Rao Jie was not a pretentious person. Given the circumstances, there was no need to pretend to be angry. However, teasing Wu Rong was quite amusing.
"Who said I like fireworks? They pollute the environment," Rao Jie coughed and said with a serious expression.
Wu Rong clicked his tongue in annoyance and asked, "So what will it take for you to forgive me? Do you want me to let you hit me to vent?"
Rao Jie nearly burst into laughter. "Sure, extend your hand."
Wu Rong was taken aback but instinctively complied, extending his hand. Before he could fully process what was happening, Rao Jie had already slapped his palm, the impact reminiscent of two children high-fiving.
The sound of the slap was drowned out by the explosion of fireworks overhead. Yet, it felt like thunder had erupted in Wu Rong's heart. When he looked back at Rao Jie, she was already smiling, her eyes sparkling with joy as if he had done something to make her happy.
Her small hand lingered on his large palm, momentarily forgotten.
Wu Rong's expression darkened as realization dawned on him. Rao Jie had long stopped being angry; she was just teasing him on purpose. Did she now have the courage to do such things with him? Was there something different between them?
Seeing him lost in thought, Rao Jie couldn't help but smile and said, "Yeah, the fireworks are beautiful, and I'm not angry anymore, but..."
Before she could finish her sentence, Wu Rong interrupted, "Once again, it's you who initiated contact."
A warning bell rang in Rao Jie's mind. Before she could react, Wu Rong kissed her. This time, it was just a gentle brush of lips—brief and without entanglement.
After pulling away, Rao Jie finally managed to complete her thought. "From now on, you're not allowed to take advantage of me."
Wu Rong smiled charmingly, his gaze lingering on Rao Jie as if he hadn't heard her last words. He raised an eyebrow and said, "Rao Jie, I'm really happy to watch the fireworks with you. I never thought these things had any meaning before; they were just chemical reactions. But meeting you changed everything; everything feels different now."
The world around them seemed to become more vibrant and colorful.
In such an atmosphere, Rao Jie found herself at a loss for words; there was no way to correct Wu Rong's earlier behavior. Women have no resistance to romantic gestures, and neither did Rao Jie. Watching the sky filled with blooming fireworks—knowing they were set off for her—made it impossible not to feel moved.
Her heart softened considerably.
Wu Rong didn't like crowds and wanted to leave before the fireworks finished.
"Are we almost done? Do you want to come to my room?"
It was no wonder that Rao Jie was overthinking. In such a noisy environment, Wu Rong spoke close to her ear, his voice deep and melodious, like raindrops falling into an ancient well. Having just been moved by the moment, Rao Jie immediately felt her face flush as she stammered, "W-why would I go to your room?"
Wu Rong blinked and replied, "Aren't you going to soak in the hot springs? Just for a little while this morning?"
Rao Jie: ...So that's what he meant by the hot springs.
Thinking that Rao Jie might still be hesitant, Wu Rong continued, "I promise I won't soak with you this time. I'm afraid I won't be able to control myself and end up suffering. It's better if I don't torture myself."
Rao Jie felt her face heat up again and firmly shook her head, refusing to go.
Wu Rong looked a bit disappointed but didn't press the issue. "Alright then, I'm leaving. Just don't go out with other guys in the middle of the night, okay?"
