"Overload anomaly detected." The voice of the artificial intelligence remained calm, yet there was an underlying urgency. "The Boiler Module cannot ignite completely. Possible causes: Power System overload, cooling system failure. Manual inspection of the engine is recommended."
Isabella stared at the words flashing on the screen, and the voice in her head surged again, more rampant and sharp this time. "Ha ha ha, see? You have failed! No matter how you struggle, you cannot escape! This ship is as decayed and useless as you are! You are merely bringing about your own demise!"
She clenched her fists tightly, her body trembling. The Worms in her mind mocked her triumphantly, as if all her efforts were in vain, and all her resolve would drown in the shadow of failure.
"No!" Isabella suddenly erupted with a hoarse, desperate shout. She spun around and slammed her hands on the control panel, her eyes filled with anger and defiance. "I will not let this be for nothing! Do you hear me?!"
The artificial intelligence continued to calmly scan the systems, searching for possible solutions. The lights in the cabin flickered incessantly, making everything appear even more eerie and dilapidated. Isabella gritted her teeth, sweat pouring down her forehead as she fixed her gaze on the panel before her. "I must solve this problem," she thought to herself, reason still battling against the chaos and darkness within.
"Is there a way?" Her voice trembled but carried an unyielding determination.
The artificial intelligence flickered and coldly responded, "Manual reset module for the engine cooling system is operational. Engine module location—" A hologram quickly displayed on the panel, showing the position of the ship's engine, still some distance away from where she stood.
"Manual reset?" she asked hoarsely, her pupils constricting slightly.
"Correct. A manual reset can reignite the engine, but the risks are high." The AI's voice remained calm but hinted at a warning. "Please note that this action may lead to engine overload and increase the risk of total destruction of the ship."
Isabella took a deep breath; fatigue and pain made it hard for her to stand. She knew this was her only chance. The dark whispers continued to tempt her, "Don't do it; you will fail. You will die here for no reason..."
When Isabella heard the AI's calm voice stating that "the risk of total destruction of the ship has increased," she couldn't help but laugh maniacally, her laughter echoing through the dilapidated and eerie Alien Ship. Within that laughter was ecstasy, despair, and endless anger and vengeance. "Destruction?" she muttered frantically to herself, her eyes glinting with uncontrollable madness. "That's exactly what I want!"
She pressed her hands firmly against the control panel, her fingers trembling from exertion. Every muscle in her body resisted her commands; the Worms inside her thrashed about violently as if trying to seize complete control over her body. She could feel those parasites ruthlessly attacking her willpower, attempting to dismantle her from within. "Damn it..." Isabella cursed under her breath, gritting her teeth as cold sweat streamed down her forehead; she fought with all her might against the encroachment of those parasites within her.
Her body felt as if it were bound by countless invisible ropes, each nerve twisting and resisting her will, as if every cell had ceased to obey her commands. Her breathing grew increasingly frantic, bloodshot eyes filled with determination, yet she refused to give up, fixating on the control panel as if it were her only salvation.
"No, I won't let you win!" she shouted hoarsely, her voice sharp and nearly torn to shreds. The voice of the Worm screamed in her mind, trying to manipulate her thoughts: "You cannot escape; we will consume you and make you one of us!"
"I will end this!" she retorted fiercely, a final surge of defiance erupting from deep within. She sensed the immense danger closing in behind her, but she no longer cared. Her only wish now was to see this ship reduced to ashes, to witness the complete annihilation of those Worms along with this damned dark world.
The virtual image of the artificial intelligence flickered momentarily, as if sensing Isabella's inner resolve. Though expressionless, the light dimmed suddenly, revealing a hint of unease and concern. Its voice appeared on the panel: "The end can only come through you."
Isabella scoffed, gripping the panel tightly, filled with ruthless determination. "Then let it end." She knew there was no turning back; the Black Worm within her was eroding her last vestiges of willpower, and time was running out.
"If my life can bring about the destruction of all this, then I welcome it."
With a furious roar, Isabella shook off the whispers in her mind and the voice of the Worm as she moved toward the path displayed on the panel. Each step felt like walking on the edge of hell; the Worm inside her desperately tugged at her nerves, trying to obliterate her will completely. She understood that time was almost up.
However, just as she took a step forward, a decayed alien corpse nearby suddenly convulsed violently. A hand covered in Black Worms lunged out and grasped her ankle. The hand was cold and slimy but possessed an extraordinary strength, as if it intended to drag her into an endless abyss. Isabella's body jolted; she nearly fell to the ground. Looking down, she saw the Worms crawling in the eye sockets of the corpse—the damned parasites were still at work!
"Get away from me!" she screamed, fear and anger that had been suppressed for so long erupting like a volcano. Isabella struggled with all her might; however, that hand clamped onto her ankle like a vice. The Worms slowly crawled from the corpse's arm toward her, seemingly intent on invading her body.
A glint of madness flashed in Isabella's eyes; she would not allow these damned parasites to ruin her. "You disgusting creatures!" she yelled furiously, lifting her other foot and stomping down hard on the alien's rotting head. Her boot crushed down heavily on the corpse with a nauseating sound.
With a thud, the skull shattered under immense force, black ichor spraying out like a nightmare, splattering across her boots and legs. Isabella felt that viscous liquid flowing down her foot as the remnants of the Worms were ground into mush beneath her. In that moment, she almost sensed these repulsive parasites struggling in their death throes but still unable to escape her wrath.
"I will make you all disappear!" she shouted with wide eyes and stomped down again with all her strength, turning the corpse into a puddle of muck. The black liquid splattered everywhere; in that instant, Isabella unleashed all her fear, anger, and despair onto that decaying alien body.
She gasped for breath, her heart pounding like a drum. With a swift kick, she shook off the powerless hand that held her, struggling to break free. "You can't stop me!"
