It was clear that it was no longer ten o'clock in the morning, yet the sunlight was even more blinding than at noon.
Li Xiao squinted against the sun, trying to see Jiang Yan, who stood before her backlit. She could barely make him out.
She remained silent, unsure of what to say. She couldn't just show him the photos from her camera right now because she knew they contained countless moments of him.
Despite the cheers and shouts echoing from all around the playground, this spot felt strangely quiet. Li Xiao could even hear Jiang Yan's breathing.
"Well, I won't look at them for now. When you develop them, remember to pick a handsome one for me as a keepsake," Jiang Yan broke the stillness, his voice cutting through the silence.
Li Xiao looked up at him; he was still smiling, that beautiful smile of his. He didn't have dimples, yet he was still so charming.
"You must be hot after all this time. Here, wipe your sweat," he said suddenly, handing her a tissue. Li Xiao hurriedly took it and dabbed at her forehead, her heart racing. He couldn't have noticed, could he?
Am I really being infatuated?
"Jiang Yan! Hey, Jiang Yan! Come over here for the awards!"
Fortunately, a teacher at the podium called him away just in time.
"I'll go ahead," he said as he rushed off but glanced back at Li Xiao, as if he wanted to say something.
"Oh, okay."
She watched him wave goodbye as he ran toward the podium, high-fiving classmates and friends waiting there. In just a few strides, he stepped onto the winner's platform, waving and greeting those around him. The atmosphere was so wonderful; everyone responded in kind, creating a beautiful moment together.
What was beautiful was something Li Xiao had never experienced.
She envied him, envied his bright and exuberant nature, envied how he lived so passionately like the sun, while she always hid in the shade when the sun came out.
"Li Xiao, hurry up and come over, we're taking pictures!"
Lost in thought, she heard her Photography Team leader calling her.
She quickly ran over, looking at the leader with confusion.
The leader sighed helplessly, "Oh, didn't you switch with Chen Jing? You should stick with it until the end. We're already at the award stage; just go all the way through."
"Huh? Is that okay?"
"Yes, yes, it's fine." The leader didn't know that at this moment, Li Xiao's heart was secretly leaping with joy.
Holding her camera, she approached him again and found his expression of "I knew you would come" was confirmed by his smug look as he gazed at her.
"Come on, School Leaders stand in the middle! Let's take a victorious group photo." The director was always the best at organizing things.
Jiang Yan held a bouquet of sunflowers in his arms, bright yellow and quite lovely.
She adjusted the lens; he looked at her. For a moment, she couldn't tell if he was smiling at the camera or at her, then he raised his left hand and made a silly "Yay" gesture.
The weather was too hot; even a slight movement made her heart race like a drum.
Li Xiao thought he really knew how to smile; his grin was brighter than a sunflower.
Once all the award ceremonies were over, a familiar voice suddenly rang in her ears, soft yet clear.
"Can I take a picture with you?"
She turned to look at him. He was gazing at her intently, his eyes seemingly revealing his thoughts, hoping to capture a photo together.
"Is that okay? I really want to take a picture with you."
He waited for her to nod, and after a moment of consideration, she obliged.
"Can we use your camera?"
She nodded, and in the next second,
he shouted at the top of his lungs in one direction,
"Gu Zhan, come here quickly!"
Seeing him like this made her unable to suppress a laugh.
