Wu Rong leaned against the door, his sharp gaze sweeping over Long Yong. "Are you formally declaring war on me?"
Long Yong met Wu Rong's steady gaze. "Although you have more opportunities than I do right now, I won't give up easily. I've known her and liked her for just as long, if not longer than you. I care for her more than you do, and I consider her feelings far more than you ever could. I'm definitely better for her than you are."
Wu Rong suddenly found this amusing and looked at him with a smirk. "If that were truly the case, with all your supposed advantages, she would already be yours. The reason she isn't is simply that she doesn't like you."
Long Yong's expression changed.
Wu Rong was exceedingly arrogant, but that was just who he was; it wasn't an act. He chuckled lightly, as if looking down on others. "You can't win against me. Rao Jie might not choose anything, but if she has to choose, she will definitely choose me."
Wu Rong's nature was truly abrasive; even Long Yong, who usually had a good temper, couldn't help but feel anger rising within him.
Long Yong's temper flared, and he couldn't hold back any longer. "Professor Wu, I know you're very confident in yourself, and you are indeed exceptional. I'm just a few years younger than you; my future achievements may very well surpass yours."
Wu Rong completely dismissed Long Yong as a rival. "Ha, I'll wait and see. But let me remind you, you're already behind because when I was your age, I had already earned my doctorate."
Their conversation was far from pleasant; Wu Rong tended to be more aggressive when talking to someone he considered an enemy, often leaving his opponent speechless with just a few words.
Long Yong was generally good-natured but ultimately stormed off in frustration.
However, both of them were clearly aware of their current situation: they were both striving to win Rao Jie’s affection, and the outcome was still uncertain.
Though Wu Rong appeared confident in front of Long Yong—this was his demeanor when facing a rival—deep down he felt insecure.
Not long after, Wu Xin returned to Romantic Country.
Before leaving, Wu Xin shared what she had learned about Bao Ming and Jiang Chuchu with Rao Jie.
Jiang Chuchu was undergoing treatment, and the Bao family was in turmoil over it. They agreed that if Jiang Chuchu returned to normal, they would marry her off and have her bear children. However, if she couldn’t recover, Jiang Chuchu’s father would take matters into his own hands regarding the pregnancy. Nevertheless, the treatment expenses would be covered by the Bao family.
Rao Jie had lost interest in their affairs and didn't want to get involved anymore; she was genuinely afraid of those two.
After Wu Xin left, only Wu Rong and Rao Jie remained in the house.
Once Rao Jie recovered physically, their interactions returned to normal.
However, compared to before when he was absorbed in mathematical research, Wu Rong now became even more obsessed with discovering what Rao Jie liked.
Whenever Rao Jie mentioned something she enjoyed, he would buy it in abundance to give to her.
This left Rao Jie feeling quite bewildered at times.
She likes to eat cherries, but does she really need to buy them by the dozen? Can she even finish that much? In the end, to avoid waste, she would have to give some away anyway.
I asked her what kind of flowers she liked. She said she liked white roses. Their house was filled with decorations made of white roses. The problem is... she was the one who had to clean it all up!
Rao Jie was driven crazy by Wu Rong's behavior and could only speak up to stop her. "What’s wrong with you lately? Do you want me to do something? Just say it directly, don’t act like this."
"Don't you like it?" Wu Rong pointed at the plush toys covering the sofa, all of them bears. "I didn't even know that the bear toys in your room were a gift from Long Yong!"
