Dragging Jack back was an incredibly challenging task for me. The muscles on my back tightened unavoidably, and I felt the pain of my wounds tearing open once more. But at that moment, curiosity overcame the pain. 0

"Don't be so dramatic. If you had warned me before jumping out, do you think the bullet would have been faster than you?" 0

One of Jack's arms was mangled; it was a gruesome sight, and I worried it might fall off by itself. Of course, I didn't have time to check for fractures, but I wasn't foolish enough to drag him by that arm. I could only pull him back with both hands under his armpits. 0

I bit down on the One-Eyed Beast Flashlight, nervously scanning our surroundings. I noticed Jack's eyes rolled up slightly; surprisingly, they opened wide enough when he did so. At least they weren't just slits. 0

"It feels very dangerous. You know, while we were talking, it was lurking in the shadows watching us. It must have had plenty of opportunities to attack us, but it didn't. It's unbelievable; I think it's eavesdropping on our conversation. Do you understand what I mean?" 0

"What do you mean? It can understand our conversation? Are you out of your mind?" 0

At that moment, I felt that the toxins in Jack's body hadn't just failed to clear out; they had invaded his brain as well. I hoped he wasn't developing paranoia. 0

"No, of course it can't understand our conversation. But I believe its intelligence is quite high; it's judging our behavior patterns and intentions through our tone and body language. That terrifies me. And do you really think it would give you time to shoot? With your skills, it could take you down in an instant." 0

"Damn." I shot back at him without hesitation. 0

I hadn't expected Jack to see me as such a coward. Although his methods seemed fierce enough at the moment, I didn't consider myself a novice either. I had been in this line of work long enough to encounter many things he couldn't even imagine. My multiple escapes from death were not mere coincidences; they were not something a rookie could achieve. 0

I was indignant at Jack's words and roughly threw him down next to the campfire. As I disinfected his wounds, I applied pressure a bit too forcefully, and hearing his howl of agony brought me some sense of balance. 0

The three deep claw marks on his left chest were severe but hadn't hit any vital areas—he was lucky in that regard. However, the injury on his right arm was too gruesome to look at. A chunk of flesh had been gouged out, leaving a deep and long wound that was truly shocking. 0

After cleaning the wound, I attempted to stitch together the flesh around the injury on his arm. It wasn't difficult; there was a piece of muscle missing in the middle, and the flesh on either side sagged inward. 0

After just a couple of stitches, Jack howled like a pig being slaughtered. "I have Morphine in my bag! Why don't you give me a shot? And stuff something into the wound; otherwise, how am I supposed to face people later?" 0

His last remark nearly made me faint with anger. What kind of time was this to be making such requests? Did he think I was a plastic surgeon? However, I intentionally withheld the Morphine from him; his injuries hadn't damaged any bones—he could tough it out with some grit. Unlike Fumi's injuries, which involved broken bones that required Morphine to endure. I'd save the Morphine for when it was truly necessary. 0

"Stop being dramatic; you don't need Morphine for this kind of injury." 0

As I scolded him, I quickly stitched up his wound. I had no professional training, and my surgical skills were certainly lacking, but years of working in the field of archaeology had taught me how to sew. My technique might not have been great, but I was fast. 0

Once I finished treating his wound, I noticed a significant change in Jack's gaze towards me. I felt that if he could move, he would challenge me to a duel. 0

Although his bones weren't broken, his injuries were severe enough. After stitching up the wound, Jack gritted his teeth and broke into a sweat from the pain. I feared he might pass out from the agony, so I pulled out a large joint of marijuana that I had confiscated from A San and lit it for him. 0

First, we needed to ease his pain; we had to leave this place immediately. That monster could find us. It was clear that this location was unsafe. 0

The enhanced marijuana worked wonders for pain relief; Jack's complexion quickly returned to a more human hue, mainly because his mental state improved significantly. I couldn't discern much change in his appearance as a Caucasian; his beard was thick like a monkey's. 0

I packed my bag and put on my half-dry shirt from roasting by the fire. When I turned around, I realized Jack was no longer lying in place. He truly was a troublesome character. 0

I stood up and looked around, only to find him dragging the corpse of the Blood-Eyed Monster back toward us. He could only use one arm to pull it along, and after much effort, he had only managed to drag it a few meters. 0

I shouted angrily, "What are you doing? Throw that thing away! We need to move quickly!" 0

Jack maintained his position while straining to turn his head and replied, "We need to fill our stomachs before we go; otherwise, we'll starve. Besides, I don't have the strength to walk." 0

Jack wasn't Fumi or Buasong; I didn't have much influence over him, especially when he was determined. I dropped my backpack, slung an AK-47 over my shoulder, and ran toward Jack. After what had just happened, I was even more convinced that I couldn't be without my gun. 0

As I ran, I called out, "Don't drag it this way; pull it toward the river first to let it bleed out. I suspect its blood is toxic." 0

He was starving; there was no way I could convince him to abandon the food right in front of him. The only option was to help him finish this meal as quickly as possible. 0

In truth, Jack didn't need to exert too much effort; perhaps it was hunger or maybe his injuries that held him back. Dragging this massive creature toward the Underground River was mostly my doing. Jack seemed to be putting all his strength into pulling one of the monster's hind legs while I held onto its tail and backed toward the Underground River. 0

When the firelight illuminated the area near the Underground River, the light dimmed somewhat, but it didn't hinder our movement; neither of us turned on the One-Eyed Beast Flashlight. 0

"Is this the thing you saw at first?" Jack asked me. 0

"Of course it is; it's exactly like this." 0

"Do you mean, is it the one you saw originally?" 0

I stretched my neck to take a glance at the Blood-Eyed Monster dragged on the ground. "How would I know? It's like if you saw one monkey first and then another similar monkey; would you know if it's the same one from yesterday?" 0

"Yes, I would." 0

I shot him a disdainful glance. I could talk big too, but was there really a need to show off in front of me? 0

I couldn't be bothered with him. I didn't have the energy to argue. Dragging this Monster had already exhausted me. Seeing that I was ignoring him, Jack fell silent as well, and we both seemed focused on dragging the Monster. 0

Yet, suddenly, an unusual feeling stirred within me, an instinct that something was changing. 0

Whenever this feeling or premonition arose, it usually meant something unfortunate was about to happen. Reflexively, I loosened my grip on the prey and reached for my AK-47. 0
