Rao Jie couldn't be bothered to pay attention to him. As she saw him turn to leave, something suddenly flashed in her mind, and her body acted before her brain could catch up. By the time she realized what she was doing, Rao Jie had already rushed forward and grabbed Wu Rong's arm.
Wu Rong was startled by Rao Jie's sudden action. "What are you doing?"
For a moment, Rao Jie was at a loss for words, unsure how to explain herself. However, she knew that Chang Fei had gone looking for him, but it seemed like it was a wild goose chase. Whether she was still waiting there was hard to say.
Recalling the fireworks from earlier, Rao Jie felt a twinge of regret. With Wu Rong's inquiry pressing on her, she blurted out, "I lost something; it might have fallen in your room. I need to check."
Wu Rong was puzzled. Had Rao Jie really left something at his place? With his keen observation skills, how could he have missed it?
He looked at Rao Jie with an expression that seemed to see through everything, making her feel even more guilty. She pushed him gently and urged, "Hurry up! The fireworks are about to end. Once everyone comes in, you won't be able to escape."
Finally, Wu Rong complied and allowed himself to be pushed along.
Once they were in the elevator, Wu Rong asked again, "Did you really leave something at my place?"
Rao Jie replied vaguely, "Maybe? It could be somewhere else; I just want to confirm."
"What is it?" Wu Rong pressed.
Feeling embarrassed, Rao Jie continued to fabricate her story. "Just some stuff girls use; don't ask so many questions!"
Wu Rong stopped probing but his curiosity only grew stronger.
As they approached Wu Rong's door, Rao Jie felt her heart racing. When they both spotted Chang Fei leaning against the doorframe, they froze in their tracks.
Rao Jie stared blankly at Chang Fei; so she really was here.
But as soon as Wu Rong caught sight of Chang Fei, he turned to look at Rao Jie, a smirk slowly forming on his lips.
Chang Fei quickly noticed their arrival. She lifted her head with an initially joyful expression that instantly froze upon seeing Rao Jie next to Wu Rong. Her gaze darted back and forth between the two in disbelief.
It was already late evening—Wu Rong returning so late had made her wait for ages, but now he had brought Rao Jie back with him. What did this mean? Were they now close enough to spend the night together?
Chang Fei's expression grew increasingly terrifying as her grip on her phone tightened and began to tremble. The humiliation of losing out to someone like him tormented her deeply.
Wu Rong didn't spare Chang Fei another glance or even ask a single question; he simply walked straight toward his door.
Avoiding Chang Fei entirely, he opened the door and turned back to Rao Jie. "Aren't you coming in?"
Rao Jie stammered and quickly caught up, but just as she was about to enter, Chang Fei grabbed her arm.
When Rao Jie looked up at Chang Fei, the latter could no longer maintain a friendly demeanor.
"What are you doing, a female student, entering a male teacher's room alone at this hour?" Chang Fei questioned, turning the tables on her.
Rao Jie acted impulsively and now felt a bit regretful. Faced with such an inquiry, she didn't know how to respond and could only muster the courage to say, "I have something to discuss."
Chang Fei's voice rose in disbelief. "What could possibly be so important that you have to come here at night?"
Rao Jie was taken aback by the aggression, her expression darkening. She felt there was no reason for Chang Fei to be so harsh with her. "I think our positions aren't that different, Senior Sister. If you can come here, then I can too. There's really no need for you to be so fierce with me."
