Beibei loved playing with the little girl from next door. They were of similar age and both enjoyed candy. When Liu Yuan took Beibei to the shop, Beibei played with the neighbor's girl on the side. The two of them sat on the ground, holding candy and starting to eat.
After Liu Yuan finished negotiating the price with the shopkeeper and signed the contract, she took Beibei home. Beibei looked at Liu Yuan and asked, "Mom, can I come here to play often in the future?" Liu Yuan smiled at her and replied, "Of course you can."
Beibei then asked, "Can I come here every day?" Liu Yuan smiled again and said, "Yes." Beibei beamed and said, "That's great!" Liu Yuan looked at her with mixed feelings. She hadn’t expected Beibei to like this place so much. She gently patted Beibei's head and said, "You can come here to play often from now on."
Beibei smiled and replied, "Mm." Liu Yuan smiled back and said, "Then let’s go home now." Beibei responded, "Okay."
As Liu Yuan took Beibei home, they stopped by the supermarket for a quick look around. Beibei was very happy because she had made a new friend. Liu Yuan watched Beibei with a complex mood. She noticed that Beibei was becoming more cheerful. She wanted to send Beibei to kindergarten so that she could play carefree like other children.
After leaving the supermarket, Liu Yuan took Beibei home. Beibei played with her new spinning top on the ground. Liu Yuan held her hand and said, "Be careful not to bump into anyone." Beibei looked up at her and nodded obediently, "Mm."
As they walked along, suddenly Beibei's spinning top bumped into someone's leg. Startled by the encounter, Beibei quickly squatted down to pick up the top. Looking up at the person, she timidly said, "I'm sorry..."
Liu Xiaomin looked at Beibei with a frown and remarked, "Where did this wild child come from?" Beibei blinked innocently at her, looking completely unaware of any wrongdoing.
Liu Yuan looked at Liu Xiaomin, frowning. "Who are you calling a wild child?"
Liu Xiaomin met her gaze with a cold smile. "I'm talking about her."
Liu Yuan stared at her. "Say that again?"
Liu Xiaomin held her gaze. "I can say it as many times as I want—she is a wild child!"
Liu Yuan glared at her. "Try saying it one more time."
Liu Xiaomin shot back, "What if I do? She really is a wild child!"
Liu Yuan's eyes turned icy as she continued to stare.
Liu Xiaomin challenged her, "Liu Yuan, what are you glaring at me for? Do you think you're still the young lady of the Liu family?"
Liu Yuan replied firmly, "I've told you many times, I'm not the young lady of the Liu family."
Liu Xiaomin pressed on, "If you're not the young lady of the Liu family, then what are you doing here with this wild child?"
Liu Yuan warned her, "Liu Xiaomin, I warn you—if you insult Beibei again, I won't hold back!"
Liu Xiaomin retorted defiantly, "What if I do? Wild child, wild child, wild child!"
Liu Yuan's expression hardened. "Say it one more time, and I'll make you mute!"
Liu Xiaomin scoffed. "Liu Yuan, you wouldn't dare!"
Liu Yuan challenged her, "You can try me."
The two continued to glare at each other, their eyes filled with tension.
Beibei tugged at Liu Yuan's sleeve and said softly, "Mommy, let's go."
Liu Yuan looked down at Beibei and smiled. "Alright."
She took Beibei's hand and turned to leave.
As they walked away, Liu Xiaomin called out loudly, "Liu Yuan, are you feeling sad right now?"
Liu Yuan paused and turned to face her.
Liu Xiaomin grinned. "Let me tell you something—Chen Yan is getting married."
Liu Yuan narrowed her eyes. "What does that have to do with me?"
Liu Xiaomin continued with a smirk. "The one he's marrying is the eldest daughter of the the Du Family."
Liu Yuan pressed for clarity. "What exactly are you trying to say?"
With a mocking tone, Liu Xiaomin replied, "I’m saying you've been abandoned."
Liu Yuan shot back angrily, "You're talking nonsense."
Liu Xiaomin laughed. "Whether I'm talking nonsense or not, you know the truth yourself."
Liu Yuan insisted, "I don't know anything."
With a knowing smile, Liu Xiaomin said, "Liu Yuan, stop pretending; I know you're upset."
Liu Yuan stared at her. "I'm not sad at all."
Liu Xiaomin looked at her. "Who are you trying to fool?"
Liu Yuan fixed her gaze. "I'm not fooling you."
Liu Xiaomin continued to stare. "Then why did you bring that wild child here?"
Liu Yuan replied firmly, "I told you, she is not a wild child."
Liu Xiaomin pressed on, "If she’s not a wild child, then what is she?"
Liu Yuan declared, "She is my daughter."
