Suddenly being humiliated in public left Lin Ziping at a loss for words. He cautiously spoke, his eyes filled with a pitiful look as he turned to Jiang Mingyue. "Miss Jiang, Mr. Zhou, I’m very sorry. We didn’t mean to disturb you, we just—"
Jiang Mingyue interrupted him, "Since you know you're disturbing us, why don't you hurry and leave?"
I didn't even need to intervene; Jiang Mingyue had already taken control of the situation perfectly. I smiled slightly and took her arm, leading her into the front yard of the villa. Zhou Shiwan could only watch helplessly as we entered, the iron gate blocking him outside.
In the courtyard stood a delicate swing, bathed in sunlight on this pleasant day. Before long, my father-in-law and mother-in-law arrived behind me. We had previously agreed to have lunch together at our new home.
Seeing them, Zhou Shiwan looked as if he had found a savior and approached them with a smile. "Dad, Mom, you’re here."
"This villa was originally a wedding gift you prepared for me," she pointed at me, who was leisurely enjoying myself in the yard. "Now they’ve actually shut me out and changed all the locks."
"What do you want to go in for?" Zhou's Father said coldly. "This house was meant for my biological daughter. You are no longer my daughter; do you still want to cling on?"
Zhou Shiwan's face turned pale instantly, and at that moment, Lin Ziping spoke up.
"Uncle, Auntie, you can’t treat her like this. She has been with you for over twenty years; you have invested countless efforts in her. Even without blood ties, that bond is real."
Zhou's Father sneered, "Yes, so much effort put in, yet she turned the branch office into a mess, spending her days with men and living extravagantly while disappearing for days on end. Looking back now, it’s simply a waste of time and money!"
Zhou Shiwan hung her head in shame, speechless. In truth, she wasn’t completely hopeless before; she was just a bit willful. When it came time to fill out college applications for the entrance exams, her family wanted her to apply to local universities. She pretended to agree but secretly submitted an acceptance letter from a university in the same city as Lin Ziping.
Once she freed herself from the constraints of the Zhou family, she completely indulged herself in a life of excess and debauchery, letting her studies fall apart.
After graduation, the Zhou family still gave her a chance to manage a branch office and sent capable assistants to support her. Yet, she remained indifferent, often taking spontaneous trips with Lin Ziping.
She naively believed that the Zhou family was wealthy enough that someone would always clean up her mess. Zhou's Mother looked meaningfully at Lin Ziping and asked with a smile, "You two are truly in love, aren't you?"
The sudden question made Lin Ziping nod hurriedly. "Yes."
"Since it's true love, you should face challenges together. What does this little setback matter? The most important thing is that you two are in sync, right?" Jiang's Mother said, turning to Zhou Shiwan. "Besides, your boyfriend doesn't seem like the materialistic type; he won't mind that you have nothing right now."
After finishing her words, Jiang's Mother walked over to Jiang Mingyue with a beaming smile. "Mingyue, I saw two bags while shopping earlier that I think would suit you perfectly. Come take a look and see if you like them."
"Thank you, Mom," Jiang Mingyue replied happily.
Lin Ziping stood at the door, his gaze sharp and piercing as if he could see right through me. I suddenly recalled a gym class in high school when Lin Ziping was in my class. Just as I was about to sprint past him, he suddenly fell in front of me, scraping his knee open.
Yet he told Zhou Shiwan, "Song Song didn't mean to hurt me; I'm fine." Only someone as naive as Zhou Shiwan would fall for his clumsy act.
