Human Bone Belt 5: Enduring the Racing Heart

I shivered as a chill crept up my spine to the top of my head, like countless ants scurrying along each strand of hair, causing it to stand on end and teasing my fragile nerves. 0

In the deep night of early spring, the rain fell lightly. I moved my fingers, bringing them to my lips to gently exhale, the damp warmth spreading in my palms as a faint mist drifted from between my fingers. "Unchained Melody" had reached its final notes, lingering in the Coffee Shop like a mournful ghost gently brushing against every corner, slowly invading my body and telling me the tale of love and death entwined within my heart. 0

As the music finally ended, silence enveloped the Coffee Shop, the small space feeling unusually empty. The lonely patrons had already left in twos and threes, leaving only me and the woman behind me. I could hear her soft sobs. 0

That woman was crying! 0

The sound was intermittent and faint, like eerie threads weaving into my ears, disturbing the inspiration I had just captured. Disgusted, I lifted my head and shifted my body so that I could see her through the glass. The horrifying scene made me shudder involuntarily. 0

Through the glass, I saw her standing right behind me, leaning forward to look at me, her long hair obscuring her face as it fell onto my shoulder. 0

The unexpected sight made me freeze completely; my legs felt cold and were twitching. The skin on my neck exposed to the air tingled as if feeling the brush of her hair, while I sensed her warm breath against the back of my head. 0

One second, two seconds, three seconds. 0

We both maintained the same position, motionless, holding a terrifying balance. It felt as if I could hear my soul screaming in terror. 0

I gripped the table tightly; the force made it shake, causing my laptop screen to tremble along with it. The white glow flickered unsteadily. From the glass, we appeared as shadows dancing in and out of light, as if light itself was still while we were in constant motion. 0

Finally, forcing myself to endure the pounding of my heart, I slowly turned my stiff neck, hearing it creak with each movement. 0

Behind me… there was nothing! 0

Looking again at the seat, it was completely empty! 0

I quickly turned my head back to the window, only to find that the long-haired woman with her face obscured was sitting right next to me, pressing tightly against me. Her face, hidden by her hair, revealed two Azure Blue eyes piercing through, directly aimed at my distorted face. I froze completely. Even the corners of my eyes instinctively withdrew. 0

In that instant, my brain raced, countless scenes from horror movies flickering in a montage, finally settling on a terrifying face: 0

Pale as Paper Face, with hollow eye sockets that seemed like deep pits carved into a flat sheet of paper. There were no eyeballs within those sockets, yet at that moment, I felt her gaze coldly fixed on me. Two white wisps extended from the eye sockets, slowly advancing in the darkness and piercing into my own eyes. Blood-like streaks twisted around the sides of the sockets, resembling grotesque vines spreading across skin devoid of cheekbones. Her damp long hair clung tightly to her cheeks. Amongst the strands, green lips curled slightly upward as if smiling at me, revealing Azure Blue teeth that glimmered faintly under the light... 0

"Are you alright?" 0

Lifting my head from the keyboard, I stared blankly at the concerned waiter. The music had changed to the Titanic theme song "My Heart Will Go On," and the coffee on the table had long gone cold. Looking around, I realized that only the waiter and I remained in the Coffee Shop. 0

"I fell asleep?" 0

"Yes, you dozed off shortly after you arrived. It's already four o'clock; we’re about to close." 0

"What! It’s four o'clock!" I glanced at the old clock on the wall, its pendulum swinging tirelessly as the hour hand pointed directly at twelve. 0

Thud, thud, thud, thud. 0

So I had unknowingly slept for over three hours! I suddenly stood up, and a wave of weakness hit me after sitting for so long; I felt dizzy and nearly fell. 0

The waiter quickly supported me. "Are you feeling unwell?" 0

I shook my head at the waiter, indicating that I was fine, but after a few shakes, I felt a throbbing pain in my head. I raised my hand and rubbed my temples vigorously, trying to clear my mind. A piece of clothing slipped off my shoulder and fell onto the sofa. 0

A woman's coat! It was exactly the coat that woman had been wearing! 0
