed. Yet, Wu Rong did not make contact; instead, he lifted his head and said earnestly, "If you don’t dislike me, stay with me."
"I will make you fall for me!"
Rao Jie felt as if her heart was being grasped by an invisible hand belonging to Wu Rong, squeezing and kneading it while she could only helplessly feel the pressure. In her flustered state, she raised her gaze and was instantly captured by the depth of Wu Rong's eyes, which seemed to draw her soul into the dazzling darkness within them.
"Nothing is certain. Right now, I don’t know how to handle this. I can’t just stay here forever..." Rao Jie struggled to find the right words. Her heart was in turmoil, completely different from how she felt when Long Yong confessed to her.
Wu Rong suddenly interjected, "Two months..."
Rao Jie was taken aback.
Wu Rong continued straightforwardly, "Give me two months. I know you’re not planning to go home. In two months, it will be March, and your school will allow you to move back into the dorms. During these two months, you can stay here with me. I will do everything I can to pursue you. If I succeed, you won’t leave; if I fail, I won’t bother you anymore or make things difficult for you. How does that sound?"
Rao Jie hesitated.
Wu Rong pressed on with a tone of feigned grievance, "You gave Long Yong a chance to pursue you; you can't be unfair about this. Am I not as important to you as he is? Please give me a chance too!"
Rao Jie felt a tremor in her heart at Wu Rong's tone and found herself subtly swayed by his proposal. He seemed to have thought everything through; all she had to do was cooperate. If it didn’t work out later on, she could simply leave—surely things wouldn’t be more awkward than they already were.
Rao Jie didn't want to deceive herself; Wu Rong was indeed different in her heart. After this experience, she felt even more so. Although she couldn't articulate it clearly now, she wanted to explore it further.
Wu Rong looked at her with bright, eager eyes.
Under such a gaze, Rao Jie finally felt a strong urge to break through her own barriers and nodded.
In a moment of excitement, Wu Rong almost reached out to embrace Rao Jie. Rao Jie trembled slightly, instinctively preparing herself for the hug, but Wu Rong's movement suddenly halted, and she withdrew.
"I'm sorry, I got carried away. I promised not to touch you. For these two months, I will absolutely refrain from doing anything that might trouble you."
Rao Jie felt touched in her heart but also experienced an inexplicable sense of disappointment.
