I don't know how to describe Tang Yumo at this moment. It's not just her cold demeanor; there seems to be a divine quality about her, something elusive that either governs her or is governed by her. I seem to have forgotten the perilous situation I am in; more accurately, I feel that a greater danger lurks at the Summit. This White-Dressed Woman fills me with dread.
I cannot tell how much emotion is reflected in my eyes when I lock gazes with Tang Yumo, but at least there is astonishment. In such a short time, I cannot hide my expression.
It feels as if time has stopped at this moment. I can hardly feel any pain or hear any sounds. Of course, I cannot see anything below the mountain either.
Both Fatty and I have lifted our upper bodies, but due to our positions, our perspectives are drastically different. I cannot see what lies below the mountain, and similarly, Fatty cannot see what is at the Summit, nor can he see Tang Yu.
Yet I still have a sense of reality; a sudden, immense pain jolts me back. It feels like a high-speed train crashing into an immovable object. I freeze, feeling a heart-wrenching pain radiating from my lower body.
I tilt my head down in a spasm and see a tree wedged between my legs.
Fatty still holds one of my hands, seemingly using my strength to stop himself. His downward momentum pulls my body taut like a bow. I never imagined my flexibility was this good; somehow, he hasn’t broken my back.
Even in this contorted position, my waist should be in agony, yet I feel nothing; the pain below has overshadowed everything else, including sound and consciousness.
I vaguely hear Fatty say, “Qiangzi, pure man.”
In my heart, I think: I'm no longer a man at all.
Then everything in front of me turned black.
When I opened my eyes, it was still dark and silent. There was no sound at all. I reached down to touch myself and let out a scream.
"Ah!"
A flashlight beam suddenly shone on my face.
Then I heard a concerned female voice say, "Brother Qiang, what's wrong?"
In an instant, three heads crowded in front of me. It was Xiao Ting, A San, and Buasong.
I stared blankly at the three of them, especially at Xiao Ting. Can I tell you that my Egg is missing?
Clearly, I had returned to the Village. Back to the Bamboo House where I was staying. But I wasn't in my original room; instead, I was in the room belonging to Lao People and Xiao Ting, lying on the bed that originally belonged to Jack.
I looked at the three faces crowded in front of me with a dazed expression and asked with a complicated mood, "Where's Fatty?"
"Gangzi is next door; he can't move. His backside is all messed up."
Hearing Xiao Ting's words made my heart tighten. Not because of Fatty, but for myself. I was lying on the bed, but I knew that aside from the severe injury from hitting my lower body against a tree, my backside and back were also a bloody mess. Fatty only had abrasions on his back and buttocks; I had scraped both sides down the slope. Lying here like this, there was no hope for my injuries to heal.
My expression must have looked frightening because Xiao Ting anxiously asked, "Brother Qiang, does it hurt? Where does it hurt?"
I thought it should hurt down there, but right now I had nothing to hurt. If Fatty or Dr. Tang were here, I would definitely ask him to check on me. Where are my eggs? I just realized that I hadn't felt for them earlier.
Out of a sense of responsibility towards Egg, I decided to quickly find a place to check things out, hoping to avoid Xiao Ting. Little did I know that as soon as I moved my legs, the excruciating pain in my lower body returned, instantly clouding my consciousness.
I felt someone lifting my eyelid and looking at me for a moment; the flashlight nearly blinded me. Then everything fell silent.
When I opened my eyes again, everything was white. Xiao Ting was sitting at the foot of my bed with a bowl of congee, patiently feeding me. My back was propped up high, likely to make it easier for her to feed me.
Seeing me awake, Xiao Ting excitedly exclaimed, "Brother Qiang is awake!"
Immediately, two figures appeared before me: Jack and Buasong.
I felt weak and frustrated. My memories were still stuck on the severe pain in my lower body and the blinding flashlight. Of course, I also remembered the tragedy of having no eggs to hurt. I didn't even have the strength to lift my head, perhaps due to my terrible mood.
I lifted my eyelids slightly and weakly asked, "How long have I been unconscious?"
My gaze didn’t focus on anyone’s face; it drifted like I had dilated pupils. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to see their faces clearly; rather, my vision hadn’t recovered yet, and everything in front of me was blurry and double.
"Three hours. But you’re recovering well."
It was Jack's voice. There was no emotion in his tone; it sounded somewhat businesslike or like that of a practicing physician.
I tried to direct my gaze toward Xiao Ting; otherwise, she wouldn’t know who I was talking to.
"I need to discuss something with Jack. Could you step out for a moment?"
I saw Xiao Ting nod. "Alright, I'll go check on Gangzi."
Only after I heard the sound of the door closing did I turn to Jack and say, "The truth, what exactly happened to me?"
I noticed Jack slowly sitting down, his face gradually becoming clearer. Yet, I still couldn't see any expression on his face.
"What truth do you want to know? Why your injuries healed so quickly? I can't explain that."
"Don't give me that nonsense! Where's Dr. Tang? Has he been here? Did he look at my injuries?"
"After you two returned, we didn't let the Hakka People come up. It was Fatty who insisted; he didn't want the Hakka People to know our situation."
"So you treated my injuries then?"
Jack nodded. "Yes."
My face flushed instantly as I pointed at my lower body and shouted with a strained voice, "What about my Egg?! How did you handle it?"
Jack remained expressionless. "That's not my responsibility. Besides, I don't like that tone."
I was on the verge of breaking down. I thought any normal man would find it unbearable to lose an egg, yet Jack's words and his expression seemed to avoid the topic entirely.
Suddenly, the sound of the door opening reached my ears. I slammed my hand down on the bed, not wanting Xiao Ting to see this embarrassing scene, but I couldn't suppress the frustration inside.
"Ask A San. He's in charge of your daily care."
As Jack spoke, A San's face appeared before me.
"Brother Qiang, you're awake! I've been worried sick. I've been taking care of you these past few days; Jack and Lao People can vouch for me. If there's anything you need or want me to do, just let me know."
Seeing A San's eagerness to pledge loyalty, I felt a pang of bitterness compared to Jack's indifferent attitude. Had I already been dismissed so quickly? The problem was that my Egg was gone, and I didn't care about anything else!
Perhaps sensing the pressure in my gaze, Jack cleared his throat and said to A San, "His Egg is having problems. You know what to tell him."
A San's face darted back and forth between Jack and me before he said, "No problem at all. You're very strong."
"How can it be no problem! How would you know?" I glared at Vietnamese and growled.
"Brother Qiang, I'm responsible for your daily needs. I've helped you before, so of course I know."
I was momentarily stunned, my emotions a mix as my hand instinctively moved down. My Egg was back! (To Be Continued...)
