Zheng Lingxin released my chin and smiled as he said, "We are on the same path, which is why we can walk together."
"Don't worry, I will treat you well from now on."
"You can still absorb essence whenever you want, just like before."
"I will continue to cherish and spoil you, treating you like a treasure."
As he spoke, he gently stroked my cheek.
"Xu Yue, you're a smart person; you should know what to do for your own benefit."
I fell silent.
He was right.
My only choice now was to cooperate with him.
As long as he was willing, I could continue to live.
I could even continue to enjoy wealth and luxury.
But...
Did I really want to do this?
Did I really want to sacrifice my dignity and freedom just to survive?
I thought for a long time and eventually nodded.
Fine, let it be this way.
As long as I could live, nothing else mattered.
"That's the spirit," Zheng Lingxin said with satisfaction, then took out a syringe from the drawer and inserted it into my vein.
"What is this?"
I looked at him in terror.
"Don't be afraid; it's just a needle to promote follicle maturation."
Zheng Lingxin gently patted my head and said, "Your Follicle is too slow; they can't wait any longer." After saying that, he took out a clean set of clothes and helped me change. "Alright, you should rest now." He touched my forehead and turned to leave.
The next evening, the villagers discovered that Zheng Laor Er and several others were missing, so they rushed to Zheng Lingxin's house to question him about their whereabouts. Zheng Lingxin stood in front of me, smiling as he said, "Do you suspect that I hid him?"
The villagers exchanged glances and nodded.
Zheng Lingxin chuckled and said, "Why would I do such a thing? You all don't trust me at all, do you?" The villagers looked at each other in silence.
After a pause, Zheng Lingxin continued, "But since you don't believe me, I suppose I have to prove it to you." With that, he turned around, drew the knife he always carried, and pressed it against my neck. "Xu Yue, are you going to talk or not?"
"Talk about what?" I blinked innocently. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
"You don't know?" Zheng Lingxin narrowed his eyes. "Where is Chen Yue?"
"How would I know?" I pouted. "I'm not a parasite in her stomach; how could I possibly know where she is?"
"You really don't know?" A cold glint flashed in Zheng Lingxin's eyes. "Xu Yue, I'll give you one last chance. If you still don't tell the truth, don't blame me for being rude." As he spoke, the knife pressed closer.
"Wait, wait!"
I quickly waved my hand, "I'll tell you, I'll tell you."
Zheng Lingxin looked at me with a cold smile, "You should have said so earlier. Did you really want me to resort to violence?"
I sighed and said, "Chen Yue is at the back mountain."
"The back mountain? What is she doing there?" Zheng Lingxin frowned. "Are you trying to deceive me?"
"How could I dare to deceive you?" I shook my head. "I'm really not lying; she did go to the back mountain. If you don't believe me, you can ask the other villagers."
Zheng Lingxin was silent for a few seconds before she put away her knife and bound me up.
"Let's go, take me to the back mountain to find Chen Yue."
"Okay."
I nodded and led the villagers toward the back mountain.
Along the way, I kept looking around, searching for my Mantis Companion.
Last night, I had already discussed with them to gather here tonight to help me take revenge.
I wondered if they had arrived yet.
Just as I was thinking about this, I suddenly felt a chill coming from behind me.
I turned around sharply and saw a swarm of compound eyes staring back at me.
