"Great-Grandma, hello," Beibei called politely.
"Oh my, little darling, you are so well-behaved," Qian Yuqin replied happily.
"Great-Grandma, how is your health?" Beibei asked with concern.
"Great-Grandma is very well," Qian Yuqin said with a beaming smile.
"Great-Grandma, please take good care of yourself," Beibei urged.
"Okay," Qian Yuqin felt warmth in her heart.
"Great-Grandma, please take these gifts back," Beibei said as she returned the gold longevity lock and bracelet that Great-Grandma had just given her.
"My dear, these are gifts from Great-Grandma to you; you must accept them," Qian Yuqin insisted.
"Great-Grandma, Mom said I shouldn't accept things from others casually," Beibei shook her head.
"My dear, you are not just anyone; you are part of Great-Grandma's family," Qian Yuqin said earnestly.
"But..." Beibei hesitated.
"If you refuse again, Great-Grandma might get upset," Qian Yuqin said playfully serious.
"Then... fine," Beibei compromised.
"That's more like it," Qian Yuqin smiled in satisfaction.
"Grandma, don't spoil her too much," Chen Yan said somewhat helplessly.
"I enjoy it," Qian Yuqin replied proudly.
Chen Yan: "..."
"Xiao Yan, quickly tell Grandma what’s going on," Qian Yuqin urged impatiently.
"Grandma, this matter is quite complicated," Chen Yan said with some difficulty.
"Then make it brief," Qian Yuqin suggested as a compromise.
"Grandma, do you remember Liu Yuan?" Chen Yan asked tentatively.
"Liu Yuan?" Qian Yuqin frowned in thought.
"Yes," Chen Yan nodded.
"The daughter from the Liu family?" Qian Yuqin recalled.
"Yes," Chen Yan nodded again.
"I remember. What about her?" Qian Yuqin asked in confusion.
"Beibei is her daughter," Chen Yan stated plainly.
"What?" Qian Yuqin was taken aback in shock.
"Grandma, that's how it is," Chen Yan summarized the situation, focusing on the key points.
"I see now," Qian Yuqin realized after listening to her grandson's explanation.
"Grandma, do you blame me?" Chen Yan asked cautiously.
"Silly child, how could Grandma blame you?" Qian Yuqin shook her head.
"Thank you for understanding, Grandma." Chen Yan sighed in relief.
"Xiao Yan, now that you are married to Yuan Yuan, make sure to treat her well and never let her down," Qian Yuqin advised earnestly.
"Don't worry, Grandma. I will," Chen Yan promised solemnly.
"Great-Grandma, Dad is really good to Mom," Beibei chimed in.
"That's good to hear," Qian Yuqin nodded.
---
In the evening, Chen Yan's parents, Wang Min and Chen Sheng, arrived.
"Dad, Mom," Chen Yan stood up to greet them.
"Xiao Yan, you really brought the child back?" Wang Min asked eagerly.
"Yes," Chen Yan nodded.
"Where is the child?" Wang Min looked around.
"In the bedroom," Chen Yan replied.
"I'll go take a look," Wang Min said as she hurried toward the bedroom.
The bedroom door was not locked, and Wang Min gently pushed it open.
"Auntie, who are you looking for?" Beibei asked politely upon seeing a stranger.
"You must be Beibei," Wang Min squatted down and looked at Beibei gently.
"Yes," Beibei nodded.
"Beibei, I'm your grandma," Wang Min introduced herself.
"Grandma?" Beibei blinked in surprise.
"Yes," Wang Min confirmed with a nod.
"Grandma, how are you?" Beibei asked politely.
"I'm very well, thank you for your concern, Beibei." Wang Min patted Beibei's head affectionately.
"Grandma, you're really pretty," Beibei complimented sweetly.
"Oh my, what a sweet little mouth you have!" Wang Min beamed at the praise.
"Grandma, this is a gift I prepared for you." Beibei handed over the carefully wrapped present.
"Thank you, Beibei." Wang Min accepted the gift with warmth in her heart.
"Grandma, don't be polite with me," Beibei said with a bright smile.
"You are such a good girl, Beibei." Wang Min couldn't help but pinch Beibei's chubby cheeks.
"Grandma, you and Dad are the same; you both like to pinch my cheeks," Beibei complained.
"Because Beibei's cheeks are just too fun to pinch," Wang Min replied with a smile.
"Grandma, you and Dad both like to tease me," Beibei pouted.
"Beibei, this is a red envelope from Grandma for you. Take it and buy some snacks," Wang Min said, pulling out two large red envelopes and handing them to Beibei.
"Grandma, I can't take your red envelope," Beibei refused.
"Beibei, this is a gift from Grandma for our meeting; you have to accept it," Wang Min insisted firmly.
"Well... okay then," Beibei relented and accepted the envelopes.
"Beibei, stay for dinner tonight," Wang Min invited.
"Grandma, I want to go home and keep Mom company," Beibei shook her head.
"Beibei, your mom has someone with her; you don't need to worry," Wang Min quickly reassured her.
"Grandma, I still want to go home and be with Mom," Beibei insisted.
"Alright then," Wang Min said, a bit disappointed.
