As night fell, the Eternal Spring Palace was in chaos.
By the late hours, Qingya began to vomit incessantly, each time bringing forth blood.
Every time Qingya coughed up blood, Xiyue felt as if his heart were being twisted by a sharp blade. Enraged that night, he summoned all the imperial physicians, his face contorted with fury as he shouted, "If you cannot cure her, then be prepared for execution!"
Standing before the kneeling physicians, Xiyue paced anxiously, his voice rising in desperation. "Is there no one among you who can save my Qingya?! Is there truly nothing you can do?"
The physicians bowed their heads in silence, the atmosphere thick with dread. Suddenly, a voice broke through the tension as one of them knelt down. The others looked up in alarm.
Xiyue brushed his sleeve aside and unexpectedly knelt before the physicians with a thud, tears streaming down his face as he pleaded, "I beg you, save my Qingya. If you can heal her, I would give up everything—even my life!"
Coughing softly, Qingya listened to Xiyue's words, her eyes brimming with tears. In that moment, she realized who truly deserved her love and trust for a lifetime.
Regret filled her heart; she lamented not having met him sooner, not having encountered him in her prime!
Hearing her call, Xiyue rushed to her bedside, nearly stumbling in his haste.
He grasped Qingya's delicate hand tightly, as if fearing she might slip away from him at any moment. His grip was so strong that it made Qingya wince slightly.
"Qingya, I will not let you die. I swear it!" Xiyue declared with unwavering determination.
"All life is determined by fate; alas, I cannot accompany you any longer," Qingya replied weakly, her eyes filled with reluctance.
"After meeting Qingya, how could I live without you?" Xiyue cried openly in front of Qingya, tears streaming down his face without restraint, his sorrow piercing deep into his heart.
Qingya, feeling weak and distressed, reached out to gently touch his cold cheek, chilled by the tears. Her lips trembled as she struggled to find the right words; she knew that making Xiyue forget her was something he could never do.
"Your Majesty, there is a medicine that can cure the Empress's ailment," one of the court physicians finally spoke up, unable to bear the sight any longer. The other physicians nearby regretted not stopping him from saying those words. At once, Xiyue snapped back to attention, his gaze sharp as he turned to the physician.
"What medicine? Just tell me, and I will surely find it," Xiyue asked eagerly.
"The Empress has been afflicted by Heavenly Bamboo Accumulated Poison. She must have inhaled the poison before it was exacerbated by Plum Blossom Wine. The antidote is common enough, but the catalyst..."
The physician hesitated, unsure whether to reveal the truth. Xiyue's expression darkened with urgency as he stepped forward and grabbed the stammering physician by the collar. "What is it?!"
"Your Majesty has previously consumed Tianshan Snow Lotus to treat this poison, but Tianshan Snow Lotus has long since vanished. Now, only your own flesh and blood can save her..."
At these words, a collective gasp echoed through the room as the palace attendants turned pale with fear. Even Qingya on the bed widened her eyes in shock, speechless for a moment.
Yet after a few seconds of stunned silence, Xiyue suddenly burst into laughter, leaving everyone puzzled as they looked at him.
His eyes sparkled like dawn, and he addressed the physician below him with conviction: "To save Qingya with my own flesh and blood is worth it!"
In that instant, Qingya began to cry again, tears flowing freely from her eyes.
She realized that while she hadn't fallen in love with Xiyue at first sight, developing feelings for him had taken only three or four days—her heart was filled with emotion.
