"Yes." My expression darkened as I saw the name Tang Yumo.
I could understand this; there were only four Awakened among the Hakka People, and they all hoped to return to the place where their ancestors once lived, Dequantize, to possess true and permanent superpowers. Unexpectedly, one of them had already died. It was no wonder she couldn't be happy.
Tang Yumo added, "However, I don't believe it's a case of disappearance. Although I haven't seen his body, the external environment is too perilous for survival. He is dead, that is beyond doubt."
I made a gesture of condolence towards Tang Yumo. Oh, it was basically just a moment of silence and acknowledgment.
Then I turned to Xiao Guolin. "This isn't just my opinion; you see, we all understand the situation back then. To be honest, if there were even a slight chance, I wouldn't abandon Cao Mingzhe. We are comrades who have fought together through thick and thin."
"Tell me about what happened at that time," Xiao Guolin insisted.
"Alright." I nodded helplessly.
I didn't just recount the fall; instead, I described the entire process of forming the team, the personnel configuration of the Expedition Team, and even my experience with Xiao Ting in the Underground Cavern of the Hakka People. Of course, I didn't forget to inform him about Captain Zhou's death. They were as close as father and son, and I felt he should know.
However, I didn't mention that piece of iron or the main purpose of Cao Mingzhe's descent. I hadn't figured those things out myself, and both Song Guilong and Captain Zhou had coincidentally concealed certain crucial information from Xiao Guolin. Was it a coincidence? I didn't entirely think so.
"Was he an Awakened? What ability did he awaken?" Xiao Guolin suddenly asked after hearing my story.
"Who?" I was still immersed in my own narrative and didn't immediately grasp who Xiao Guolin meant by 'he.'
"The missing Hakka person. He was an Awakened; what ability did he awaken?"
I shook my head and looked at Tang Yumo. "Sister Tang, I'm also very curious. What ability did that missing Hakka person awaken?"
I actually knew that the Hakka People had the ability to see; he revealed it himself when he was on the Landing Craft. I mainly wanted to verify this guess. Also, I felt it was more appropriate for Tang Yumo to come out regarding this matter.
"He is a Seer," Tang Yumo shot me a puzzled glance.
Xiao Guolin turned his head and asked, "What does that mean? Can you explain?"
I was standing with my back to the metal door, facing Tang Yumo. Xiao Guolin was directly in front of the metal door. He didn't twist his neck much to look back at me. Our faces were both directed at Tang Yumo, so he couldn't see my expression.
I rolled my eyes and turned my face toward Xiao Guolin. "Awakened Ones, you know about them, right?"
"I know, but only that much."
I turned my face back to Tang Yumo. "Please explain."
I wasn't acting as a mere echo; I was telling Tang Yumo what information could be shared. I didn't want her to say anything inappropriate.
Tang Yumo looked at me with confusion, then glanced at Xiao Guolin. "I thought you knew."
Yes, I thought so too. I also believed Xiao Guolin should know.
But the reality was that he knew very little. He didn’t have any information about the Hakka People or the abilities of Awakened Ones. Compared to Cao Mingzhe, I knew far more than he did.
This situation was abnormal!
"The ability to see... is somewhat similar to the ability to hear," Tang Yumo said, then realized it was a pointless statement; Xiao Guolin was even less likely to know what hearing meant.
Indeed, Xiao Guolin's expression twisted into a strange and terrifying frown.
"Well... you see, a Seer can perceive things that we cannot, such as what lies beyond a wall. Even when their line of sight is obstructed, they can see what is happening on the other side. This is the most basic ability. A powerful Seer can see things from great distances. If Anzi were still alive..."
"Who is Anzi?" I had to interrupt Tang Yumo.
"My cousin, named Tang An. He has the ability to see. In other words... he is the one who went missing."
No wonder Tang Yumo's mood suddenly dropped; it turned out the Seer was closely related to her by blood.
"If he were alive, he could see me and know our situation."
"He can only see you?" Xiao Guolin immediately asked.
"No, as long as he wants to look, he can see anyone. However, he needs to know who he wants to look at. Using his ability aimlessly results in unclear and chaotic images. It's like a low-resolution picture—disjointed and incomplete."
"So, he can see us?"
"If he is alive, yes."
"No, he can't see." I contradicted Tang Yumo's statement. "At least there shouldn't be a clear image."
"San Er. Come here." I called out to A San.
Then I turned to Tang Yumo: "If the Listener cannot hear information from the other side, then the Seer shouldn't be able to see either, right?"
Tang Yumo nodded thoughtfully. "Yes."
A San ran over, stopping a couple of steps away, his expression unfriendly as he looked at Tang Yumo and Xiao Guolin.
"Brother Qiang, what's up?"
I knew he held a grudge against Tang Yumo for those two hits she gave him, though I wasn't sure if it had incapacitated him in any way. However, from the looks of it, his mind was still intact; he knew who had harmed him and who he could trust.
Yet, the hostility in his gaze toward Xiao Guolin was puzzling. What was that about? Xiao Guolin hadn't provoked him, and besides, he had seen Xiao Guolin's formidable combat skills. Going against him could lead to a swift defeat.
"Can you hear anything from the other group? I want to know how Fatty is doing." I quickly spoke up to redirect A San's attention.
A San shook his head.
I frowned and thought for a moment before asking him, "Is there any way to contact Cao Mingzhe? Try listening for him."
A San shook his head again.
"Brother Qiang, I can't hear anything at all right now. I can barely connect with Gang Ge and the others in the corridor, but once we entered this room, all sounds vanished. No matter how hard I concentrate or listen, it's just blank. I feel like this room has cut off all sound."
I turned my face and nodded at Xiao Guolin. "Unfortunately, there's no way to reach anyone here, so we can't know about Cao Mingzhe's situation either."
Xiao Guolin finally turned his body around. His slightly hollow eyes fixed on A San as he asked, "What about before? Before entering this room, what did you hear from Cao Mingzhe and Anzi?"
"Who is Anzi?" A San asked in confusion.
"You are not Hakka People?" Xiao Guolin's tone was filled with surprise.
I quickly took over the conversation, saying to Xiao Guolin, "He is A San."
"Vietnamese," Xiao Guolin replied, relieved.
When I was telling him my story earlier, there was a character named A San in it.
"Anzi is the missing Hakka Listener," I explained to A San. "Tell Xiao Guolin what you heard."
A San looked at me strangely. (To Be Continued.)
