If the first half of her previous life was a Flourishing Blossom, then the arrival of the apocalypse was a struggle of extraordinary hardship. Su Ruolan never imagined that her fate would be so tumultuous. Walking on Longhu Mountain, she recalled the moments spent climbing mountains with him in her past life. 0

The apocalypse struck suddenly, transforming humans into Zombies. The virus surged forth, originating from Northeast China and rapidly spreading southward, leaving no city in the southeastern coastal areas or the central and western regions unscathed. In Northern B City, Central H City, and Southern City G, the government quickly activated emergency protocols, issuing announcements to seal off infected areas and researching an antidote for the Zombie Virus. Head of State Dai Guozheng declared a state of martial law across the nation, marking the beginning of a new era of struggle between humanity and Zombies. 0

Countless humans were mutated into Zombies after the apocalypse, losing their emotions and thoughts. Their sole purpose for survival became killing and consuming fresh human flesh. Compared to ordinary people, Zombies were stronger, tireless, devoid of emotional ties, and harder to kill. The land of China was plunged into a hellish nightmare. Ordinary people were bitten and injured, dying only to transform into new members of the Zombie horde. Thousands perished; infrastructure was destroyed; communication was severed; supplies of oil, electricity, water, and gas gradually ceased; production came to a halt; social and commercial life ground to a standstill. People shifted from arrogance and ignorance to fear and panic, from complete trust in the government to doubt and suspicion. Some extremists began looting and rioting, leading to chaos in social order. The human world was reborn in turmoil, with the facade of beauty stripped away to reveal its cold and cruel fangs, confronting the dark side of human nature. Su Ruolan witnessed firsthand how parents, children, lovers, and friends sent their loved ones into the mouths of Zombies just to survive. 0

Light and darkness have always coexisted. As the darkness within human nature erupted, people increasingly sought out the light within it. At this time, Jiang Zhilin, commander of the military district in City G, rose to prominence. Born into a well-off family with handsome features likened to orchids and jade trees, he was named Jiang Zhilin. After Dai Guozheng was elected as Head of State, he happened to return to his hometown for an inspection where Jiang Zhilin served as security at the inspection site. Unlike others who were fearful and respectful in his presence, Jiang Zhilin displayed calmness and composure that greatly impressed Dai Guozheng. Upon returning to Beijing, he took Jiang Zhilin under his wing for training and even arranged for his only granddaughter to marry him. To provide Jiang Zhilin with greater opportunities for development, he assigned him to the military district in City G. It was clear to all that Dai Guozheng intended to hand over his elite troops to Jiang Zhilin to establish his authority within the military before gradually transitioning power. 0

After the apocalypse began, Dai Guozheng called upon everyone to unite against the enemy, standing together with the government and its people. Jiang Zhilin actively responded by launching several large-scale extermination campaigns, most notably the Battle of Huiyang. Huiyang was a picturesque town under City G's jurisdiction—economically underdeveloped but politically significant—covering an area of 40 square kilometers with a population of ten thousand. After the apocalypse struck, Jiang Zhilin led his troops swiftly into Huiyang, killing thousands of Zombies in one fell swoop and breaking through a dire siege situation while successfully relocating ten thousand people back to City G. This marked the first instance since the apocalypse where humans escaped from a city besieged by Zombies without succumbing to death or destruction—a story that spread throughout human society like wildfire, greatly boosting morale as hope flickered anew. Zombies were no longer seen as invincible; countless individuals regarded Jiang Zhilin as a new leader while passionate youth eagerly answered the government's call by joining City G's City Guard. 0

Thinking back on that Battle of Huiyang made Su Ruolan momentarily dazed; if it weren't for that massacre in Huiyang, she wouldn't have embarked on this path. She remembered that night—the sky darkened with purple-black clouds as torrential rain poured down amidst thunder and lightning over a chaotic city where bullets flew alongside bombs while terrified people ran for their lives amidst ferocious Zombies; bright red blood stained the famous Lan River within the town. Fate diverged at this point yet offered no choice. 0

"Monet, how far is it from here to Longhu Mountain's exit?" Su Ruolan asked. 0

"Just over this hill," Monet replied as he paused to look around before confirming. 0

"Alright then; once we exit the mountain, you can enter my space—be my secret weapon at critical moments," Su Ruolan teased. 0

The journey down from the mountain went remarkably smoothly; it was still that same mountain but seemed devoid of its former spirit. A few Zombie animals they encountered were easily dealt with. 0

As they pushed through tall grass, a concrete road appeared before them. Finally free from trudging along muddy paths! After walking some distance forward, they came across four severely damaged vehicles haphazardly strewn across the road—one car had crashed headfirst into a guardrail with its front end crumpled inward while its hood lay twisted open like something had sliced through it. The roof bore long gashes as if cut by sharp instruments while bullet holes peppered its windshield—unevenly spaced with some wide and others narrow. 0

Every car was filled with the dead; some had their heads blown apart, while others had turned into zombies, feasting on the innards of nearby humans. As they sensed Su Ruolan passing by, they began to stir, desperately banging against the locked doors, eager to get out. Upon seeing this, Su Ruolan swiftly dispatched them with an Ice Spike, ending their desperate existence. 0

As she passed the third overturned vehicle, a muffled voice suddenly called out, "Is anyone there?" 0

Su Ruolan crouched down and was momentarily taken aback. "Miss, is that you? What a coincidence!" 0

Zhang Yu was slumped in the driver's seat, one hand hanging limply at his side while the other gripped a Golden Eagle, its muzzle aimed directly at Su Ruolan's face. His posture was somewhat contorted, with an airbag lodged against his chest. The windshield was intact except for a single bullet hole. 0

"Miss, could you help pull me out? My leg is stuck," Zhang Yu said with a cheeky grin. To an outsider, he seemed completely unharmed. 0

Although Su Ruolan had only glanced at him briefly, she could see multiple fractures on Zhang Yu's body. When they had met at the mysterious supermarket, she had sensed that he would be trouble and had intended to avoid him. But now that they were face to face, ignoring him was no longer an option; if she didn't help him, her conscience would weigh heavily. 0

"I never help someone for free. If I save you, that makes two lives owed to me. How do you plan to repay me?" Su Ruolan pondered for a moment before asking. 0

"Miss, how about I offer myself in return? A charming and handsome man like me—what do you say?" Zhang Yu flirted playfully, blinking coyly. 0

"You? I don't think I'm worthy of such a gift. If you're not sincere, I'll just leave you here to wait for the next wave of people," Su Ruolan replied as she stood up and prepared to walk away. 0

Seeing Su Ruolan actually turning to leave without a backward glance made Zhang Yu's confident smile fade. "Wait! What do you want?" he called out urgently. 0

Hearing Zhang Yu relent, Su Ruolan smiled lightly and paused. She turned back and approached the front of the car again, crouching down to meet his gaze directly. "You need to guarantee my safety among the people at H Base if I decide to save you." 0

Zhang Yu's pupils constricted slightly, but he maintained his carefree demeanor as he replied, "I promise you my protection; your safety is absolutely assured." 0

“Young Commander, let's be clear. As long as you swear on your soul to guarantee my safety during my time at H Base, no one can harm me, including you. Then I will save you.” Su Ruolan leaned forward slightly, getting a bit closer to Zhang Yu. 0

“Alright, I agree, but this only applies within H Base. Once we leave, life and death are no longer my concern,” Zhang Yu replied readily. 0
