"What do you think?" Chen Yan didn't answer, instead, he countered her question.
"I..." Liu Yuan didn't know how to respond.
"If you weren't interested in me, you wouldn't have let me into your room, nor would you have asked me such a question," Chen Yan said with a slight smirk.
Liu Yuan felt a bit guilty under his gaze.
"Well, you're the same."
"How so?" Chen Yan raised an eyebrow.
"Don't play dumb with me!" Liu Yuan was getting a bit anxious.
"Yuan Yuan, I've thought about you over the years," Chen Yan suddenly became serious.
Liu Yuan was taken aback. "Then why..."
"Don't you want to get back together with me now?" Chen Yan asked.
"It's not that I don't want to, but..." Liu Yuan struggled to explain.
"But what?" Chen Yan pressed on.
"I just don't want to be as passive as before, being led around by you," Liu Yuan said through gritted teeth.
"Then be more proactive," Chen Yan chuckled.
Liu Yuan glared at him. "Am I not proactive enough?"
She had already asked such a bold question.
"Not quite," Chen Yan shook his head.
"What do you want then?" Liu Yuan was starting to get angry.
Chen Yan leaned closer to her ear and whispered, "I want you to love me again."
Liu Yuan froze, her cheeks instantly flushed. "You..."
"Is that okay?" Chen Yan's tone carried a hint of pleading.
Liu Yuan hesitated for a few seconds before finally nodding. "Show me your sincerity."
"Isn't my sincerity enough already?" Chen Yan retorted.
"I already said, show me your sincerity," Liu Yuan replied impatiently.
"You’re already moved," Chen Yan stated confidently.
"Stop talking nonsense!" Liu Yuan denied it vehemently.
"You can't fool me," Chen Yan asserted firmly.
Liu Yuan bit her lip. "I am moved by you, but it's not at the level of liking yet."
"Then I will work hard to make you like me again," Chen Yan said with full confidence.
Liu Yuan remained silent, just watching him.
"Get some sleep early. Good night." Chen Yan kissed her forehead and then left.
Liu Yuan walked over to the sofa and sat down, covering her heated cheeks, feeling flustered inside.
Had she been too forward just now?
She knew she shouldn't act this way, but she couldn't help it. Since Chen Yan had gone this far, she didn't mind giving him a chance.
The next morning, Chen Yan was in particularly good spirits.
As soon as he entered, Luo Ming noticed it.
"President, what has you in such a good mood?" Luo Ming couldn't help but ask.
Chen Yan looked up at him, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth. "You noticed?"
"It's written all over your face," Luo Ming replied with a grin.
"Is it?" Chen Yan said, reaching up to touch his own face.
"Yes, did you encounter some great news?" Luo Ming asked curiously.
Chen Yan chuckled but remained silent.
"You don't have to say anything; I already know it must be related to Miss Liu," Luo Ming speculated.
Chen Yan only smiled, neither confirming nor denying it.
Luo Ming realized he was right and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief. After all these years, the president was finally going to find love.
Chen Yan picked up his phone and sent a message to Liu Yuan: "Do you like flowers?"
Liu Yuan quickly replied: "I do."
"Shall we go on a date tonight?" Chen Yan asked.
Liu Yuan responded: "What about Beibei?"
"We won't take her," Chen Yan sent back with a smiley face.
Liu Yuan replied: "Okay, I'll follow your lead."
Chen Yan texted: "I'll pick you up tonight."
Liu Yuan responded with a simple: "Mm."
Chen Yan put down his phone, feeling elated.
Luo Ming watched with envy; he wanted to be in love too.
That evening, Chen Yan picked up Liu Yuan.
"Aren't we going out for dinner?" Liu Yuan asked.
"I've already made arrangements," Chen Yan replied.
Liu Yuan fell silent after that.
The car drove for half an hour before stopping in front of a cruise ship.
"We're eating on the cruise tonight?" Liu Yuan asked in surprise.
"Yes," Chen Yan nodded.
"When did you plan this?" Liu Yuan was taken aback by his thoughtfulness.
"A few days ago," Chen Yan said as he took her hand and led her onto the ship.
The cruise was empty except for the staff on board.
"You rented the whole cruise ship?" Liu Yuan exclaimed in disbelief.
"It was too noisy; I don't like that," Chen Yan explained.
Liu Yuan nodded, not saying anything further.
They walked into the dining area where a table by the window was set with flowers, candles, and red wine.
Liu Yuan recalled a saying she had read in a magazine: A man willing to spend money on you may not necessarily love you, but if he is unwilling to spend money on you, he definitely does not love you.
Although this statement may seem a bit absolute, it holds some truth.
"Please, have a seat," Chen Yan said as he pulled out a chair.
"Thank you," Liu Yuan replied, settling down into the chair.
Chen Yan took a seat across from her and picked up a glass of red wine. "Care for a drink?"
"Sure," Liu Yuan nodded slightly.
Chen Yan poured her a glass and raised his own. "Cheers."
Liu Yuan lifted her glass to clink with his.
They both took a sip of wine and began their meal.
"How does it taste?" Chen Yan asked.
"It's quite good," Liu Yuan genuinely replied, enjoying the flavors.
"That's great to hear," Chen Yan smiled.
Liu Yuan thought he looked particularly handsome today.
By the time they finished dinner, it was already nine o'clock.
They stood on the deck, feeling the sea breeze; the moonlight was beautiful tonight, and the sea was calm.
"It's so beautiful," Liu Yuan marveled.
"Yes, it really is," Chen Yan agreed.
"Thank you for showing me such a lovely view," Liu Yuan said sincerely.
"As long as you like it," Chen Yan said gently, looking at her with warmth.
Liu Yuan's cheeks flushed slightly as she turned her gaze to the distance.
Seeing her shy demeanor made Chen Yan smile softly.
They stayed on the cruise ship until ten before heading back.
Liu Yuan changed into the dress that Chen Yan had prepared for her—a light golden strapless gown with a skirt embroidered with pearls that sparkled beautifully.
She applied her makeup and styled her hair up, looking elegant and enchanting.
