As a piece of flesh was torn from Mangrai's leg, Blood Curse shed forth! Mangrai cried out in pain, his throat bitten through by another Human Pupa, a torrent of warm blood spilling from the creature's mouth. The Human Pupa lifted its head, and with a gulp, it swallowed the flesh whole, followed immediately by a second bite!
A third bite!
A fourth bite!
The Human Pupa resembled a hyena on the African savannah, using its teeth and claws to feast on Mangrai's life.
The corpse hand that had been gripping Chen Changping retracted into the ground, leaving behind dark, gaping holes. I gasped for breath, watching as Mangrai writhed in agony on the ground, being torn apart and consumed piece by piece by the Human Pupa, until his cries grew weaker and finally faded away, reduced to jagged fragments of bone beneath the two creatures.
Everything happened so suddenly that I forgot to help Chen Changping sit up.
Chen Changping struggled to prop himself up off the ground, his facial muscles twitching involuntarily as he softly chanted Buddhist prayers.
The Human Pupa finished devouring Mangrai and exchanged glances. Although their eyes were sewn shut, I could still see the deep affection between them. Then they opened their mouths, smiling as they reached out to caress each other's faces with such tenderness, as if afraid that even the slightest pressure might damage the fine hairs on their skin.
Their hands slid from each other's faces to their shoulders, wrapping around to pull at each other’s backs, drawing closer until they embraced tightly.
I heard one of the Human Pupas emit a muffled sound from its throat: "I... love... you..."
"I... love... you too..." the other Human Pupa responded softly.
My cheeks burned with heat, and a salty liquid flowed into my mouth; I couldn't tell if it was tears or sweat.
The way they embraced finally froze in the previous second, like a statue carved from rock, quietly lingering in that ancient moment of legend.
Everything has come to an end!
In Changlong Tower, it was just me and Chen Changping, along with the deceased Human Pupas and the white bones of Mangrai, glimmering with fragments of sunlight.
The Crystal Buddha in the corner calmly observed everything that was happening.
The tower was so quiet that I could hear the sound of my own blood flowing. I sniffled, holding back the tears that were still streaming down my face. "Ajahn! Is it over?"
"It is over!" Chen Changping sat on the ground. "Buddha said that love between men and women is also a desire that can hinder the cultivation of a Buddha's heart. Who would have thought that this time, it was love that saved us? Ah, is this irony, or..."
"Ajahn, I want to know everything." I squatted beside him, helping to realign his right leg that had been broken by a corpse's hand.
"Do you know about Thailand's Transgender?"
"I do."
"Everything stems from the legend of Thailand's Transgender!"
I had already helped Chen Changping set his bone, using a wooden stick torn from his left leg for support and tearing his clothes into strips to bind it. Chen Changping signaled that he was fine, so I sat cross-legged and listened as he continued to speak.
(In 2008, a strong earthquake occurred near Chiang Mai Temple in Thailand! Strangely, the tremor was so small that it was limited to the temple area. The consequence was severe damage to Changlong Tower at Chiang Mai Temple, which had to be repaired. Visitors who toured Chiang Mai Temple recalled that on that day, there was a circus performing nearby, and among them, the "Human Pupa" act was utterly inhumane, drawing strong protests from many foreign pacifists who posted photos online for support! What puzzled people was that the construction team responsible for repairing Changlong Tower would carry out human-shaped bags from inside the tower every day, while those "Human Pupa" photos posted online mysteriously disappeared overnight. During Thailand's Songkran Festival, the Crystal Buddha enshrined at Changlong Tower did not appear for some unknown reason...)
