Although discovering his ability to control Zombies made Chu Donglin very happy, his first reaction was not to use this power to hunt down other Mutated Zombies. Instead, he followed the path etched in his memory back to the area where he had hidden with the Survivors before he became a Zombie.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth—this was always Chu Donglin's principle.
Those two Thugs had betrayed him, turning him into a Zombie who could only survive by consuming raw flesh. From that moment on, he might never return to the human world and would have to spend his days in solitude among a horde of Zombies.
Chu Donglin felt that if he didn’t go back to settle the score with those two scoundrels, even death would be hard to bear.
Of course, he also intended to repay a debt of gratitude.
During his escape with the Survivors, Chu Donglin had injured his leg and lost the ability to run, which led to him being abandoned by the group. At that time, a kind girl named Shishi had pleaded with her father, begging him to carry the injured burden of Chu Donglin so they could keep up with the main group. It was thanks to her that he had survived.
A life saved is worth more than a mountain; Chu Donglin was neither a fool who repaid kindness with malice nor an ingrate who forgot favors. He was determined to repay the kindness shown by the girl and her father.
“Wind... wind... wheel... turning... hey... hey...”
Chu Donglin swayed slightly as he let out a stuttering chuckle, gazing at the familiar area ahead before quietly making his way around to the back of it.
This was an upscale villa district, where the houses were luxurious two-story buildings and not many people lived there. Therefore, after the Apocalyptic Disaster struck, there weren’t many Zombies wandering about, making the quiet environment very suitable for Survivors.
At that time, Chu Donglin and his group had found a two-story villa to stay in. However, later on, the scent of living humans attracted many Zombies, making the area less safe.
Watching the group of Zombies roaming around inside the district, Chu Donglin curled his lip and silently approached the exterior of the villa where they had once lived.
Hiding in the bushes outside the wall, Chu Donglin noticed that someone was actually keeping watch on the second-floor balcony.
He was a lecherous young man in his twenties, and Chu Donglin recognized him as one of the survivors he had fled with back then.
Although the fellow seemed distracted, clearly not taking this task seriously, Chu Donglin gleaned some information from his watchful behavior—apparently, the two thugs had gained the support of this group of survivors and had become the leaders of the team.
Chu Donglin was not particularly surprised by this outcome.
No matter how cunning those two thugs were, they couldn't be foolish enough to think they could survive in a zombie-infested world with just two guns. They would definitely need to rally other survivors to their side.
By threatening with guns and controlling everyone's food and water supply, they would use both coercion and favor to ensure that no one dared to resist them.
Then, they would consolidate the survivors' strength, pressuring others to work for them while they enjoyed the spoils—this was a scenario that Chu Donglin could easily imagine.
However, this also complicated Chu Donglin's plans for revenge.
After all, he had no grievances with this group of survivors. If he confronted the two thugs directly, these survivors would surely turn against him. He did not intend to kill this group and become a murderer.
Hiding behind some bushes, Chu Donglin thought it best to first gather information about the current situation inside the villa and understand the habits of these fellows.
For instance, when they went out to search for food or when they took bathroom breaks.
Once those two thugs were alone, Chu Donglin believed that with his strength far exceeding that of a normal human, he could easily take them down with a surprise attack.
Taking advantage of the lecherous young man on the second floor being distracted by a yawn, Chu Donglin swiftly climbed over the villa's wall and quickly found a corner to hide in.
After confirming that no one in the villa could see this corner and that the Lecherous Young Man on the second floor was also unaware of his presence, Chu Donglin silently made his way to the outside wall of the villa.
At that time, in order to control all the Survivors, those two Thugs had forced everyone into the hall and prohibited any movement.
To prevent this group of Survivors from harboring any ill intentions, the two Thugs would certainly impose strict limitations on their actions, ensuring that the Survivors could not leave their sight. Therefore, everyone must be in the hall now.
However, just as Chu Donglin turned a corner, intending to sneak a peek at the situation of those Survivors behind the hall, he caught a whiff of a foul stench.
It was the smell of decaying flesh, unbearable even for Zombies; perhaps only flies would be fond of such an odor.
Chu Donglin frowned tightly and looked around before following the stench to a patch of grass near the corner of the villa. As he pushed through the dense underbrush, he discovered a corpse surrounded by swarming flies.
The corpse had a deep wound on its shoulder, exposing bone, and countless flies were crawling over it. Inside the wound, white maggots could be seen wriggling.
The fatal injury was a blood hole in its forehead, about the size of a coin, clearly made by a bullet.
When Chu Donglin saw the face of this deceased person, his body stiffened suddenly, followed by a surge of overwhelming anger.
"Uncle... Li!"
The pale-faced corpse before him, with wide-open hollow eyes that would not close even in death, was unmistakably the father of Shishi, the girl who had once saved Chu Donglin!
It was this somewhat indecisive middle-aged man who had carried him away from the pursuit of Zombies, preventing Chu Donglin from being devoured.
That was a debt heavier than mountains—one that Chu Donglin was determined to repay with his life. But he never expected that after just a few days apart, their reunion would be on opposite sides of life and death!
Chu Donglin stumbled back a step, his eyes filled with hatred as he glared at the villa behind him.
He didn't know why Uncle Li had been killed by those two thugs, but he didn't need to know. The dead needed revenge, and this vengeance would be carried out by Chu Donglin, who had already died once!
With a gloomy expression, Chu Donglin searched the bushes but found no sign of the girl Shishi's body, which eased some of his furious anger.
He approached the side of the villa's hall and coldly peered through the gap in the glass door to observe the scene inside.
The first thing that caught his eye was the two thugs.
At that moment, the two scoundrels were sitting on the sofa playing cards, each with a girl beside them dressed only in a bra and panties, laughing and joking boisterously.
As they played cards and chatted, they occasionally reached out to touch the young bodies of the girls next to them. They laughed heartily at the humiliation on the girls' faces, seemingly reveling in a sense of superiority.
In another corner of the hall, several survivors cowered in fear, sitting like tamed dogs, not daring to question the actions of the thugs.
Chu Donglin's gaze continued to shift until he spotted a girl curled up alone in another corner of the hall.
Her vacant eyes stared blankly at everything before her, devoid of focus. The once cheerful face that always wore a smile was now expressionless—Silence had become a puppet without any emotions.
A pang of pain struck Chu Donglin's heart as he looked back at the two thugs. The surging hatred and anger within him burned even more fiercely.
