In order to eliminate as many Giant Mosquitoes as possible, I decided to take a rather risky approach by throwing incendiary grenades inside their swarm. 0

While this would keep us, the few who were lagging behind, busy for a while, the actual danger was not too high. It would, however, eliminate more Mosquitoes. I hoped for the moment when all the mosquitoes would be wiped out completely. 0

I wasn't confident about making it through the Metal Passage alive. There were too many injured, and I had no intention of abandoning them. However, the severely wounded definitely wouldn't make it past the Giant Mosquitoes. 0

Moreover, the other end of the passage would surely not be any calmer; that was almost a given. There was no place here to catch a breath. 0

So even if we managed to escape this Metal Passage, if we were ambushed from both sides, we could easily be wiped out in an instant. The right choice for survival was to hope to kill all the Giant Mosquitoes in this passage. 0

"Zhang!" I heard Jack calling me from up ahead. 0

Reluctantly, I walked over. It wasn't that I didn't want to see him; I was just worried he might want to leave me a last message. That was what I dreaded most. I noticed everyone seemed to want to leave their last words with me, which added a lot of pressure on my mind. 0

"What is it? If it's about last words, let's skip that; I don't even know who to leave mine for." 0

"Is that how little confidence you have? I don't think we're going to die in this passage." 0

I looked at Jack in surprise. "American Guy, where do you get your confidence from? You're not back there; you don't know what's happening behind us. If you took a look back there, you wouldn't be so optimistic. The Giant Mosquitoes are swarming thick enough to drown you." 0

"Don't you notice how clean this passage is? This isn't the territory of the Giant Mosquitoes; they might have stumbled into someone else's domain just like us. The smell here is very pungent and not what you'd expect from Mosquitoes; it must be the scent left by some large creature." 0

I rolled my eyes, realizing that American Guy had a point. The pungent odor was still strong here. It truly resembled the smell of excrement or secretion from some large creature—sour and acrid. 0

I frowned. "That's not exactly good news either. My biggest fear is being attacked from both sides. If a big creature suddenly appears in front of us, where the hell are we supposed to run? Do you think the Swarm of Mosquitoes behind us will just vanish? They aren't afraid of fire; they recklessly dive into flames. Would they fear a fully healthy monster? They'd probably rush at us and drain us dry." 0

Jack shrugged. "Who knows? Anyway, I don't think the Giant Mosquito will chase us all the way to the end of the Metal Passage. I believe they'll retreat at some point or during some time. Let's hold on a little longer." 0

"Thanks, did you call me over just to cheer me up? Fine, I'll accept it. I'll definitely stick it out until the last moment. You can run ahead without worry." 0

"Get me a few specimens; I need them." Jack handed me a metal jar. 0

It was then that I noticed Jack was holding a Magdeburg Hemispherical Specimen Jar. 0

I had seen this before in the Hakka People's Underground Cavern. We had been forced to enter the Hakka People's Underground Cavern a second time because an American guy had thrown a Magdeburg hemispherical jar containing Ground Specimens into it. 0

Looking at the Magdeburg jar in Jack's hand made my scalp tingle involuntarily; it felt like tempting fate. 0

"Is it really necessary? Do you honestly think this jar will make it back to the Ground?" 0

Of course, it wasn't just the jar; it was also the person carrying it. I couldn't understand why, when our own lives were uncertain, he was so fixated on collecting specimens. Was this dedication or simply a lack of awareness? 0

Jack sighed. "I want to do something. If we really make it back to the Ground and I haven't done anything, I'll definitely regret it." 0

"Alright." I looked deeply at Jack. "To bring it back, you damn well better stay alive!" 0

Jack nodded. "I will. You too." 0

I didn't know if this was self-deception or self-encouragement, but it gave me a glimmer of hope for survival. 0

Taking the jar, I turned and ran back. At that moment, the buzzing sound of the Swarm of Mosquitoes grew clearer as they approached. 0

We successfully repelled the Swarm of Mosquitoes once again. 0

As promised, I caught a few Giant Mosquitoes for Jack to use as specimens. 0

We had successfully driven back the Swarm of Mosquitoes four times in a row. 0

But I only had one incendiary grenade left, and the Metal Passage seemed to stretch on endlessly. 0

The few of us who were holding the rear could take a moment to eat and drink water during the intervals between repelling the Swarm of Mosquitoes, even finding time to relieve ourselves. However, the injured in front could only keep running, with not a second to spare for rest. 0

It was time to switch out; we needed new people to carry the stretcher and bear the wounded. The last incendiary grenade was handed to Jack and a few other warriors, allowing them some time to rest and regain a bit of energy and water. Then we could only run for our lives. 0

I didn’t wait for the White Phosphorus Residue to extinguish; I turned and ran forward while the flames still blazed, intending to relieve Jack and a few warriors so they could take on one last defensive mission. 0

We quickly shook off the flames behind us and the Giant Mosquitoes that followed. Soon, we spotted the Flashlight ahead. Their pace had slowed significantly; their stamina had dropped too much, allowing even Liu Squad Leader, who had an injured leg, to keep up effortlessly with Jack and the stretcher team. 0

I could sense Jack and the stretcher team’s helplessness; they were utterly exhausted. To catch their breath, they were willing to give up many things. Right now, they were sacrificing speed. 0

To give those in front more time to rest, I chased after Jack and the stretcher team at a fast pace. But someone caught up with me even faster, calling out in panic, “Brother Qiang, don’t run! There’s something ahead!” 0

Running beside me was A San. His speed was astonishing; for the first time, I witnessed someone generating centrifugal force while sprinting down this straight passage. It was more intuitive and terrifying than experiencing it myself. It was bizarre—leaning into his run yet moving like the wind. 0

A San was also horrified by his own state; his legs gave way, and he fell to the ground. His speed hadn’t reached a point where centrifugal force would throw him off balance; he didn’t crash against the wall of the Metal Passage but lost control and tumbled onto the Ground, rolling several times before coming to a stop against the corner. 0

“There’s something ahead!” 0

He got up, and the first thing he said was not about the fear and confusion from the centrifugal force of the straight path. This made me feel a surge of terror. 0

A San was not a brave person; if he could ignore the bizarre scene before us, it must mean something even more frightening was happening. 0

"What is it?" I asked him urgently as I turned around. 0

"I don't know, but it sounds like something huge is running. Brother Qiang, we're done for; there's nowhere to run." 0

My hair stood on end as I grabbed his collar, my voice trembling with fear and dread. "Are you sure?" 0

"Do you think I would joke about this? Do you think I want to die?" A San cried out, his voice already tinged with despair. 0

My mind buzzed, and my vision suddenly went dark. 0
