My shout startled everyone around me. I heard hurried footsteps approaching from behind.
"Don't come any closer!" I yelled. "This is a private matter between me and Fatty, and no one is allowed to interfere!"
In reality, no one could help me; we were unarmed, and the only gun we had was lost in the space where the black hole was located.
I didn't know what Fatty intended with the gun pointed at me, but I didn't believe he would actually shoot. I was worried he might do something reckless, but I wasn't concerned about him pulling the trigger.
If anyone else rushed in, I wouldn't have that same confidence, especially Jack and the Hakka People. Fatty wouldn't hesitate to shoot them without any psychological burden or pressure.
Hearing the footsteps behind me fade away, I steadied myself and said firmly, "Why? What do you want? If shooting me will make you feel better, then go ahead."
Fatty's expression was terrifying; he had never looked so fearsome even when facing death. But I could tell he was calm.
Fatty didn't respond. I felt the muzzle of the gun slowly shifting against my chest, moving downward. I looked down and saw his left hand gripping the gun steadily. A deep sense of dread washed over me; he was about to do something foolish, using the gun to threaten me into not interfering.
But in the next moment, a dull gunshot rang out, followed by a sharp pain that sent my blood and spirit into a frenzy, making me realize my judgment had been wrong.
Bang!
The shot didn't hit my chest; instead, the bullet lodged itself in my right thigh bone.
In an instant, I felt an overwhelming inability to stand. Without a doubt, my femur was broken. I involuntarily took a step back but gritted my teeth to stay upright, shifting my weight onto my left leg.
I cannot fall, nor do I want to show weakness in front of him. I never expected Fatty to shoot at me, but I was prepared to endure his wrath. I did not bring Xiao Ting back, and I was willing to face a punishment far worse than this.
If this could quell Fatty's anger, I would bear it.
"This shot is for Xiao Ting. If anything happens to her, I will destroy you."
"Yes," I gritted my teeth. "I failed; you succeeded. You shot at me."
"We have something."
"What? We?" The severe pain made me forget my anxiety, but it left me even more confused.
"Xiao Ting and I. We have something. Xiao Ting is pregnant."
Hearing those words felt like a knife twisting in my heart. It was as cold as if it had been placed in a freezer.
Before I could process and understand the meaning behind Fatty's words, my heart still trembling, the gunshot rang out once more.
Bang!
"This shot is for my child with Xiao Ting. You broke your promise, and now my child will never see the light of day."
"Ah!"
The severe pain from my lower body nearly made me faint. I couldn't help but scream out loud. The bullet hit my left leg, but at the same time, it shattered one of my testicles.
"You just blew one of my balls!" My legs trembled as I shouted at Fatty, the veins in my neck throbbing.
Fatty glanced down. "That was an accident. But one ball is enough; it won't affect your happiness."
Bang.
Before I could recover from the agony of losing a testicle and the severe pain, another bullet lodged itself in my left leg.
"This shot is for my father-in-law." After saying this, Fatty raised the muzzle and pressed it against my chest.
"Spit!"
I spat at him. The saliva was red; I had bitten my gums until they bled.
"Your father-in-law's death has nothing to do with me!" I suddenly thought that he might be referring to another Xiao Guolin, the shadow of the real Xiao Guolin. "You threw your father-in-law away; this shot should be for you."
Fatty's expression softened a bit, no longer so ferocious. "You're not wrong. So, I've decided to go down with him."
"You've gone mad! Damn it! You crippled me and then plan to just die? What am I supposed to do? Can I walk out like this? No! We either live together or die together!"
I shouted as I charged forward, but Fatty's muzzle stood like a wall, keeping me a meter away from him. Standing was already difficult for me; there was no way I could take a step forward. Instead, he poked me with the muzzle, forcing me to step back again.
"I have never had a real family, never felt the love of parents. Before I met Xiao Ting, I never even thought about starting a family. But I have always had a wish, a vow. If I have a family, if I have children, I will never let them leave me. Even in death, we must be together!"
"Gangzi, I know you like Xiao Ting. She cares for you too. But have you thought about whether she wants this? She wants you to be happy! You should live well, not sacrifice yourself for her. If you do this, she will never find peace!"
Fatty shook his head. "You don't understand; you don't know her. She looks strong on the outside, but she's very fragile. Without me by her side, she will be scared."
I gritted my teeth and stood firm, glaring as I shouted, "You won't find her down there; no one can enter that black hole. Gangzi, don't make a pointless sacrifice; it won't help. Your friends still need you, and your mother is waiting for you to come home."
