"Get ready for a rapid descent; it's best to find a way to secure yourself to the boat. We're about to play a thrilling game," I shouted as I raised the Muzzle of the Six-Barrel Gatling Gun upward.
"What are you doing?" A San asked with a worried expression.
Liu Squad Leader seemed to understand my intentions. "There are safety ropes by the side of the boat; buckle them around your waist, hurry up!"
Before I could position the Muzzle properly, I felt someone tying a rope around my waist. Without turning my head, I shouted, "Who has such keen eyes?"
"It's me. Who else would be thinking about you?"
Hearing Liu Squad Leader's voice, I retorted, "Come on, no need for you to be so attentive. If I had known it was you, I would have preferred not to use the safety rope."
"Well... in that case."
I immediately felt Liu Squad Leader loosen the rope.
"Damn."
He really did loosen it. I kicked back in frustration like a donkey kicking its hind legs. Fortunately, he was just trying to scare me, but it still made me break into a cold sweat.
With the Muzzle positioned at the opening, I pulled the trigger. The Muzzle of the Six-Barrel Gatling Gun unleashed a fiery tongue of flame, and the scorching bullets splashed into the cold water like pouring hot oil into it, instantly causing the Tornado Column in line with the trajectory to explode.
The density of the Swarm Army twisted into a single rope was terrifying. When I saw this Tornado-like Swarm, I had anticipated it and mentally prepared myself.
Boom!
The upper part of the Tornado Column was shattered, but the Swarm below continued to charge upward fearlessly, relentlessly rushing into my Bullet Rain, creating an even more spectacular and terrifying scene.
The Tornado Column surged into my Bullet Rain. Then it exploded within my Bullet Rain, scattering into a massive Insect Cloud high above us, dark and thickening like a Lead Cloud that could fall at any moment.
My target was the cave entrance and the warriors on guard there. Once we entered the cave, we lost contact with the Ground. I couldn't believe that the Ground could receive our signals while we were unable to get any from them. It should be a two-way street; we were both cut off from each other.
In that case, everything happening underground would remain unknown to the Ground, including the Swarm Army that was surging toward it.
If this swarm of insects burst out of the cave, the consequences would be dire. Unprepared Engineers, Guards, and the second wave of Scientist Team Members would be instantly turned into dried corpses.
Then disaster would strike the nearest military camp and even Roborov Town. If they could survive on the Ground, they would thrive even better than underground, bringing calamity to a wider area.
This was unacceptable to me. I needed to alert the Ground.
Currently, without being able to transmit sound to the Ground, I could only try to throw stones up to attract their attention. Or bullets.
At this distance, only the Six-Barrel Gatling Gun could launch bullets toward the Ground.
As I continued to fire at the insect tornado with the bullets from the Six-Barrel Gatling Gun, I kept observing the thickness and movement of the Insect Cloud above us like a Lead Cloud. If my actions angered them and they shifted their attack focus onto us, I would have no choice but to follow Fatty ’s lead and destroy the Drogue Chute. After that… I would just have to leave it to fate.
Perhaps because of how thick the Insect Cloud was, I soon lost sight of the cave entrance above me. The Muzzle could only shoot in a general direction.
Suddenly, I felt someone patting me on the back. I turned around and saw Cao Mingzhe leaning over to tap me. “Do you have a plan for what’s next? If you do, you can proceed.”
“Of course I do. But first, I need to alert the Ground.”
“They’ve already received it. Didn’t you see them sealing off the entrance?”
Under the light of the distant floodlights, there were only insects—thick swarms of them. No matter how hard I squinted, I couldn’t see any light coming from the entrance.
“Are you sure? Could it be that the entrance is blocked by insects?”
"No, the bugs have changed their target. They are coming down on us, and you don't have much time to prepare the next plan."
Indeed. The Insect Cloud, like a Lead Cloud, was pressing down low. Although they weren't forming a united front like before, the overall pressure of the Insect Cloud was still terrifying.
In the distance, the insect tornado that had been soaring upward had collapsed. But they quickly found a new target.
Yes, we were the new target for all the bugs. They were surging toward our Landing Craft.
"Damn it," I cursed.
I hadn't expected Ground to seal off the entrance. I had reminded Ground to prepare for exterminating the bugs, not to block the entrance. Ground had plenty of Flame Throwers and was fully capable of wiping out these bugs at the entrance.
What they did was certainly the safest option for Ground personnel, but it left us in a desperate situation.
I grimaced as I continued to raise the Muzzle until it was pointed vertically at the Drogue Chute above.
"I have no better way than to blast the Drogue Chute. If anyone has another way to escape, hurry up! If not, I'm going to accelerate our Landing Craft!"
After shouting this, I kept my eyes fixed on the approaching Swarm from the side and above.
I waited for a few seconds. Aside from the whooshing sound of flames from the Flame Throwers, I heard no response.
There was no time to wait. I could already see individuals within the Lead Cloud-like Insect Cloud. If that impenetrable Insect Cloud pressed down on us, we would have no choice but to ignite this Landing Craft to avoid being drained of life by them. But what difference would that make?
"Rat-tat-tat," I pulled the trigger of the Six-Barrel Gatling Gun.
The bullets from the Six-Barrel Gatling Gun had a noticeable effect on the insect tornado, but I hadn't expected it to have an even greater impact on the Drogue Chute. The moment my finger squeezed the trigger and I heard the gunfire, the entire Landing Craft plummeted straight down like a stalling jet.
I nearly got thrown out; if it weren't for Liu Squad Leader securing me with a safety harness, I think I would have had a close encounter with the Swarm.
The Drogue Chute was riddled with huge holes, as if every bullet had carved out a large opening in it. Wasn't it made of fire-resistant material? This was a disaster!
We were falling rapidly, definitely faster than the bugs. I could clearly see the Lead Cloud-like Swarm being left behind us. But at this speed, we wouldn't survive the landing either.
The Landing Craft was obviously tilting; the Drogue Chute not only failed to slow us down but also significantly weakened its ability to keep the Landing Craft balanced. The craft leaned to one side.
Fortunately, everyone had secured themselves to the Landing Craft. Despite the chaos, no one was thrown out.
"Maintain balance! Deploy the airbag!"
I had already lost hope and felt disoriented, but hearing Liu Squad Leader's shout jolted me back to attention.
"There’s an airbag?"
"You didn’t know? And yet you shot holes in the Drogue Chute! Are you trying to get us all killed?" Liu Squad Leader finally found an opportunity to attack me. If it weren't for the dire situation, he would probably have berated me all the way down.
