"Gather all the Molotov cocktails from your backpacks!" I shouted to the warriors.
Normally, my words would hold little sway over them; in fact, I suspected they had been ordered to monitor and guard against me before descending.
However, with the death of the Expedition Team leader and the highest military commander severely injured and unable to act or lead, they were somewhat leaderless. Moreover, their highest commander, Liu Squad Leader, had influenced their attitude towards me. After a moment of hesitation, a few Molotov cocktails were piled in front of me.
It was too few. It would suffice to hold out until Liu Squad Leader's surgery was completed, but there wouldn't be enough time for another warrior's procedure.
I pushed the Molotov cocktails towards one of the warriors. "Light one and throw it if any mosquitoes come in. Hold on until Liu Squad Leader's surgery is done."
I walked over to Jack, who was intently disinfecting Liu Squad Leader. The burning material on Liu Squad Leader's back had been completely cleared away, leaving several deep blood holes.
"Hurry up; we still need to run."
Jack didn't respond, not even lifting his eyelids. His serious expression showed he was focused on his task, much like a professional doctor.
I approached Xiao Ting and pulled out a few Glow Sticks and cold flames from my backpack, handing them to her.
"No need," Xiao Ting shook her head. "I have some."
I realized that Fatty would certainly have prepared these for his girl.
"That's even better." I stuffed the items back into my backpack. Pointing towards the dark depths of the cave, I said, "You and Sister Tang head inside. If you encounter Branch, make a mark; we'll catch up with you."
I noticed Xiao Ting shudder slightly, her eyes darting quickly to where I pointed. "Alright."
Xiao Ting's response was reluctant; I knew what she was worried about and afraid of. I felt the same way—we both feared the cave itself.
I thought everyone must be afraid of this cave. Yet each person was deliberately hiding and suppressing that fear. Even Jack, focused on performing surgery on Liu Squad Leader, likely aimed to distract himself from his own fears.
This was not just a cave; it seemed like an excavation carved into towering rock walls. But once inside—especially after regaining my vision—I discovered that its walls, including the ground beneath us, were a pale gray metallic color.
The cross-section of the cave was not fully arched; the ceiling had a slight curve where it met the cave walls, forming an uneven arc. The walls were smooth and vertical, just like the ground.
Light streaming in from the entrance illuminated quite a distance inside; I couldn't see any bends or branches within the cave. Moreover, I believed this cave must be deep and extensive.
Yes, this was an artificially constructed Metal Passage, and I suspected it was made of a very bright and hard metal. Its surface bore signs of oxidation, losing its luster; its color appeared darker than oxidized aluminum.
"Keep running, and don't look back," I reminded Xiao Ting once more.
"Is it just the two of us? We need to protect each other; let's have A-Yong come with us," Tang Yumo suddenly suggested.
I didn't look at her. I was mainly worried about misunderstandings; I didn't want her to misinterpret my intentions. I was letting them run to protect Xiao Ting, not her. She was just an accessory; with two girls, I couldn't let just one run without inciting public outrage.
"No, we have too many seriously injured. The lightly wounded are one of our main fighting forces. We don't have anyone extra to provide protection for you two. You need to protect yourselves."
Xiao Ting glanced at the severely injured warrior sitting on the ground. "Then..."
Before she could finish, I decisively interrupted her. "Don't make any requests; any request is unreasonable."
I stared sternly at Xiao Ting, clearly conveying three words with my gaze: Don't!
I understood Xiao Ting's intentions; her gentle heart couldn't bear to see the severely injured warrior waiting here to die.
But she was overestimating her abilities. She and Tang Yumo might be able to care for and help this warrior for a short time, but in a long-distance escape, their stamina and capabilities would not help the severely injured. It would only endanger themselves and the warrior.
Of course, there was a selfish motive behind my insistence that Xiao Ting run first. Fatty had entrusted her to me because he believed in me, knowing that I would absolutely protect Xiao Ting. Even if it meant my own death, I couldn't let Xiao Ting suffer even a scratch!
Despite my stern gaze on Xiao Ting, another pair of eyes made me feel uncomfortable and guilty. Tang Yumo stood beside Xiao Ting; while Xiao Ting held her tongue under my intense stare, Tang Yumo's complex gaze remained fixed on me, waiting for my response.
That gaze felt like a needle; I didn't know what kind of sparks would fly if I met it head-on, but avoiding it would surely leave me full of holes. It was unbearable.
I turned my face toward Tang Yumo and noticed a faint blush on her cheeks. It looked as if she had drunk a bottle of strong liquor—her face was flushed, and her eyes were slightly dazed.
Such an alluring expression made my heart flutter uncontrollably. Fortunately, I maintained my composure and remained wary of this Hakka girl, quickly returning to normalcy. I casually remarked, "You should take care of yourself too."
"Is... Ad okay?" Tang Yumo asked with a flushed face.
I momentarily didn't grasp who she was referring to. "Who is Ad?"
"The Hakka person who was with Fatty."
"Oh, he's fine. Still alive."
I couldn't recall all the names of these Hakka people; the ones I could remember were A-Yong and Tang Yumo, mainly because I had little interaction with them. During our time in the Underground Cavern with the Hakka people, we were almost adversaries; even when cooperating, we were wary of each other. I hadn't bothered to learn their names at all.
They followed Cao Mingzhe into the Expedition Team. I had only seen them once when I returned to the shop, which made Ouyang Jian tense and nearly ready to clash with the Hakka People. There was no way I could ask for their names in that situation; it would have been strange not to let the Hakka People misunderstand it as a challenge.
Of course, I knew that the Hakka Person following Fatty was still alive, and I also knew that Fatty was alive. The moment my vision returned, I exchanged glances with A San, who clearly indicated that Fatty and the others were still alive.
I thought Xiao Ting must have had a similar exchange with A San; they might have even communicated more directly with words. Otherwise, Xiao Ting wouldn't have been so calm.
Having someone who could hear nearby, like Fatty, was the right decision for now. At least it allowed us to understand the basic situation of the other group and know they hadn't been completely wiped out. A San could hear information from the other group.
After receiving my response, Xiao Ting and Tang Yumo quickly turned and ran deeper into the cave.
We were all wearing hard-soled military boots, and the sound of their footsteps on the metal ground was quite loud and dull. The noise wasn't overwhelming; it seemed that this Metal Passage was made of very thick material.
Once their footsteps faded away, I turned to A San and said, "Alright, tell me about Fatty's situation. How many people are still alive in that group?"
