Raymond knelt on the cold ground, gritting his teeth in pain, sweat beading on his forehead as his body trembled uncontrollably. The Black Worm ravaged within him, slicing through every nerve like countless small knives. The agony made it nearly impossible for him to think; the voices in his head grew increasingly clear and sharp, endless whispers echoing in his ears. 0

At that moment, a faint voice suddenly emerged from the lifeless body of a nearby mercenary, the crackling sound of a radio breaking through the blood-stained device. 0

"...Raymond?... Can anyone hear me?... This is Jonas... respond, please respond!" 0

Raymond instantly held his breath, listening to that familiar voice as his chest heaved violently. Jonas's call seemed to be his only lifeline, piercing through the pain and chaos surrounding him, allowing him to regain a sliver of sanity. However, just as he instinctively wanted to respond, the voices in his head turned more malicious, coldly whispering as if unearthing the deepest shadows within him. 0

"Jonas? He is your greatest threat. He and that damned doctor are deep underground, already infected... They no longer care about you, about your pain and struggle." 0

Raymond shot up, his pupils dilating as sweat trickled down his cheeks. The whispers coiled around his mind like a venomous snake, seducing his most sensitive nerves. 0

"They abandoned you, Raymond! You are nothing but a tool... Look, they left you here while they delve into the depths seeking secrets. They don't even care if you live or die! You are utterly insignificant; no one cares about you!" 0

Each word hammered at Raymond's heart like a mallet, nearly shattering his sense of self. His breathing quickened, hands trembling as he pressed them against his head, nails digging into his skin in an attempt to escape this mental assault. 0

"They have long been infected!" the voice sneered again. "You know it... What did they find in that dark abyss? They have merged with those damned Worms. They are the enemy, Raymond! You must... you must eliminate them, eradicate all threats... kill Jonas!" 0

Raymond's mind spiraled into chaos; he could hardly discern what was real and what were the Worm's whispers. He tried to grasp onto his sanity, recalling moments spent with Jonas in life-and-death situations, but those memories were being gradually consumed by darkness. 0

"Jonas is your enemy; he has betrayed you. Only you can save yourself—kill all the infected... kill him!" 0

Raymond's fists clenched tightly, blood trickling from his fingertips. His heart raced as anger and fear intertwined within him like a storm brewing deep inside. 0

"No... no..." Raymond whispered hoarsely, unable to resist the influence of the whispers. His trembling hand reached for the gun at his waist, his eyes glinting with a mad light. He could hear Jonas's voice still echoing in the radio, trying to reach him. 0

"Raymond, respond! What's going on over there?" 0

The voice was so real, so familiar. Raymond's fingertips brushed against the gun's grip, and his internal struggle peaked. 0

Raymond's hand shook as the radio's voice faded completely. His fingers stiffly pressed down on the radio switch, and the moment he turned it off, the world fell into an eerie silence, as if even the sound of breathing had vanished into the darkness. His rationality felt like it was being torn into countless fragments; he could no longer control his thoughts. Everything became distorted, as if the edges of reality were closing in on him, ready to swallow him whole. 0

Raymond could not bear the madness and pain any longer. He knew he had fallen into an abyss of despair from which there was no return. His eyes lost focus, sweat cascading down his temples like a waterfall, every nerve in his body trembling. 0

He slowly extended his right hand, fingers reaching for the handgun at his waist, having already made his final decision. The cold muzzle pressed against his chin; at the moment his fingertip rested on the trigger, Raymond felt the tranquility of death was almost within reach. 0

"End it... end it all..." he murmured to himself, closing his eyes, seeking only release. 0

However, in that instant— 0

"Click!" 0

The trigger was pulled, but no gunshot rang out. Raymond opened his eyes in shock; the gun had jammed silently in his hand. He stared incredulously at the weapon, despair and astonishment intertwining within him, forming an uncontrollable chaos. Raymond's breath quickened, his hands trembling so violently he could barely hold onto the grip. 0

"How could this happen... why?!" he nearly shouted, his voice echoing in the empty darkness of the cave. In that moment, Raymond felt his existence was absurd; even death could not be achieved smoothly, as if fate were cruelly toying with him. 0

"You are not meant to die..." A deep, dark voice echoed again in his mind, its cold tone seeming to come from an endless abyss of darkness, filled with sinister allure. 0

"The Black Rope God has chosen you, Raymond... you cannot escape. Only by fulfilling its will and completing your destined mission can you find relief... can you die..." 0

The voice coiled around his mind like a venomous snake, whispering the deepest fears and conspiracies. Raymond's eyes widened, the despair within him completely consumed, replaced by an endless darkness and an irresistible sense of fate. His handgun slipped from his grasp, hitting the ground with a hollow thud, while the sound of his heartbeat thundered in his ears like war drums. 0

"The mission of the Black Rope God?" Raymond could not suppress his trembling, his mind flooded with those voices. They were whispers he could not resist, dragging him into an endless abyss. The desire for slaughter, the impulse for destruction—he felt as if his soul had long been manipulated by an invisible force. 0

He could not escape this curse, nor could he choose his own ending. 0
