We were overjoyed when we heard the news. We believed in miracles, and we were certain that Liu Jian would be safe and sound.
We celebrated this good news at the hospital, indulging in delicious food, sipping red wine, and singing and dancing together. We had faith that the future would be incredibly bright, and we believed that Liu Jian would live a healthy life.
The time we spent at the hospital was unforgettable; we supported and encouraged each other, firmly believing that the future would be nothing short of wonderful. During his recovery, Liu Jian began to plan for our future together, mapping out our lives, including my job and our plans for settling down.
He expressed his optimism about what lay ahead, admitting that he had once feared death. We took walks outside the hospital, discussing our future with a light and cheerful atmosphere. Liu Jian told me he had written a will, leaving all his possessions to me. He wished for his personal items to be burned, not wanting to leave me with any burdens.
Hearing those words brought tears to my eyes, but I also felt a surge of anger. Our relationship should not be measured by money; I believed our bond would only grow deeper, and I was confident we would always be together.
Three years later, Liu Jian and I got married. We settled in Shanghai, where he worked at a technology company with stable health during his observation period. I was employed at a Financial Company, and we had a British Shorthair cat and a Samoyed dog.
We believed that the future would be incredibly bright; we were certain our love would deepen over time and that we would always be together.

Liu Jian:
On August 29, 2016, I first noticed Li Wan. We weren't strangers just because we became desk neighbors; I had known her before that. My grades were among the top in class while Li Wan's were among the lowest.
I first noticed her during the opening ceremony when she was playfully messing around with her classmates, completely ignoring the principal's speech. I thought she was different—like wild grass, full of life and vitality.
We came from different worlds; our backgrounds and values were vastly different. Yet, I decided to help her because I didn't want her to waste her potential. Li Wan didn't realize that I had intentionally moved to the back row; she thought I had done so because of my poor grades.
When she noticed me staring at the blackboard, she seemed surprised by my behavior. "Are you an idiot?"
"Ah?"
"With your grades being so good, why don't you pay more attention in class?"
"I like it."
"What do you like?"
"I like studying."
"Why?"
"Studying makes me happy."
Li Wan looked surprised by my answer, but she didn't press further. Instead, she made another request.
"Can you help me get a glass of water?"
"Sure."
I filled her cup with water and placed it on her desk.
Li Wan thanked me and then picked up the cup to drink. I realized she didn't really care about my help; she just saw me as a tool. Yet, I found a reason to stay in the back row.
I began to observe Li Wan and noticed many charming traits about her that I lacked. She liked wearing casual sportswear, enjoyed iced black tea, loved spicy food, admired handsome guys, and liked going out with friends... These were all things I had never experienced, and I found her adorable; I really liked her.
The first semester of our senior year ended, and our class held a gathering. Li Wan showed up in casual sportswear. I wore the same outfit. Friends around us started teasing that we were wearing couple outfits. Li Wan didn't mind, while I took the opportunity to embrace this coincidence.
After the gathering, Li Wan and I shared a taxi home. In the car, she leaned against the window in a daze while I thanked her for helping me out during the gathering.
Li Wan casually replied, "I just happened to be on that taxi."
"Regardless, I still want to thank you."
"It's no big deal," Li Wan turned to look at me, "But remember, you can't tell anyone about this!"
"Don't worry, I won't say anything."
"That's good," Li Wan said, flashing a brilliant smile. "Actually, I think you're a really nice person, just a bit silly sometimes."
I chuckled and touched my head, remaining silent.
I understood what Li Wan meant; she was saying I was adorably foolish.
Li Wan was my first love, the first girl I truly liked.
I silently vowed to make Li Wan happy, no matter the cost.
After returning home, I took out my notebook and began writing my life plan.
I intended to include Li Wan's name in it.
I hoped that Li Wan could live a happy life, and I wanted to be the one to give her that happiness.
I knew I was still young and lacked the ability to realize my dreams.
But I believed that as long as I worked hard, I could achieve them.
I wrote Li Wan's name into my plan, wishing for her to become a part of my life.
On January 7, 2017, Li Wan sent me a text message.
She said she would be attending the school's New Year's Eve party and hoped I could join her.
I was thrilled and immediately agreed.
On the day of the party, I dressed up specially, putting on my sharpest outfit.
When Li Wan saw me, her eyes lit up.
I walked over to greet her.
"You look beautiful today."
"Thank you," she replied with a slight smile before linking her arm with mine as we headed toward the stage.
The party went smoothly, and we had an incredible time together.
After the event ended, Li Wan and I left the venue together.
On the way, I asked her, "What made you want to participate in the New Year's Eve party?"
"Because I wanted you to see the real me."
My heart raced.
"What is the truest version of you like?"
"The truest version of me is a girl who loves adventure and challenges herself."
"I like this side of you."
"Thank you."
Li Wan smiled at me softly and then quickened her pace.
I hurried to catch up, walking alongside her.
That night, I couldn't sleep.
I tossed and turned in bed, my mind filled with images of Li Wan.
I wanted to see her, to talk to her, to share my joys and sorrows with her.
I picked up my phone and sent Li Wan a text.
"I want to see you."
Li Wan replied, "I want to see you too."
My heart raced as I jumped out of bed, got dressed, and fixed my hair.
I couldn't wait to run to Li Wan's house and rang the doorbell.
When Li Wan opened the door and saw me, she was momentarily stunned.
"What are you doing here?"
"I wanted to see you."
"I wanted to see you too."
Li Wan and I exchanged smiles before embracing each other.
In that moment, I felt an unprecedented sense of happiness and fulfillment.
I knew I had fallen deeply in love with Li Wan, and I was willing to give everything for her.
I vowed to spend my life caring for Li Wan, protecting her from anyone who might hurt her.
I believed that as long as I was by her side, Li Wan would lead a happy life.
(The End)
