The sharp dagger pierced through the Light Barrier like it was a slice of cream cake, instantly embedding itself within. My arm also sank into it. I didn’t miss; I immediately felt a tremendous resistance. I thought I hadn’t just struck the owner of that claw but had severely injured it, perhaps even dealt a fatal blow. The Black Claw that was about to latch onto my neck suddenly halted.
I was not Mr. Dongguo, Mr. Nan Guo, or Mr. Bei Guo; I had no mercy or hypocritical kindness towards my enemies. I swiftly withdrew the dagger, ready to strike again. I intended to finish it off while the iron was hot.
As I pulled the dagger out, the Light Barrier in front of me shook as if a large area had been disturbed, like an agitated animal quivering.
Damn it, trying to scare me at a time like this! I figured that even if an Evil Spirit jumped out at me now, it wouldn’t faze me much; I would still stab forward. A person willing to risk their life is fearless.
I pulled the dagger again, and the Light Barrier trembled once more, but the dagger remained stuck. It dawned on me that it had lodged itself in place.
The Military Dagger made of Special Steel was well-crafted; its sharpened edge was keen. I estimated that not only had it penetrated the creature’s body but also embedded itself in its bones or joints, which was why it was stuck inside.
However, this didn’t daunt me; I firmly believed my dagger was harder than its bones. I twisted my right hand holding the dagger clockwise, and immediately, the sound of shattering bone traveled back to me through the blade. This only bolstered my confidence further; I stopped trying to pull it out and instead gripped it tightly, pushing upward with force. I aimed to gut it while it was in pain and unable to attack me.
With a ripping sound, the Green Light Wall before me seemed to open up like a massive vertical mouth, dark inside and not glowing green as its exterior suggested. To make matters worse, this mouth emitted a foul odor—definitely one of the worst smells I had encountered. I felt grateful that I hadn’t been knocked out by the stench; Fatty ’s foul feet had already nearly destroyed my sense of smell, leaving me resistant or numb to unpleasant odors.
Even though I had a certain immunity to foul odors, I still couldn't help but hold my breath; it was overwhelming, suffocating my mind.
I began to regret this reckless action. Which was worse: being suffocated by the stench or being clawed to death? But things had already reached this point, and there was no rewind button to choose from. I could only brace myself and push through.
Before me was darkness, while light flickered on both sides and even behind me. The gaping maw I had opened revealed two sides that resembled enormous, thick lips, pulsating as if alive, causing the light reflecting from elsewhere to appear even more blurred and surreal.
It was too dark; in fact, it was nearly pitch black. I couldn't see what lay ahead or what foul creature emitted such a stench. Of course, I wasn't foolish enough to actually believe this was a mouth, let alone one I had crafted on-site.
One hand moved along the rope at my waist to grasp the One-Eyed Beast Flashlight. The other hand gripped a dagger tightly, ready to fend off any potential attack.
In terms of timing, when I had torn open this section of the Light Barrier, it was akin to slicing open a vertical mouth. My initial intention was to eviscerate the Monster inside. The moment I reacted by holding my breath to grab the One-Eyed Beast Flashlight was merely a split second.
But at that moment, a tremendous force surged toward me from the front. Foul liquid drenched my head and body, while several hard claws pressed against my chest and abdomen. I dared not open my eyes; the dagger in my hand slashed wildly as I jumped repeatedly. I felt utterly nauseated; I had never encountered such a repulsive smell before. The chaotic slashing of the dagger wasn't an act of defense against an attack but rather an attempt to ward off the stench that threatened to drive me insane.
Suddenly, I realized I was standing on the Ground. I was jumping on the Ground. Wiping my face with my hand, I felt a sticky substance smear across it. After vigorously wiping several times to ensure no foul liquid flowed down my face, I cautiously attempted to open my eyes.
As soon as I opened my eyes, I found myself unable to close them again. I was stunned by the sight before me.
I had been desperately jumping on the ground, but I hadn't moved far from the Light Barrier; I was still in the same spot, just not in mid-air anymore. The moment I opened my eyes, I saw a monster lunging at me from the gap in the light barrier, its form partially emerging. Its face was indistinct, almost pressing against mine, and a foul liquid was dripping down. Two long forelimbs formed a circle, seemingly ready to snatch me up.
Whether it was fear or the stench that overwhelmed me, my legs gave way, and I fell onto the ground, staring up at the monster in shock, forgetting to fight back or flee.
The monster and I faced each other; its long forelimbs could easily grab me, yet it seemed to be waiting for me to make a move or perhaps to toy with its prey. I truly couldn't see any chance of escaping those two long limbs.
Our standoff didn't last long. Suddenly, it moved; its head shifted slightly and then—thud—it fell into my lap.
I found myself holding this foul-smelling, putrid head and began to jump—jump—jump. It wasn't until my mind cleared a bit and I grew tired from jumping that I remembered to toss away this sticky, stinking head.
What the hell? No need to scare me like that. Even in death, it wouldn't rest.
The illumination from the Light Barrier was actually quite clear, especially in front of it. However, since I was looking against the light, I initially failed to see clearly due to the thick liquid continuously dripping from this creature's head.
Of course, my mind being overwhelmed was also a crucial factor.
Once I regained my composure, I realized that the creature protruding from the Light Barrier was merely a decaying corpse. From its visible features, it appeared to be a Blood-Eyed Monster. Its flesh had rotted extensively; its enormous eye sockets were empty, and its body hadn't actively emerged but had been pushed out by that foul liquid and got stuck at the opening.
It seems that the claw that first reached out did so because I cut through the membrane that was wrapping it. This enormous Light Barrier is the true Overlord here; although it cannot run off to hunt, anything passing through this place finds it hard to escape its allure.
I couldn't concentrate on the problem here; the stench assaulted my brain, making me feel dizzy. I needed to get out of here.
Jack had already fallen down. It seemed that the liquid enveloping the Crimson Eyes corpse was highly corrosive, allowing us to easily break free from our restraints. Jack lay on his side beneath the Light Barrier, pressed against it.
Seeing this made me anxious again; I couldn't bear to be restrained once more. I didn't have the courage to endure too long in this foul-smelling liquid. I rushed over and pulled Jack; fortunately, I was able to drag him away from the Light Barrier with ease.
Jack remained unconscious, but there was a positive sign—his face showed expression, a complex look as if he were trying to endure something. Perhaps he was overwhelmed by the stench.