"Don't be sad, Grandma. I will come to see you often in the future," Beibei comforted her.
"Really?" Wang Min's eyes lit up.
"Mhm." Beibei nodded vigorously.
"Then let's make a pinky promise," Wang Min extended her pinky finger.
"Okay." Beibei linked her pinky with her grandmother's.
"Pinky promise, one hundred years without changing," they said in unison.
"Alright, Grandma, Dad and I need to go home now," Beibei said as she withdrew her hand.
"Beibei, are you leaving so soon?" Wang Min asked reluctantly.
"Grandma, Dad and I need to get back early to keep Mom company," Beibei explained.
"Okay then," Wang Min conceded with a sigh.
"Don't be sad, Grandma. I will come to see you often in the future," Beibei patted her grandmother's hand for comfort.
"Alright, Grandma will wait for you," Wang Min nodded.
"Goodbye, Grandpa," Beibei waved at her grandfather.
"Goodbye," Chen Sheng replied with a smile.
"Dad, let's go," Beibei said as she held her father's hand.
"Mhm." Chen Yan picked up his daughter and walked toward the door.
"Beibei, come back often," Chen Sheng called out to his granddaughter's retreating figure.
"I will, Grandpa," Beibei turned back to respond.
Chen Yan walked out of the house holding his daughter and got into the car.
“Daddy, I like Great-Grandma and Grandma and Grandpa,” Beibei expressed her feelings.
“Why?” Chen Yan asked curiously.
“Because Great-Grandma and Grandma and Grandpa are very nice to me,” Beibei replied honestly.
“Then you must remember their kindness, okay?” Chen Yan taught his daughter.
“Mm-hm.” Beibei nodded seriously.
“You're such a good girl,” Chen Yan said, affectionately ruffling his daughter's hair.
“Daddy, I want to eat ice cream,” Beibei suddenly said.
“Alright, Daddy will take you to buy some,” Chen Yan agreed without hesitation.
——
Chen Yan took his daughter to the supermarket and bought her an ice cream cone.
“Thank you, Daddy,” Beibei said, smiling happily while holding the ice cream.
“You're welcome,” Chen Yan replied with a slight smile.
“Daddy, do you want some?” Beibei licked her lips and asked.
“No, Daddy doesn’t want any; you enjoy it,” Chen Yan shook his head.
“Daddy, I really like you and Mommy,” Beibei suddenly said.
“Daddy and Mommy like you very much too,” Chen Yan said gently.
“Daddy, I want Mommy to get better soon,” Beibei sighed.
“Mommy will get better,” Chen Yan comforted her.
“Mm-hm.” Beibei nodded vigorously.
——
After returning home, Beibei immediately ran to the bedroom to see her mother.
“Mommy, I'm back!” Beibei called out as she leaned over the edge of the bed to look at her mother.
“Beibei is back,” Liu Yuan said weakly as she opened her eyes.
“Mm-hm.” Beibei nodded.
“Where did you go to play today?” Liu Yuan casually asked.
“I went to Great-Grandma's house with Daddy,” Beibei answered truthfully.
“Great-Grandma's house?” Liu Yuan was surprised.
“Mm-hm.” Beibei nodded again.
“What gift did Great-Grandma give you?” Liu Yuan asked curiously.
"Great-Grandma gave me so many gifts," Beibei exclaimed excitedly.
"Did you accept them?" Liu Yuan asked.
"I didn't want to at first, but Great-Grandma insisted, so I accepted them," Beibei said, feeling a bit shy.
"It's okay. If Great-Grandma gave them to you, just take them," Liu Yuan smiled.
"Mm." Beibei nodded.
"Beibei, Mommy is tired and wants to sleep for a while," Liu Yuan said wearily.
"Okay, Mommy, I won't disturb you," Beibei replied obediently.
"Mm." Liu Yuan closed her eyes and fell into a deep sleep.
Beibei leaned against the bed, watching her mother for a while before quietly slipping out of the room.
"Daddy, why do you think Great-Grandma gave me so many gifts?" Beibei asked in confusion.
"Because Great-Grandma likes you," Chen Yan explained.
"Oh," Beibei said, somewhat understanding but still puzzled.
"Beibei, what's wrong?" Chen Yan noticed his daughter's low spirits and immediately felt concerned.
"Daddy, I feel like I'm taking advantage of her," Beibei sighed.
"Why do you say that?" Chen Yan asked, confused.
"Daddy, I received so many gifts from Great-Grandma today. If she gave me all her money, wouldn't she have none left for herself?" Beibei worried.
"Haha." Chen Yan couldn't help but chuckle.
"Daddy, why are you laughing?" Beibei asked, bewildered.
"Beibei, Great-Grandma isn't short on money," Chen Yan reminded her.
"Really?" Beibei questioned skeptically.
"Mm." Chen Yan nodded seriously.
"That's good," Beibei sighed in relief.
"Beibei, don't worry. Great-Grandma has money; you don't need to be concerned," Chen Yan reassured her.
"Mm." Beibei felt completely at ease now.
"Daddy, I want to work hard in the future and earn a lot of money so that you and Mommy can live a good life," Beibei declared earnestly.
"Okay, Daddy believes in you, Beibei," Chen Yan said with pride.