Liu Xiaomin scoffed. "Your daughter? Ha! You mean the child you bore out of wedlock."
Beibei looked at Liu Xiaomin and shouted, "I am not a wild child!"
Liu Xiaomin glanced at Beibei and laughed derisively. "What do you mean you're not a wild child?"
Beibei responded defiantly, "I was born to my mother!"
Liu Xiaomin sneered again. "If your mother gave birth to you, then you're her wild child."
Beibei insisted, "I am not a wild child!"
Liu Xiaomin retorted, "You are a wild child."
Beibei's eyes began to redden.
Liu Yuan glared at Liu Xiaomin coldly. "Liu Xiaomin, if you insult her again, I will tear your mouth apart."
Liu Xiaomin met her gaze with a laugh. "Go ahead."
Liu Yuan's eyes were icy.
Beibei tugged at Liu Yuan's hand and whispered, "Mommy, let's go."
Liu Yuan smiled at Beibei. "Alright."
She turned to Liu Xiaomin and said coldly, "I won't argue with you because you're simply not worth it."
Liu Xiaomin stared back. "What do you mean, Liu Yuan?"
Liu Yuan replied sharply, "What I mean is that I won't argue with you because you're trash."
Liu Xiaomin was taken aback. "You—"
Liu Yuan continued coldly, "Let me tell you, I divorced Chen Yan; it was my decision, not him abandoning me."
Liu Xiaomin shot back, "You're lying."
Liu Yuan insisted, "I have no reason to lie to you."
Liu Xiaomin pressed further, "Then why did you get divorced?"
Liu Yuan answered firmly, "I don't need to tell you."
Liu Xiaomin concluded, "You're just lying."
Liu Yuan glared at her. "I don't have time to waste with you."
Liu Xiaomin shot back, "You're just a liar!"
Liu Yuan ignored her, pulling Beibei along as they walked away.
Liu Xiaomin watched their retreating figures, fuming with anger. She extended her foot, attempting to trip Liu Yuan.
Liu Yuan sensed the movement and swiftly kicked Liu Xiaomin's calf.
Liu Xiaomin cried out in pain.
Liu Yuan turned to her, coldly stating, "If you dare to lay a hand on me again, I'll make you regret it."
Liu Xiaomin glared back, seething with rage.
With that, Liu Yuan took Beibei to the amusement park, where they rode the carousel.
Beibei looked up at Liu Yuan and smiled. "Mommy, this is so much fun!"
Liu Yuan returned the smile. "If it's fun, let's play a little longer."
Beibei nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah!"
They played for a long time and only returned home in the evening.
Chen Yan arrived at Liu Yuan's house, hoping to find Beibei to play with.
When he got there, he found the place empty.
He frowned in confusion. "Where did they go?"
Li Li looked at him and said, "They probably went out to have fun."
Chen Yan furrowed his brow. "Where did they go?"
Li Li shook her head. "I don't know."
Chen Yan stared at her. "You don't know?"
Li Li met his gaze. "How would I know?"
Chen Yan pressed on, "Aren't you their neighbor?"
Li Li replied, "I am their neighbor, but I'm not their shadow."
Chen Yan looked at her, feeling a mix of emotions.
He pulled out his phone and called Liu Yuan.
The phone rang a few times before being abruptly hung up.
Frustrated, Chen Yan stared at his phone.
Meanwhile, Liu Yuan and Beibei were seated by the window in a restaurant, enjoying their meal while taking in the view outside.
Beibei looked at Liu Yuan and smiled, "Mom, I'm very happy today."
Liu Yuan glanced at her and smiled back, "Why are you happy?"
Beibei replied, "Because I can come out to play."
Liu Yuan smiled again, "Then you can come out more often from now on."
Beibei's eyes lit up, "Really?"
Liu Yuan nodded, "Yes."
Beibei beamed, "That's great!"
Liu Yuan chuckled, "Now hurry up and eat."
Beibei nodded obediently, "Okay."
As they were eating, suddenly, Chen Yan appeared in their line of sight. He stood at the door, watching them.
Liu Yuan looked at him with mixed feelings.
Beibei whispered, "Mom, Dad is here."
Liu Yuan replied, "I know."
Beibei asked, "Should we call him over?"
Liu Yuan inquired back, "Do you want to call him over?"
After a moment of hesitation, Beibei nodded, "Yes."
Liu Yuan smiled and said, "Alright, I'll call him over."
Beibei nodded again.
Liu Yuan turned to Chen Yan and said, "Come here."
Chen Yan looked at her with a complicated expression. He walked over and sat down across from them. He gazed at her, feeling conflicted. He had many things he wanted to say, but seeing them in such a warm moment made all his dissatisfaction and resentment fade away.
