Rao Jie twitched her lips. "I like him, but..."
Wu Rong smiled slightly, causing a chill to run down Rao Jie's spine. "As long as you like him, that's enough. If you receive one from him, you'll be happy. If I give you a hundred, you'll be a hundred times happier. Then my goal will be achieved."
Rao Jie stared in disbelief. "A hundred? Isn't that all of them?"
Wu Rong chuckled. "The rest haven't been delivered yet."
Unable to bear it any longer, Rao Jie exclaimed, "Hurry up and return them! I don't like them anymore; I don't want them!"
Bumping and stumbling along, Wu Rong felt he was doing everything he could to pursue Rao Jie, while she felt as if she were being toyed with, exhausted after just a few days. However, during this time, Wu Rong really hadn't touched her at all. Sometimes, when he found it hard to control himself, he would stop just before making contact.
After a while, Rao Jie became annoyed with the situation herself. The disappointment in her heart gradually accumulated and became more apparent. Whenever she was asked out by Long Yong, she found herself increasingly distracted and anxious on her way home, fearing that Wu Rong would be upset.
Wu Rong would certainly wear a cold expression but never made things difficult for Rao Jie. Each time she made him a small dessert, he would cheer up again; he was quite easy to please.
Before the winter break, the graduate students from the Mathematics Department had recently participated in a competition and achieved good results in a team event. Therefore, the department head, Ye Ming, decided to reward everyone with a trip to the hot springs.
The young teachers and counselors would attend, including Wu Rong, who had contributed the most to the students' progress through his guidance. In terms of work ethic, Wu Rong was indeed admirable.
Ye Ming approached Wu Rong with a cheerful demeanor about this plan.
Wu Rong replied without hesitation, "I'm not going!"
Ye Ming immediately countered, "You're one of the main characters; how can you not go? Cloud Mountain Hot Springs! You might not know this after being away for years, but Cloud Mountain Hot Springs is the best around! Soaking there in winter is simply heavenly."
Rao Jie was preparing tea for them when she overheard and chimed in, "That's right, Professor Wu. Cloud Mountain Hot Springs is famous and said to be good for your health. It's a rare opportunity; you should go!"
Ye Ming quickly added, "See? Rao Jie is recommending it."
Wu Rong shot Rao Jie a sideways glance that hinted at his displeasure over her lack of support for him. "I have important matters to attend to, so I can't go."
"What's going on?" Ye Ming asked, puzzled by Wu Rong's work. He knew there had to be something important.
Wu Rong glanced at Rao Jie, who also looked over, initially confused, but then it seemed like a realization struck her.
"I'm pursuing..." Wu Rong said seriously.
Rao Jie was startled and, without waiting for him to finish, rushed over and covered his mouth with her hand.
Wu Rong shot her a sideways glare.
Her face flushed red as she shot back a warning look.
Ye Ming looked around and suddenly felt a bit out of place. The intimacy between the two was blinding, and he propped his chin up, saying, "I'm still here! Hey, can anyone see me? I may have come at the wrong time, but do you really have to feed me dog food?"
Rao Jie immediately became even more embarrassed and released Wu Rong, stammering, "N-no..."
Just as Ye Ming was about to tease them further, Rao Jie's phone rang, prompting her to answer the call.
Ye Ming turned his attention back to Wu Rong, determined to pursue him. He actually had a great suggestion that he was sure Wu Rong would agree to. After all, for such a large event, if Wu Rong didn't attend, it would be quite embarrassing for him.
