Of course, the tears of the American Guy were not shed for Fatty. He was facing the same direction as the horizontal wind, and the irritation in his eyes was at least more severe than mine.
Hearing Jack's words, it wasn't just Fatty; even I felt an urge to give him a good beating. With Fatty in such a state, Jack was still mocking him, which only served to create more conflict.
However, given the current situation, I couldn't spare any effort. Rowing had already exhausted me, and I had no strength left to argue with this American Guy. Fatty must have been in unbearable pain from his eyes, and his screams drowned out Jack's taunts.
I couldn't teach Jack a lesson or help Fatty; all I could do was shout desperately at Fatty, "Don't you dare fall! If you go down, no one will come to get you!"
Then I yelled at Jack, "What’s going on? Do you know anything?"
"Are you brainless? The things in the water are driven away by these irritating substances. The irritants in the water are even stronger; washing your eyes with river water is just asking for death!"
Jack's words only fueled my anger further.
"Then why didn't you stop him? Even now, you're still enjoying his misfortune!"
"Come on. How was I supposed to know he was this stupid? I don't have time to care about that idiot; I have more important things to focus on—things that might save our lives."
As Jack spoke, his tear-filled eyes remained fixed on the empty space above us. I knew what he was looking for or waiting to see. It had to be the Giant Bat; he was waiting for the Giant Bat to appear. But in my expectations, the arrival of the Giant Bat should bring about an even more dangerous situation, yet Jack's expression showed anticipation.
"What do you mean? Are you waiting for the Giant Bat to save you? And for God's sake, hand me the water bottle."
My conversation with Jack had to come to an end. Fatty's roar had turned into a howl; it seemed the river had caused serious damage to his eyes. He was not one to be dramatic, and if he was in this much pain, it must have been unbearable.
I took the water bottle Jack handed me and patted Tang Yumo on the shoulder. "Take a break, I'll handle this soon."
Tang Yumo was truly exhausted. As soon as I finished speaking, she let go of the paddle and leaned over the side of the boat, gasping for breath. Her hair, damp with sweat and tears, clung to her face, completely ruining her lady-like image, but she didn’t seem to care.
I leaned my upper body behind Tang Yumo and pulled Fatty's nearly uncontrollable upper body back into the cabin.
I had underestimated Fatty's role in maintaining balance. Even after dragging him into the cabin, he still sat on the side facing the wind, but compared to him leaning out, this provided much more stability. The boat tilted sharply.
Fortunately, Jack instinctively leaned out toward the windward side. He compensated for Fatty's weight, preventing the boat from capsizing. However, the hull still tilted dramatically; it was nowhere near as stable as Fatty could make it.
"Move faster! I can't hold on much longer, and my weight isn't enough; I won't be able to keep this up for long."
Jack's movements were awkward. Even as he strained his body outward, he couldn't stabilize the boat; instead, he was lifted high up.
Although Fatty was in too much pain to open his eyes, his mind was clear. When I pulled him into the cabin and felt the boat tilt noticeably, he didn't fall to the other side but instead gripped tightly onto the side of the boat. This action was crucial; otherwise, his weight would have caused the boat to capsize instantly.
I also leaned toward the other side; any slight imbalance could tip the boat over. But I was next to Tang Yumo, and my movement almost positioned me on top of her.
I heard Tang Yumo's breathing become rougher. I couldn't see her face or expression; perhaps it was better that way—seeing would only make things more awkward and might provoke her anger. I thought she probably hadn't experienced anything like this before. Fortunately, she didn't resist, but I wasn't sure how long she would endure it. I needed to deal with Fatty quickly.
I had to use one hand to grip the side of the boat; otherwise, my weight would shift to the other side. So I bit down on the cap of the water bottle and twisted it open. Fatty's upper body pressed against the side of the boat while his head strained outward in an attempt to shift his weight toward that side. As a result, his head involuntarily pushed downward with force.
I lifted the water bottle with the cap twisted off and shouted loudly into his ear, "Lift your pig head and face up."
Fatty's growl in his throat paused for a moment, replaced by a different exclamation. "Damn."
Fatty was sprawled over the side of the boat, his position making it impossible for him to turn his neck or face upward. After muttering a string of curses, he twisted his hefty body like a pretzel. It was quite a feat that he managed to tilt his face toward the sky despite being unable to see his surroundings.
The clear water from the bottle splashed onto Fatty's eyes, and when I heard him let out a pleased sound, a weight lifted off my heart. It seemed that the clean water could alleviate and even wash away the irritants affecting his eyes. If something happened to Fatty here, I wouldn't be able to forgive myself, even if it was just injuring his eyes.
Fatty finally opened his eyes, the whites bloodshot. It appeared that the irritants had caused some damage. But fortunately, he still had his vision, and he quickly proved it to me.
"Shit, what did you do to Tang Family Girl?"
Damn it, if I hadn't done this, you'd still be howling like a banshee. I was fuming inside; this guy was nothing but trouble. Just when things were calming down, he couldn't stay still.
I felt Tang Yumo's body trembling beneath me; she seemed on the verge of exploding at any moment. There was a Straight Blade beside her, and I worried she might slice something off or lose control and stab Fatty.
"Is your eye better now? Can you see?" I interrupted Fatty's wild imagination angrily. "Bring the boat over; it's not time to relax yet."
Fatty chuckled mischievously and flashed that annoying expression again.
"Alright, watch me."
Fatty lifted his big butt off the side of the boat and leaned out. The boat tilted sharply to one side with a sudden lurch. The weight was astonishing; it almost tipped over completely.
Jack wasn’t prepared for it and nearly fell off balance, grabbing onto the side of the boat just in time to steady himself.
"Dammit."
Jack, who had fallen back in the cabin, let out a sigh.
I rolled over and retreated to the other side of the boat. In this short time, Tang Yumo had learned a new word from under me.
"Dammit."
Tang Yumo spat like a tough woman.
"Where's my Flashlight?" Fatty leaned over the edge of the boat and shouted.
"No need to look for the Flashlight," I said, picking up a torch and holding it high. "This will work just fine. If you want to see better, here."
I extended the torch towards Fatty, who was leaning over the side of the boat.
