I was stunned by this sudden turn of events. Just moments ago, he had been right beside me, within my reach, and then he vanished in the blink of an eye, faster and more completely than if he had evaporated. 0

Around me was a glowing wall of emerald green, smooth and showing no signs of anyone having stuck to it. 0

My mind raced as I looked around, up and down. My body struggled desperately; I needed to break free from my restraints and find Jack. 0

My efforts paid off as one shoulder slipped away from the Light Barrier, allowing me to shift toward the spot where Jack had just been. At that moment, I saw a bizarre and horrifying scene: Jack was trapped inside the Light Barrier. 0

The emerald green Light Barrier formed a thin membrane in front of Jack, completely enclosing him. He wore an unbelievable smile that sent chills down my spine. As he smiled, the flesh on his face trembled violently, turning purple—clearly on the brink of death from suffocation. Yet he continued to smile. 0

Moreover, Jack's body was visibly sinking deeper into the Light Barrier, as if some unseen hand were pulling him from behind. 0

Without hesitation, I slashed at Jack’s face with my dagger, determined to pull him out even if it meant injuring him. 0

It was like cutting through a sheet of water-soaked paper; Jack's head emerged from a pool of green liquid. He remained unconscious but instinctively gasped for air, his breaths weak yet desperate. 0

The grip of the Green Light Wall on me was weakening, allowing me to make larger movements. I leaned forward and used my dagger to slice through the membrane enveloping Jack. It wasn't thick, and the interior hadn't solidified yet. Once I cut through it completely, a torrent of green liquid cascaded out from the opening. 0

Jack's body resembled someone just pulled from water, green liquid streaming from his hair and clothes. I wiped some of the liquid off him; it was slick but not sticky or viscous. This meant that what held him wasn’t this substance. 0

I grabbed one of his arms close to me and pulled with all my strength. At that moment, I could see clearly: his body was entirely embedded in the surface of the Green Light Wall, as if fused with it. 0

Jack’s body felt more solidly stuck than I anticipated; I couldn’t pull him out—not even that one arm. At this moment, he seemed unable to do anything but breathe. 0

As long as Jack was still breathing, I had to save him, and I believed I could do it. 0

I gripped Jack's arm tightly and pressed the dagger against the surface where his arm met the Light Barrier, slicing downwards. The blade met almost no resistance as it cut through, freeing Jack's arm from the constraints of the Light Barrier. 0

Between his arm and the Light Barrier, I noticed no sticky substance; it felt just as slippery as what I had eaten earlier. What was it that had bound Jack and me here? 0

I didn't have time to ponder this question further; there was no time for deep contemplation. 0

With Jack's arm liberated, his upper body tilted outward and downward under the weight of his head and that arm. A gap formed between his back and the Light Barrier, creating an ideal angle for me to strike. 0

I pressed one side of the dagger against his neck and sliced down along his spine. With a sharp 'slice,' I successfully severed a piece of glowing green material that was fused to his body. Jack's body lurched forward more dramatically. 0

At that moment, I saw something dart back into the severed glowing material. My eyes were clear; I could confirm I saw something, causing my hand holding the dagger to tremble involuntarily. What the hell was that? 0

But I couldn't let that stop me from saving Jack. I chose to ignore it and focused on rescuing him first. 0

As Jack tilted further outward, it became easier for me to strike. I brought down the dagger again and felt a significant resistance, as if I were cutting through a tough sinew while slicing a watermelon. Whatever it was wouldn't stop me from saving him. My dagger proved effective; with a strong downward thrust, I severed whatever was blocking my way. 0

The moment my dagger cut through that thing, Jack's body suddenly lurched forward as if freed from some binding force. His movement caught me off guard, but it also allowed me to see what that thing was. 0

It was a green vine-like object about five centimeters thick, snapping like a broken rope as it quickly retreated into the Light Barrier. 0

My mind briefly blanked before understanding dawned on me: Jack and I weren't just stuck to the Light Barrier; we were genuinely bound by it. I didn't know how this thing managed to do that, but I quickly grasped its intent—it wasn't just trying to dry us out; it aimed to drag us into the Green Light Wall and consume us. 0

For now, my dagger was definitely its nemesis. As long as I remained conscious, it wouldn't succeed. 0

However, I couldn't afford to be complacent. My greatest fear was falling into another illusion. I needed to rescue Jack in the shortest time possible and then get out of here, unsure how long this state of clarity would last. 0

I hacked desperately at the Light Barrier behind Jack, continuously severing green vine-like tendrils that recoiled deeper into the barrier. My body leaned further toward Jack, almost breaking free from the constraints of the Light Barrier. To my surprise, it seemed like the vines binding me were different from those binding Jack; they weren't as resilient. 0

I could feel it as I pulled Jack; without a sharp weapon to cut through these vine-like things, it was absolutely impossible to break free from their grasp using sheer strength. However, this was good news—I could more easily escape the bindings. 0

As I continued to slash away, Jack's body was quickly pulling away from the Light Barrier. His upper body was almost completely free, bending outward in an inverted U shape. I half-lay on his back, one hand pressing down on him while the other desperately hacked with my dagger. My face was nearly pressed against Jack's back. 0

I could feel the green liquid splattering across my face, but I no longer sensed that faint fragrance; instead, I felt a strong smell of blood. 0

Suddenly, just as Jack was about to break free, a black claw covered in green luminescence reached out from deep within the Light Barrier. Before I could react, the claw appeared right before my eyes. 0

The Black Claw was like the scythe of death, silently yet accurately reaching for my throat. 0

I couldn't put up any resistance; even though my body was moving quite a bit, my reaction time was zero. 0

The only thing I could do was curse and stab my dagger toward the direction of that claw. Even if I couldn't kill it, I had no intention of giving my life away easily; at least I wanted to make it suffer a bit. 0
