In the evening, Tong Bailong hurried to the hospital to take over for Jufeng as soon as military training ended. Jufeng had the responsibility of managing the daily lives of three people, which was certainly no easy task.
“Tong Bailong,” Jufeng said while eating hastily at a restaurant next to the hospital with a tall companion. He pulled out a large stack of brand-new bills from his pocket and instructed Tong Bailong, “Send this money home to your family. Don’t let them worry. Tonight, I’ll be working as a bodyguard, so put aside the courier job for now. Once things improve, we can discuss it further.”
Tong Bailong felt embarrassed about accepting Jufeng's assistance and was about to refuse, but seeing Jufeng's determined gaze made him relent.
“Okay, Brother Jufeng, I’ll follow your arrangements. No one has treated me well since I was young; you are the best person to me besides my family. I’ll stick with you for life!”
Jufeng chuckled, patting the big guy on the shoulder, wiping a bit of grease from the corner of his mouth casually before settling the bill and leaving first.
This was Jufeng’s first time working as a bodyguard for someone else, and also his first experience living with five women. Thinking about it, a ruthless killer who never showed mercy was feeling somewhat nervous at that moment.
Jufeng inwardly grumbled that he would rather face five foolish thieves than five stunning beauties.
The hospital wasn’t too far from the villa, but it took Jufeng quite a while to arrive, his heart filled with unease. If it weren’t for the urgent need for money, he would never have accepted such a “blessing in disguise” job.
He softly pressed the doorbell twice, expecting to wait a moment. To his surprise, the villa door opened immediately. The person who opened it was none other than Lu Qijia, who had formed quite a bond with Jufeng over the past few days.
“Come in, please.”
Lu Qijia stepped aside to let Jufeng in. However, the scene inside startled him greatly. The other four sisters were sitting upright on the sofa, staring intently at Jufeng. The feeling of being scrutinized was akin to a white rabbit being eyed hungrily by a pack of tigers.
Huh? Why does this scene look so familiar? It resembled something out of a recent police drama where officers interrogate criminals.
Instinctively shivering slightly, Jufeng chuckled awkwardly and scratched his head to mask his embarrassment. He introduced himself, “I’m Jufeng, the bodyguard Sister Lu hired. Um, she should have mentioned me to you all. Yes! Your safety will be in my hands from now on; don’t worry. Hehe.”
After finishing his introduction, the four sisters remained silent, staring fixedly at Jufeng. This made him feel an involuntary chill run down his spine as cold sweat began to trickle down.
Fortunately, at that moment, Lu Qijia turned around and saw the scene, quickly breaking the awkward situation.
"Ah, let me introduce you. You know, we five sisters are a group called Sister Five. 'Five' is the number five, and 'sister' refers to sister, playing on the homophone for 'charming'."
"I am Sister Dai, now you know my name. This is Second Sister, named Liu Hengying. This is Eldest Sister, named Wen Yun. This is Sister Four, named Jiang Xue; we often call her Sister Xue. And this is Mei, Liu Xiao, who is also Second Sister's cousin."
After introducing the other four sisters in one breath, Lu Qijia let out a sigh of relief as Jufeng took in the unique charm of the five beautiful women.
Lu Qijia was naturally dignified, Second Sister was mature and steady, Eldest Sister had a somewhat cool demeanor, Sister Four was much more lively, while Mei appeared quirky and spirited. Jufeng recalled their first encounter when he forgot about the danger and went back to change clothes; it was Mei who had left an impression on him. After some contemplation, he realized that these five women truly encompassed a myriad of types, seemingly representing all the beautiful archetypes in the world.
"Um, where do I stay?"
Jufeng would not be impolite enough to scrutinize them closely; his gaze merely brushed over them before he asked about something he should be concerned about. After all, he didn't want to get too entangled with them; he just wanted to do his job well and earn some money.
"Oh, your room is right here." Lu Qijia pointed delicately and led Jufeng toward his bedroom.
As they watched Jufeng leave, the four sisters began to chatter excitedly as soon as his figure disappeared.
"Wow! He has such a great physique! And he's so capable! Although he's not exactly handsome, he definitely has a strong masculine vibe, especially those deep and clear eyes. Sister Dai picked a good one!"
"Mei, you're being infatuated again. I just don't understand why we need a male bodyguard; it makes life so inconvenient. You all chat; I'm going upstairs."
"Eldest Sister, don't go! Isn't Sister Dai doing this for our sake? Besides, he lives downstairs; it's not inconvenient at all. Also, he's my classmate and a freshman in Mecha Major at Huan City University."
"Oh? What a coincidence; that gives us some assurance. By the way, Sister Four, you and Sister Dai are both from Huan City University. Make sure to find out how this guy's reputation is at school."
"Don't worry, Second Sister, I've got this covered."
After Lu Qijia brought Jufeng into the house, the discussion outside was already heating up. When Lu Qijia emerged, she was greeted by the sight of everyone animatedly sharing their thoughts.
"So, what does everyone think of him at first glance?"
"I think he's really cool."
"I'll reserve my judgment; it's not convenient for me to say."
"I think this guy seems pretty good. A boy studying mecha has his own charm."
