If I saw a sea of men in the Flying Immortal Palace, now I was surrounded by women.
Daughter Kingdom! The Tang Dynasty was nothing but a fleeting thought.
I led a group of women riding towards Misty Peak, yes, the Flying Immortal Stronghold at Misty Peak.
I recalled the Queen's words: "General, there is a Flying Immortal Stronghold in the north of our country, and it is filled with men. You know, my people haven't seen men in a long time, and I am tired of drinking from the river of motherhood, so you understand..."
I understood; my task, to put it nicely, was to seek a marriage for the Queen, but to put it bluntly, it was to snatch men.
I had never done such a thing before, excitement bubbling within me... but I couldn't forget the thorn in my heart—An Zhao. He wanted to kill me, and I remained a threat to them.
Now An Zhao was the Chieftain of the Flying Immortal Stronghold, imposing and powerful, causing the women behind me to scream in excitement. I had put on makeup, my face painted except for my eyes.
"Chieftain, we from Daughter Kingdom wish to form an alliance with Flying Immortal Stronghold. What do you think?"
I rambled on about the benefits of marriage, emphasizing gender equality. An Zhao seemed lost in thought, as if he were daydreaming. I cleared my throat and called out loudly, "Chieftain!"
He snapped back to reality and looked at me softly, saying, "Sorry, General. You reminded me of an old friend."
"Old friend? Your mother?" I raised an eyebrow, teasing him slightly.
"You are quite humorous, General."
A faint smile appeared on his lips as he replied, "The Queen's intention aligns with mine. However, marriage is a mutual agreement; I can choose a few men for you to take back with you, but you must leave some women at Flying Immortal Stronghold."
The female Warriors behind me began to whisper among themselves.
"General, they are willing to stay..." one blushing female Warrior said softly.
"General, just agree to him," another chimed in.
"General, it's a reasonable condition," many nodded in agreement.
The men behind An Zhao were murmuring among themselves.
"Chieftain, we don't want to go," one man frowned, his face full of reluctance.
"Chieftain, are we to become slaves to women again?" another man asked anxiously.
"Chieftain, think twice," the crowd shouted in unison.
I stood in the middle, listening to the voices from both sides, suddenly feeling a wave of embarrassment wash over me, my face burning.
I slightly raised the corners of my mouth, forcing out a smile, and said loudly, "Everyone need not panic. The Queen is proposing for herself and her people—a monogamous relationship, with men farming and women weaving. The women of the Daughter Kingdom are different from those of the Flying Immortal Palace; they cherish men as treasures, after all, rarity makes value."
An Zhao's pupils suddenly constricted, a glimmer of brilliance flashing in his eyes like lightning, quick and fleeting. I rubbed my eyes, and when I looked again, his expression had returned to calm as he slowly said, "Perhaps the general and the Warriors should rest tonight and deliberate tomorrow."
Before I could respond, a cheer erupted behind me—loud and excited, it felt as if a mouse had fallen into a rice bin.
For reasons unknown, An Zhao had arranged for me to stay in the former lord's room. As I entered, I found that nothing had changed; it was exactly as it had been when I left. A wave of emotion washed over me as I sighed softly. After washing my face and preparing to rest, suddenly there was a knock at the door. "General."
I was startled—oh no, my freshly washed face!
In a flurry, I jumped onto the bed like a startled rabbit and buried my face in the blanket. He heard the noise and pushed the door open: "General, is something wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong," I waved a hand in the air and muttered.
Since I was only wearing my undergarments, he caught a glimpse and quickly turned away: "Sorry to disturb you; An Zhao didn't know you were resting."
"It's fine," I continued.
"Does the general prefer sleeping on her stomach?" he asked curiously.
"Yes, yes," I replied casually.
He fell silent for a moment before saying, "Farewell."
"Alright, alright," I replied nervously.
After his footsteps had faded away for quite some time, I dared to reveal my face.
I let out a long sigh of relief, secretly grateful that I had narrowly escaped a dangerous situation.
Feeling a bit dejected, I realized I hadn't slept well all night, and the next day I was sporting two dark circles under my eyes, making me particularly noticeable.
An Zhao took me around Misty Peak, and as I followed him, I unknowingly wandered into the forbidden area of the back mountain.
My heart skipped a beat, as if struck by an electric shock, and my body began to tremble involuntarily.
"Are you feeling unwell, General?" he keenly noticed my unease.
"It's a bit cold," I replied, trying to sound calm.
Without another word, An Zhao took off his outer garment and gently draped it over my shoulders. As I put it on, warmth gradually returned to my hands and feet. Steadying myself, I asked, "Is the Chieftain this gentle with every woman?"
He fixed his gaze on my eyes, leaving only my eyes visible on my entire face. His stare made me feel uneasy deep inside.
