I smiled slightly. "I see."
Ma Yuan stared at me. "But I don't understand."
"Why do you know all this?"
I chuckled softly. "If I said it was all a coincidence, would you believe me?"
Ma Yuan remained silent.
I sighed.
"Officer Ma, I don't understand why you insist on holding onto me."
"Those rich second-generation kids, they were criminals to begin with."
"They've done so many bad things; they deserve to die."
Ma Yuan fixed his gaze on me, his voice icy.
"So, you can take away someone else's life at will?"
"Who do you think you are?"
"Are you a judge?"
"Can you ensure that everyone you punish is guilty?"
I fell silent.
Ma Yuan sneered. "Miss Lin, I will catch you."
"I will find evidence sooner or later and bring you to justice!"
I smiled again. "I'm looking forward to it."
Ma Yuan stood up and walked toward the door.
As he reached the doorway, he paused.
"Miss Lin."
"My mother was in a car accident this morning."
"She broke her leg."
I was momentarily taken aback.
Ma Yuan turned his head, staring intensely at me.
"Did you do it?"
I blinked. "What are you talking about?"
Ma Yuan sneered, "I won't let you off."
I fell silent.
Ma Yuan and the Senior Officer walked away.
I watched their retreating figures, narrowing my eyes.
"How interesting."
The Senior Officer followed Ma Yuan and asked, "Is what you just said true?"
Ma Yuan nodded. "Yeah."
The Senior Officer frowned. "How could this happen?"
Ma Yuan shook his head. "I don't know."
The Senior Officer patted Ma Yuan on the shoulder. "Don't worry, your mother will be fine."
Ma Yuan nodded but remained silent.
The Senior Officer sighed. "Speaking of which, that Miss Lin is really ruthless."
"Why would she do something like this?"
Ma Yuan shook his head. "I don't know."
After a moment of silence, the Senior Officer suddenly said, "By the way, isn't Miss Lin also a madwoman?"
Ma Yuan was taken aback.
The Senior Officer continued, "She breaks the law to punish those criminals."
"What difference does that make to us?"
Ma Yuan frowned. "Don't compare her to us!"
The Senior Officer chuckled softly. "Alright, alright."
After a moment of silence, Ma Yuan suddenly said, "Speaking of which, Miss Lin once said something."
"She said some cases won't end with a person's death."
"Those criminals will continue to harm society even after they're dead."
The Senior Officer paused, "What does that mean?"
Ma Yuan shook his head, "I don't know."
"But I think she's hinting at something."
The Senior Officer furrowed his brow, "Are you saying she’s referring to those unresolved cases?"
Ma Yuan nodded, "It's possible."
The Senior Officer sighed, "Then let's go take a look."
Ma Yuan nodded.
I opened the shop door and watched them walk away, smiling to myself.
"How interesting."
Ma Yuan and the Senior Officer returned to my shop. This time, Ma Yuan looked very tired, while the Senior Officer seemed excited.
I quickly finished my welcoming words and smiled, "Officers, is there something you need to buy?"
"We have excellent Acacia here; keeping it by the window can brighten your mood," I added.
The Senior Officer waved his hand and said, "We're here to ask you some questions."
I nodded, "Please go ahead."
The Senior Officer stared at me and asked, "You were behind all those previous cases, weren't you?"
I chuckled lightly, "Which cases are you referring to?"
He continued, "Including but not limited to the Yu Family incident, the assault on a doctor, the rape case, the indecency case, thefts, robberies, and murders—all of them were your doing, right?"
I blinked innocently, "Senior Officer, you really know how to joke."
"I haven't been with the Lin family for a long time."
"I have no connection with them."
The Senior Officer took a deep breath and said, "Miss Lin, I hope you can speak honestly."
I let out a soft laugh, "I am telling the truth."
