In the midst of the apocalypse, chaos reigned, and situations changed in an instant, with countless emergencies arising. 0

Perhaps just a second ago, a beautiful woman was smiling at you, and the next moment she could be tackled by a Zombie and torn apart to be devoured alive. 0

Although Chu Father and Mother Chu were currently under the protection of the military, and there was no immediate need to worry about their safety, a deep sense of unease still occupied Chu Donglin's heart. 0

He put his phone back into his pocket and quickly stood up, running towards the supermarket entrance. 0

As Chu Donglin stepped outside, he was greeted by bright sunshine and clear skies. 0

Standing at the street corner, he glanced around to orient himself before sprinting directly toward his destination. Among a group of sluggish Zombies, Chu Donglin felt a surge of superiority as he regained his normal speed while observing the dazed Zombies around him. 0

Before long, he arrived in front of a store selling Mobile Accessories. This sprint also revealed something else to him. 0

He realized that he didn’t feel tired at all; after running for over twenty minutes, he remained alert and showed no signs of fatigue. 0

Instead, he sensed that some warm energy within him had been consumed. 0

Chu Donglin speculated that this energy might be the main driving force behind the Zombies' movements. If he could absorb more energy, perhaps he could evolve further and become even stronger. 0

However, before that, his immediate priority was to charge his phone. 0

He dashed into the store and boldly jumped behind the glass counter, rummaging through the shelves without hesitation. 0

Soon enough, he found what he was looking for among a pile of Earphone Cables and Data Cables. Chu Donglin let out a sigh of relief as he pulled out the Data Cable he needed and headed to a Socket on the side of the store to charge his phone. 0

Just as Chu Donglin crouched down, a dark shadow suddenly burst in from outside. 0

The Bloodthirsty roar and low growl mixed with the sound of rapid movement sent an immediate sense of danger surging through Chu Donglin's mind. 0

Instinctively, he lunged forward to evade the shadow's ambush from behind. 0

However, the glass counter ahead blocked his movement. Crouching down put him in an awkward position to exert force, and in his haste, he couldn’t avoid the shadow’s attack in time. 0

With a dull thud, Chu Donglin's right hand, clutching his phone, was pinned to the wall by a sharp claw. A shadowy figure let out a roar and swung another claw towards Chu Donglin's head. 0

The threat of death loomed large, and the power within Chu Donglin surged forth. 0

In a fit of madness, he raised his uninjured left hand and delivered a powerful punch to the shadow's face, the force nearly shattering its features. 0

At the same time, he sharply turned his head to evade the incoming claw strike. He lifted his right foot and delivered a heavy kick to the creature's abdomen. 0

Bang— 0

The sound echoed as if he had kicked a tough hide, both Chu Donglin and the monster jolted from the impact. 0

The ambushing shadow was sent flying by Chu Donglin's kick, howling as it rolled out of the store. 0

It was only then that Chu Donglin got a clear look at his assailant. 0

She was a gaunt woman in her thirties, with sunken cheeks and hollow eyes that seemed starved for a long time. 0

Yet her eyes were unlike those of any human; they were not even the grayish-white of an ordinary zombie but rather a dark red filled with madness. 0

This monstrous mutated zombie glared at him with bloodthirsty eyes, letting out an angry growl. 0

Her fingernails had become unnaturally sharp, elongated like beastly claws. The very claws that had pierced through Chu Donglin's right hand belonged to her. 0

Looking down at his palm, which had been completely pierced through, along with the ruined phone, tears welled up in Chu Donglin's eyes. 0

"Damned... damned... ahhh!!!" 0

He let out a roar of madness, flinging away the broken phone and lunging at the mutated zombie. 0

After evolving, Chu Donglin's repaired vocal cords could barely produce a few individual syllables. Although he couldn't form complete sentences, it didn't stop him from letting out an angry roar. 0

This evidently evolved Mutated Zombie not only ambushed him but also broke his phone, cutting off his last means of contacting his parents. This terrifying reality nearly drove Chu Donglin mad. 0

In a fit of madness, he charged forward, engaging in a fierce struggle with the mutated Zombie. 0

Unlike him, this Mutated Zombie was more agile, though her strength was considerably weaker than Chu Donglin's. 0

If it weren't for her sharp claws and spiky hands, he could have easily taken her down in a direct confrontation—this was precisely why she chose to ambush him; in a head-on fight, she was almost no match for him. 0

Different from ordinary Zombies, this evolved Mutated Zombie still lacked rationality, but her strength was greater, her reactions sharper, and she possessed a shallow form of intelligence. 0

Her counterattacks were even more terrifying; besides the frenzied bloodthirst in her eyes, she even knew how to exploit openings to launch sneak attacks on Chu Donglin. 0

After a great struggle, he finally killed the Female Zombie. Looking at her crushed skull, Chu Donglin couldn't contain his anger and stomped on it several more times. Then he caught a whiff of an enticing aroma. 0

Compared to this scent, the fresh meat that had once been so tempting to Chu Donglin now seemed dull. 0

Gazing at the corpse of the Female Zombie before him, he realized that the powerful allure came from her brain. 0

Furrowing his brow in thought, Chu Donglin returned to the store and found a metal hammer. He smashed the Female Zombie's head with all his might. 0

Amidst the pile of white, viscous substance, he discovered a red orb about the size of a fingernail. 0

