As he stepped into the clothing store, Chu Donglin glanced through the glass doors and surveyed the rows of women's clothing, shaking his head in frustration. 0

Next store. 0

However, it seemed as if every shop on this street was playing a joke on him; almost all of them were various women's clothing stores. It wasn't until he reached the end of the street that Chu Donglin finally found a men's clothing store. 0

Peering inside through the midday sunlight, Chu Donglin noticed two Zombies lying silently in the dimly lit store. The two Zombies were dressed in employee uniforms, likely having worked there in life, and he couldn't understand why they hadn't wandered off. 0

Pushing open the glass door stained with dark red blood, Chu Donglin stepped inside. 0

The sound of his footsteps and the creaking door slightly startled the two Zombies. They looked up at Chu Donglin for a moment, their expressions blank, before lying back down and ignoring him. 0

Their dazed expressions inexplicably made Chu Donglin want to laugh. 0

Approaching one of the Zombies, Chu Donglin gave it a gentle kick. "Buy... buy... clothes..." 0

The employee Zombie slowly raised its head, its vacant eyes staring blankly at Chu Donglin, seemingly puzzled by why this person was kicking it. The two Zombies stared at each other for a few seconds; seeing that Chu Donglin showed no further reaction, the one in the employee uniform lay back down again. 0

Chu Donglin kicked it again. "Buy... buy... clothes..." 0

The Zombie slowly sat up once more, continuing to gaze blankly at Chu Donglin. There was neither anger nor curiosity in its hollow eyes—only confusion. 0

Shaking his head, Chu Donglin decided to abandon his mischievous antics and turned to search through the store himself. 0

First and foremost, he needed to find a well-fitting outfit; secondly, it had to be understated—nothing flashy that would attract attention—preferably in dark colors like black or gray; finally, it needed to be suitable for physical activity and combat, without unnecessary embellishments that could hinder him during a fight. 0

After rummaging around for a while, making enough noise to disturb the two dazed employee Zombies, Chu Donglin even searched through the back room before finally finding an outfit that suited him. 0

Once he changed into the black sportswear, he felt significantly refreshed. 0

Clenching his fist lightly, he smiled at the Zombie lying on the ground staring at him blankly. "No... money... paid..." 0

Without caring whether the two dimwits could understand his stammering words, Chu Donglin smiled and left. 0

Before departing, Chu Donglin casually took a machete that was over a meter long. 0

This knife seemed to be a collectible of the shop's boss; the metal machete was clearly not meant for fighting. It was not sharpened and its length was insufficient, yet its design was incredibly flashy. If it were to be used in a fight, it would probably serve better as a blunt instrument. 0

However, with Chu Donglin currently unarmed, he figured he could make do with this machete until he found a new weapon. After all, having something to defend himself with was better than facing those monsters empty-handed. 0

The sharp claws of the mutated zombie woman had left a deep impression on him. If he had had a similar weapon at that time, he wouldn't have been left with so many wounds from that zombie's attack. 0

Although those minor injuries healed quickly and didn't leave him with any serious damage, he knew that next time he faced other mutated zombies, who knew if they would be more troublesome than that zombie woman? In such a perilous environment, carrying a weapon would certainly give Chu Donglin some peace of mind. 0

After leaving the clothing store, Chu Donglin proceeded to ransack a nearby shoe store, replacing his old shoes—stained with blood and bits of flesh—with a new pair of sneakers. 0

Striding out of the shoe store with the machete in hand, Chu Donglin walked into a supermarket not far away. 0

The dimly lit supermarket was as chaotic as he had expected; however, compared to the last supermarket he had visited, this one was much tidier. It seemed there weren't many survivors nearby, so the food inside remained largely untouched. 0

As Chu Donglin passed by a shelf filled with chocolate, he frowned and pondered for a moment before walking over. 0

Zombies could gain energy by consuming fresh meat, but could they also fill their stomachs by eating other things? If other foods could provide similar effects, did that mean he wouldn't have to eat fresh meat anymore? 0

Once this thought took root in his mind, it filled Chu Donglin's head completely, making it impossible for him to move on. 0

Feeling both nervous and hopeful, he approached the shelf and tore open a package of chocolate, tossing the dark treat into his mouth. 0

Then… 0

"Ugh..." 0

A wave of nausea surged up his throat, and Chu Donglin couldn't help but vomit. 0

The strange feeling of disgust was akin to a living person biting into a piece of greasy raw meat, the queasiness spreading from his stomach throughout his entire body. 0

Chu Donglin refused to be defeated; unable to eat chocolate, he shifted his focus to other foods. 0

Cookies, instant noodles, chips, milk, candy... he tried everything he could find in the supermarket. Although these foods didn't induce as much nausea as the chocolate had, Chu Donglin still felt quite uncomfortable. 0

Moreover, this discomfort seemed utterly pointless, as the things he forced down his throat were hardly digested at all. 0

It appeared that his stomach, altered by the virus like a zombie's, had lost its ability to process these foods. 0

In the end, with his stomach filled to the brim and unable to digest anything, Chu Donglin had no choice but to dry heave and expel everything he had eaten. 0

"Ugh... so... nauseating... damn..." 0

After the failed experiment, Chu Donglin walked dejectedly toward the supermarket's Fresh Produce Section. 0

He resorted to old tactics and found the door to the freezer, but this freezer was different from the one he had encountered last time. The door was locked tight, and he couldn't open it at all. 0

Disappointed, Chu Donglin could only set his sights on the cured and fresh meats displayed outside the freezer. 0

This time, his desire to eat was not as strong, allowing him to truly savor the experience of consuming these meats. However, he soon frowned. 0

These frozen cured and fresh meats were puzzling; while they could fill his stomach, they tasted like chewing wax—completely devoid of flavor. 0

Though Chu Donglin had never eaten a living person before, he was certain that the fresh blood and flesh of a human would be infinitely better than this frozen pork. 0

After barely filling his stomach, the hunger pangs within him were no longer as intense. 0

However, Chu Donglin realized that this time, the frozen pork he consumed provided him with very little energy. 0

Last time, even in a semi-manic state, Chu Donglin could feel the warm currents surging through his body after eating. 0

But this time, although that warmth still existed, it was so faint that it was almost negligible, a stark contrast to the previous eating experience. 0

First, Chu Donglin ruled out the quality of the meat; fundamentally, all the meat was the same, and there was no issue of good or bad. Therefore, the problem must lie within himself. 0

Recalling the immense energy he absorbed after consuming the brain crystal of a Mutated Zombie and how his desire to eat had been significantly suppressed after evolving, Chu Donglin concluded that his body must have undergone changes after his evolution. 0

Now, if he wanted to evolve again, the energy gained from eating this raw meat was minimal; he would have to rely on hunting other Mutated Zombies. 0

"Really... not... satisfying..." 0

Stumbling to his feet, Chu Donglin shook his head and dragged the machete he had picked up as he walked toward the supermarket exit. 0

While he wasn't particularly afraid of those Mutated Zombies, discovering that he couldn't take shortcuts or cheat left him feeling somewhat disheartened. 0
