"Let's get a divorce." Su Nian's tone was calm, as if she were merely discussing the weather.
However, the divorce agreement she handed over detonated like a bomb in Lu Jingxuan's luxurious office. After three years of marriage, all she had received was endless coldness and her mother-in-law's harshness. Now, she could no longer endure it.
Lu Jingxuan sneered, thinking Su Nian was just throwing a tantrum. "Divorce? You’ll leave with nothing. Where will you go?" He casually flipped through the documents, not taking Su Nian's determination seriously at all.
Su Nian let out a light laugh, but there was no trace of amusement in her eyes; instead, they radiated a chilling coldness. "Leave with nothing?" She pulled out another document from her bag and calmly spread it on Lu Jingxuan's desk. "Mr. Lu, I believe you’ve forgotten about the Prenuptial Agreement?"
"And these..." Her slender fingers pointed at the photos and records on the document. "I think they are sufficient to prove your infidelity during our marriage and to ensure I receive the compensation I deserve."
Lu Jingxuan's disdain instantly froze on his face. He grabbed the document and scanned it rapidly, his complexion shifting from pale to green, then to red, before he erupted in fury. He tore the document to shreds and pointed at Su Nian, shouting, "You dared to investigate me? How could you dare to investigate me!"
Su Nian's eyes reddened slightly, but she stubbornly refused to cry. "Lu Jingxuan," she took a deep breath, striving to maintain her composure, "the moment you chose to betray me, we were finished." She turned to leave, her high heels clicking sharply against the marble floor with each step, echoing in Lu Jingxuan's heart and shattering his last hopes.
Stepping out of the company building, warm sunlight bathed Su Nian but could not dispel the chill in her heart. She took out her phone and dialed her lawyer's number. "Lawyer Wang, please prepare the divorce lawsuit materials right away; the sooner, the better."
Meanwhile, in Gu Tingchen's office, his assistant respectfully reported, "Mr. Gu, Miss Su has officially filed for divorce in court."
Gu Tingchen set down his pen, his gaze deepening as a barely perceptible smile tugged at the corners of his mouth. "I understand," he instructed lightly. "Contact Lawyer Wang and have him fully cooperate with Miss Su."
Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating Gu Tingchen's chiseled features as he gazed out at the bustling street below, lost in thought.
A few days later, accompanied by Lin Weiwei, Su Nian returned to her former "home"—the Lu Family Villa. She only took a few simple pieces of clothing and some important design drafts; everything else remained behind.
"Niannian, don’t be sad; you’ll have a better life after leaving here," Lin Weiwei said sympathetically as she hugged Su Nian and gently patted her back. "That scumbag doesn’t deserve you; you deserve better!"
Su Nian forced a smile. "Weiwei, thank you; it’s so good to have you here." She looked around this villa that had once been filled with laughter but now felt cold and empty inside her heart—a mix of emotions swirling within her.
At that moment, Zhao Shufen stormed in, her presence commanding. "Su Nian, what do you mean by this? Are you trying to take away the Lu Family's assets?" Her sharp voice echoed in the empty living room.
Su Nian looked coldly at Zhao Shufen, her eyes betraying no fear. "Ms. Zhao, the division of assets will be decided by the court. I will not take a penny more or less." She grabbed her suitcase and walked straight toward the door. "From today on, I have nothing to do with the Lu Family."
Zhao Shufen wanted to say something more but was intimidated by Su Nian's resolute gaze. She could only watch helplessly as Su Nian and Lin Weiwei exited the villa, disappearing from her sight. Sunlight poured onto the empty villa entrance, as if celebrating Su Nian's new beginning. Su Nian glanced back once, her expression firm and devoid of any lingering attachment, before opening the car door and getting inside.
Lin Weiwei started the car and glanced at the rearview mirror, softly saying, "Niannian, what are your plans next?"
Su Nian took a deep breath, her gaze fixed on the rapidly retreating scenery outside the window. "First, I'll find a quiet place to settle down, then focus on preparing for my personal design exhibition." She paused for a moment, a faint bitter smile appearing on her lips. "The divorce has caused quite a stir; Lu Jingxuan probably won't let it go easily."
Lin Weiwei grasped Su Nian's hand, offering an encouraging look. "Don't worry; I'm here for you! We'll face whatever comes our way together. Even if the sky falls, I'll be there to support you!"
Su Nian squeezed Lin Weiwei's hand back, smiling gratefully. The leaves of the sycamore trees by the roadside swayed gently in the breeze, sunlight filtering through the gaps in the leaves and casting dappled shadows inside the car, softening Su Nian's features.
The car glided smoothly along the wide road, soothing music playing inside. Su Nian closed her eyes and leaned back in her seat, trying hard to relax.
Meanwhile, in Gu Tingchen's office, his assistant stood respectfully in front of his desk, reporting the latest developments. "Mr. Gu, Miss Su has moved out of Lu Family Villa and is currently living with Miss Lin in a serviced apartment downtown."
Gu Tingchen lightly tapped his fingers on the desk in a rhythmic manner. He nodded slightly. "Continue to monitor her movements and report any developments to me promptly."
The assistant hesitated for a moment before speaking up. "Mr. Gu, Qin Mingyu has been contacting Miss Su frequently lately and seems to be interested in pursuing her."