Soft like gummy candy, it emitted an irresistible fragrance. Instinctively, Chu Donglin felt an overwhelming urge to consume this red crystal. After hesitating for a moment, he ultimately decided to follow his instincts and swallowed it. 0

The instant it entered his stomach, Chu Donglin's body trembled as countless warm currents surged up from his gut, spreading throughout his body. 0

The energy contained within this crystal was far greater than what he had absorbed from the raw meat he had eaten before. 0

Chu Donglin suddenly understood why this Female Zombie had ambushed him; her target must have been the crystal inside his head! 0

Perhaps those Ordinary Zombies on the street didn't have such things in their heads, but after evolving once, Chu Donglin definitely had something similar to an Energy Crystal in his mind. 0

After all, during his previous evolution, he felt countless energies surging toward his brain. 0

The discovery that the crystal inside the Zombie's head could actually lead to evolution caught Chu Donglin off guard. 0

This Zombie was different from ordinary ones; its eyes were not only Bloodthirsty but also more aggressive than typical Zombies. Perhaps that was why it stood out, evolving to its current state in less than a week. 0

Moreover, Chu Donglin believed that this Dark Red Mutated Zombie would find it easier to evolve than he did as an Ordinary Zombie with dead gray eyes. 0

After all, these Zombies were unlike Chu Donglin, who knew to go to the supermarket for food; they had a much harder time finding fresh meat to consume. 0

The amount of meat he devoured from that massive cold storage could easily scare everyone. 0

Having consumed so much meat to gain the qualification for evolution, Chu Donglin certainly didn't think that the living flesh the Mutated Zombie had eaten in a week could compare to what filled a giant supermarket's cold storage. 0

There were indeed tiers among Zombies, and they could grow stronger by killing and devouring each other. This realization left a strange expression on Chu Donglin's face. 0

However, at that moment, he couldn't afford to think about anything else. After dealing with the troublesome Mutated Zombie, he hurried back into the store and quickly picked up his phone from the corner. 0

As he expected, the phone was no longer usable. 0

He couldn't fathom how that Female Zombie had mutated; her nails were sharp and tough enough to pierce through both his phone and the wall. 0

Chu Donglin's phone now had a large hole in the middle, with the screen shattered into countless pieces. Through the hole, he could see the colorful internal components of the phone. 0

Seeing this scene made even the usually calm Chu Donglin feel an urge to curse. 0

His body trembled with anger, but he took a deep breath and forced himself to calm down. He began to dismantle the back cover of his phone, hoping to retrieve his SIM card. 0

With the phone broken, he couldn't see his call history or return calls to Chu Father or Mother Chu. But as long as his SIM card was intact, there was still hope. If he found a good phone to insert it into, Chu Donglin could wait for his parents to call him again. 0

However, when Chu Donglin opened the back cover of his phone, he was met with a twisted and shattered SIM card. 0

It was unfortunate that when the Mutated Female Zombie pierced his phone, the location of the SIM card was right in the range of her attack, and the fragile card was sliced to pieces by her sharp nails. 0

"Damn it!" 0

Chu Donglin felt darkness cloud his vision, nearly fainting from anger. 0

He forcefully threw the broken phone away and rushed out of the store, unleashing a flurry of kicks on the corpse of the Mutated Female Zombie. 0

"Damn... you... damn... mother..." 0

His vocal cords had not fully recovered, making it difficult for Chu Donglin to form complete words; he stuttered as each word tumbled out. 0

The feeling of extreme frustration only fueled his already raging fury. 0

After a wild series of kicks, Chu Donglin finally stopped and realized there was no longer a corpse beneath his feet. 0

The body of the Mutated Female Zombie had been trampled into a mushy pile of flesh, mixed with shattered bones, spread out grotesquely in front of the store. 0

"Damn... this... mess..." 0

Cursing under his breath, he withdrew his bloodstained feet and staggered toward a nearby clothing store. 0

Since he had lost the last means of contacting his parents, Chu Donglin could only focus on taking care of himself for now and then consider how to return to his hometown, Wangcheng, to find them. 0

After all, his parents were living in a military Shelter, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, they should be safe. Ordinary Zombies posed no threat against a well-armed and trained military force. 0

In comparison to his parents, however, his own situation was far more dangerous. 0

As a Zombie, he knew that humans would not welcome him. If they discovered his identity, who knew what kind of treatment he would receive? 0

However, even living in this city, he had no idea how many mutated Zombies had passed the first stage of evolution, all eyeing the Energy Crystal in his head. 0

Once they encountered each other, it would undoubtedly be a bloody battle. Chu Donglin certainly didn't believe that in such a large city, there would only be that one Female Zombie among the Mutated Zombies. 0

Being prepared for a fight at any moment while striving to become stronger was what Chu Donglin needed to focus on now. 0

But before that, he felt he needed to change his clothes. 0

Although Chu Donglin wasn't particularly fastidious, his current outfit was filthy beyond belief. It was stained with congealed dark red blood, dried saliva, and grease from eating cured meat—he looked dirtier than a homeless person scavenging for scraps. 0

After all, he was a mentally sound person. Even though he was now a Zombie, Chu Donglin didn't like the idea of going out in such a dirty outfit. 0

He stood on the street for a long time and noticed a clothing store not far away, so he walked over. 0

Since the apocalypse had arrived, he could boldly go and loot... well, he had been thinking about how to do this for a long time. 0

With the end of the world upon him, it seemed like his dream had finally come true. 0