Fatty shook his head again. "Mom has you. Don't tell her about me; I don't want her to be sad, not even a little bit. I have no regrets towards any of my friends; my heart is at peace. Um... don't be too hard on Huang Hai; he's not having an easy time either. Alright, I need to fulfill my promise now. I'm going to be with my wife and child; we will never be apart. Wish us well."
With that, Fatty took a step back, and at the same time, the gun in his hand fired a bullet.
'Bang'
The bullet struck the ground at my feet, sending shards of stone flying into my leg bone with a sharp pain. But my heart hurt even more.
I knew that if I didn't stop him immediately, I would lose this friend forever.
"I need you too!" I shouted almost in tears. "Do you think just because my leg is broken I can't jump down after you?"
'Bang'
The response was the sound of the gun and another bullet that ricocheted off the ground and shot into my leg bone with relentless force.
My body shook violently for a moment, but I did not fall as Fatty intended.
Bang, bang, bang...
With every step Fatty took backward, Muzzle fired a bullet. I felt like there were more bullets embedded in my legs than in my thighs.
After the gun let out a hollow click, Fatty discarded the pistol and drew out the Black Longsword from behind him. Pressing the blade against his cheek, he said emotionally, "Thank you. I really love this sword."
His heels had already touched the edge of the Dam, and I thought he could feel it as he stood still, holding the Black Longsword.
"If there is an afterlife," my eyes blurred with tears, but I could still clearly see Fatty's Adam's apple move significantly. "I would still want to be brothers with you."
After saying this, Fatty fell backward while holding the Black Longsword.
"No!" My scream echoed in the space.
I watched as Fatty disappeared before my eyes. My heart plummeted along with him toward the bottom of the Dam. My legs throbbed with pain, but it was nothing compared to the heartbreak I felt.
I forgot about the pain and desperately moved my feet, staggering forward. My consciousness was fading, but I felt that I might be able to catch him.
However, before I could take two steps, someone grabbed me from behind and held me tightly. I turned around with fury in my eyes and spat out a few words through clenched teeth. "American Guy, let go of me. Otherwise, I'll drag you down to hell with me."
With that, I raised a hand tightly gripping a Grenade.
Jack's face stiffened. He released me and stepped aside.
"Stay away from me, don't think about knocking me out when I turn my back," I glared at Jack.
Suddenly, a buzzing sound came from behind me. My body went limp and collapsed downward.
I managed to turn my head and saw a heartbreakingly beautiful face.
"Damn." That was the last word I uttered.
I had forgotten about the Hakka Girl; she had the guts to kill, so knocking someone out was nothing to her.
When I woke up, I was lying on a massive rock. The sunlight poured down on me like fire, my lips cracked like tree bark, and there was a burning sensation in my throat.
I couldn't speak or even move. But that didn't stop me from hearing the conversation around me. I lay flat, unable to see anyone, only able to listen to two people talking. It was Jack and Tang Yumo murmuring about something.
"The time is almost up; they haven't detonated the Antimatter Bomb early. They must be buying us time," Jack's voice said.
"What if it doesn't explode in the end?"
"You take everyone and leave; I'll go back. No matter what, I have to detonate the Antimatter Bomb. For Xiao Ting, and also for... Fatty."
"Is it even useful? Can you even find the bomb?"
"Something has to be done. So many people have died for this; we can't let their deaths be in vain."
"And me..." I struggled to make a sound, but only a vague 'I' escaped my throat.
Several faces appeared before me, blocking the blinding sunlight.
"Brother Qiang, we're out," A San said excitedly.
I couldn't respond, my body, especially my legs, was convulsing with pain.
Jack noticed my intent and helped me up from behind.
"We've left the underground and moved as far away from the underground space as possible. It should explode soon; let's wait a bit longer."
Suddenly, I froze. A spectacular and terrifying scene unfolded before my eyes.
The rock we were on was essentially a low hill. Most of it was buried in sand, but the part exposed above the desert was still quite large, at least noticeably high. From here, I could see a vast distance.
In the distance, the windless desert rippled like waves but suddenly began to boil like water. It was as if this wasn't a sea of sand but water. The desert came alive, the continuous dunes surged violently, creating massive waves of sand.
At the same time, a thunderous rumble echoed from below. The giant rock hill beneath me shook violently.
This process lasted only a brief moment; in an instant, the boiling desert collapsed.
The desert before me suddenly transformed into a basin, and the center of the collapse resembled an endless pit, with all the sand from the desert flowing toward its center.
My vision began to blur again. I could hear Jack murmuring, "It's over."
Is it really over?
Everything went dark, and I lost consciousness... (THE END)
