In the evening, the people he sent out returned with reports that they had not seen Ke'er. He was filled with anxiety, worried not only about Ke'er's safety but also about Wan Xia, who might go mad with worry. In a hurry, he rushed to Aunt Liu's place, his steps quick and his face anxious. 0

Aunt Liu informed him that Wan Xia had seen a stranger in the afternoon. The man had instructed her to come alone to the abandoned house at Shiqiao Gou at eight o'clock that night; otherwise, she would never see Ke'er again. 0

He sensed that the visitor meant trouble, and his worries multiplied. Unable to wait for his subordinates to arrive, he hurriedly mounted his horse and galloped towards Shiqiao Gou, which was three hundred miles away. 0

The moonlight was vast, and the night sky was dim. A flickering light emanated from a dilapidated house in Shiqiao Gou, the flames dancing uncertainly in the wind, casting shadows that swayed on the walls. 0

Wan Xia couldn't understand why Fang Xiulan wanted to take Ke'er away. She had returned Zhou Tangyan to her; wasn't that enough? Why did Fang Xiulan harbor such deep hatred towards her? Wan Xia furrowed her brow, her eyes filled with anxiety and confusion as she paced restlessly in the abandoned house. 0

"Do you know what kind of life I've been living this past year? Others may be around me, but his mind and heart are always on you. Jiang Wanxia, you deserve to die!" 0

Fang Xiulan had lost much of her sanity; her eyes were wide and bloodshot as she tightly held the infant in her arms. Ke'er cried out in discomfort, her little face turning red as she waved her tiny hands in struggle. 0

"I deserve to die; I truly do. But please don't treat Ke'er this way. Zhou Tangyan is already your husband. If you give Ke'er back to me, I will take her far away and never appear before you again. You can be a happy couple; you will have a wonderful future together." 0

She echoed Fang Xiulan's words, desperately trying to soothe her uncontrollable emotions. Her voice trembled slightly, fearing that Fang Xiulan might harm Ke'er in a fit of rage. Her hands stretched out nervously but hesitated to draw closer. Yet as she spoke these words, her heart felt like it was being pierced by needles, and a flash of pain crossed her eyes. 0

"Husband? It's just a title! He has never touched me; his thoughts are only of you and that damned child of yours. He promised me we would be married for a year, but he couldn't even endure that long." 0

Fang Xiulan's emotions were on the brink of collapse; her once delicate face twisted into a terrifying grimace. Her voice became hysterical as she clutched Ke'er even tighter, causing Ke'er's cries to grow louder still. 0

"What kind of marriage is this? What did he promise you?" Wan Xia asked, her face filled with confusion as she fixed her gaze on Fang Xiulan. Fang Xiulan, however, laughed even more maniacally, her laughter echoing through the dilapidated house. 0

"You don't know, do you? He has hated the Zhou family since his mother's death, so I helped him take revenge. I even swallowed your family's rice business! He wanted to do the same because your mother was also one of the 'executioners,' but he was afraid you'd hate him and couldn't bring himself to do it, so I helped him." 0

Her smile grew increasingly smug, completely disregarding Ke'er, who was crying uncontrollably in her arms, a twisted pleasure evident on her face. 0

Wan Xia finally understood the reason behind his sudden decision to divorce her. A sense of relief and joy washed over her; it turned out he had never betrayed her. The smile on her face burned in Fang Xiulan's eyes, which flickered with jealousy and hatred. Fang Xiulan's slender fingers slowly moved toward Keer's neck. Wan Xia, frightened, rushed forward and tightly grasped Fang Xiulan's wrist. "What do you want? I'll agree to anything; just please let Ke'er go." 0

"Will you give me anything I ask for? Then I want your life; will you give it?" Her voice grew increasingly shrill as her long fingers tightened, not allowing Wan Xia any time to think, madness gleaming in her eyes. 0

Without hesitation, Wan Xia took the bowl of dark potion from the man in black. She glanced at it, gritted her teeth, and drank it all in one go. The bitter liquid flowed down her throat. "I hope you keep your promise," she said calmly to Fang Xiulan. 0

Fang Xiulan seemed taken aback by how readily she agreed. The child in her arms continued to cry, yet she stood there dazedly watching Wan Xia collapse. Wan Xia's body slowly fell to the ground, a glimmer of determination in her eyes. 0

At that moment, the old wooden door was suddenly kicked open with a loud crash. Zhou Tangyan almost immediately spotted Wan Xia lying on the ground, barely alive. His face turned pale as he widened his eyes in terror. "Wan Xia! Wan Xia..." 0

He repeatedly called her name, his voice choked with emotion. In one swift motion, he rushed over and knelt beside her, gently lifting her into his arms. But she lacked the strength to respond, her head resting limply against him. 0

"I... I have a secret to tell you." Her delicate fingers brushed against his cheek as she struggled to muster a smile that was both weak and beautiful. 0

"Back then... when my second cousin ran away from the wedding, it was me. We had planned it together; the sudden proposal at the wedding hall was something I had schemed beforehand because... because my mother and the others wouldn't let me marry..." 0