"We've all seen his skills, but I can't help but wonder why Sister Dai seems so familiar with him. Could it be...?"
After a brief silence, realization dawned on the others.
"Oh—!" The other four exchanged knowing glances, their eyes filled with teasing ambiguity as they looked at Lu Qijia, who turned red in the face.
"What are you thinking? I just ran into him a couple of times while working as a reporter at school, and it's mainly because of his impressive skills! Alright, alright, everyone go to bed. We have rehearsals tomorrow; make sure to perform well."
Seeing Lu Qijia's flustered demeanor, her four sisters couldn't let her off easily.
"Look at that, Sister Dai is shy!"
"Ah! The captain is on fire; you can't mess with a woman in love..."
" hehe..."
" haha..."
After a round of playful banter, the Five Sisters gradually fell asleep, and the once lively villa became quiet.
Jufeng, hearing the noise outside slowly fade away, finally dared to peek out of his bedroom. With lingering apprehension, he surveyed the situation inside the house before tiptoeing down to the bathroom on the first floor to take a shower.
The five sisters used the bathroom upstairs, leaving the one downstairs for Jufeng. However, when there were many people around, he didn't dare to act recklessly; it was only when the night grew deep and quiet that he would come out.
After a quick wash, Jufeng sat on the sofa in his pajamas, casually picking up a magazine. He flipped through a few pages by the light of the moon streaming through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The house was silent, yet Jufeng found it impossible to sleep. So much had happened recently that he hadn't even had time to reflect on it all.
Last night marked the first time he had taken a life. He felt no regret for his choice; however, what troubled him was that he found himself somewhat enjoying the thrill of bloodshed in the darkness. Once upon a time, while learning from his master, he had engaged in countless fights, but none had involved life and death. Now that he had broken that taboo, he felt no guilt whatsoever.
He knew that the man he killed was not a good person; yet, standing on moral ground himself felt precarious.
At that moment, the Red Gang Leader had already harbored murderous intent, and Romain would never compromise or feign submission. It seemed only natural that when survival was threatened, he had every right to choose life.
Even if it meant building his existence upon another's death, he felt it was unavoidable.
In his master's words, this was called fate.
As Jufeng wrestled with his thoughts, he failed to notice two graceful figures descending from upstairs, quietly approaching him.
"Sister Xue, what is he doing?"
"I don't know either. It seems like he's reading. Come on, let's go take a look."
The two descending from the upper floor were Jiang Xue and Liu Xiao. They had always been restless and shared a room, so when a male guest finally arrived, they hurried down to check the situation. They happened to catch sight of a shadow under the bright moonlight, which piqued their curiosity even more.
As they approached, Jufeng snapped out of his thoughts. Realizing someone was there, he quickly stood up and turned around, causing a magazine to slip from his hands.
When Romain saw that it was the mistress of the villa, he relaxed his guard but still felt a bit awkward.
Jiang Xue was not the oldest among the five, but she had the most alluring figure. Her slim nightgown did little to conceal her curves, and Romain found himself feeling a stir of desire despite his usually tranquil demeanor. He couldn't help but swallow hard.
Jiang Xue walked over to the sofa and picked up the magazine from the floor. She noticed it featured a promotional page for a movie and sweetly exclaimed, "So you like this movie too? It's quite popular and has made a lot at the box office!"
"Uh? Oh!" Romain's face instantly flushed red, but fortunately, the dim light of night concealed it from the other two. "Yeah, it's really good."
"It's so late; why aren't you resting? Do you have some intentions toward us sisters?" Liu Xiao said with a mock-serious expression, catching Romain off guard. However, he quickly realized her true motive and explained, "I'm your bodyguard, so I naturally stay up late to ensure your safety."
Romain's sincere response made Liu Xiao feel a bit embarrassed, but she wasn't one to back down easily. She continued to feign authority.
"Then what about you and Sister Dai? Are you her boyfriend?"
“Ah?” Jufeng was truly startled by this remark and hurriedly explained, “How could that be? We've only met four or five times; it's just a business relationship. Sister Liu is overthinking it.”
“So what if we haven't met often? Haven't you heard of love at first sight? It's such a pity; we've always wanted to marry Sister Dai off so she wouldn't have time to manage us anymore. Sigh!”
After finishing her words, the girl turned and walked upstairs. As she passed by Jufeng, she suddenly reached out her delicate finger and poked his exposed abdominal muscles, walking away while admiring, “Your physique is really great! By the way, next time don’t call me Sister Liu; just call me Mei.”
Jufeng was stunned by Liu Xiao's bold action and took a while to regain his senses. It wasn't until Jiang Xue walked up to him and returned the magazine that he finally came back to reality.
“Actually, everyone is quite satisfied with you, especially since you performed perfectly. Based on a woman's sixth sense, you are a trustworthy friend. Eldest Sister has always been sharp-tongued but soft-hearted; things will improve as you spend more time together. You should get some rest.”
“Oh, by the way, I’m also a freshman at Huan City University majoring in Mecha. We should have a good chat when we have time. Good night.”
Jiang Xue gracefully caught up with Mei, and Jufeng watched their disappearing figures, secretly sighing to himself; interacting with beautiful women, especially five of them, was truly nerve-wracking!
