At that moment, my heart raced, and even the flashlight in my hand trembled slightly. I stood up and looked around. The trees were more twisted than before, their branches stretching out irregularly like dying limbs, as if trying to grasp something in the sky. 0

The bark of those trees had even cracked open, revealing deep gashes that resembled silent wounds. A faint stench of decay hung in the air, as if corpses buried deep underground were slowly rotting, releasing an imperceptible malice. 0

I furrowed my brow, striving to calm the fear rising within me. My breathing quickened, and my heartbeat grew faster; each thump echoed in my ears, starkly contrasting with the surrounding silence. 0

"What happened to those students?" This question echoed repeatedly in my mind, yet I found no answers. 0

I moved deeper into the forest. With each step I took, the trees around me twisted even more bizarrely. The towering ancient trees seemed to sprout additional branches in the blink of an eye, forming a dense, interwoven network that ensnared me like prey. 0

Occasionally, a faint breeze would pass through, causing the leaves to rustle softly, as if something was lurking in the darkness, silently watching me. A chill surged from my feet up my spine, as if icy hands were gently touching my skin through the mist. 0

I instinctively tightened my grip on the Climbing Knife in my hand, trying to use this small weapon to fend off the inexplicable fear creeping into my heart. 0

Suddenly, a noise came from afar on my left. I quickly turned my head, directing the beam of light from my flashlight into the depths of the forest. 0

In that distant darkness, a vague shadow flickered briefly, as if someone was running swiftly; however, in the next moment, it vanished without a trace. Upon closer inspection, the darkness returned to its previous stillness as if nothing had ever existed. 0

"Could it... could it be them?" My heart raced wildly as I stared at that patch of darkness, cold sweat beading on my forehead. 0

The figure I had just seen did not resemble a lost student; rather, it seemed like something... else entirely. I hesitated for a moment, my fingertips unconsciously tightening around the flashlight as its white beam quivered at my feet. 0

Equipment malfunctioning and Footprints suddenly disappearing... everything was heading in the worst possible direction. But years of rescue experience told me—those students were still alive. 0

The air in the mountains grew colder, pressing in from all sides with a suffocating heaviness. The sky gradually darkened; dark clouds rolled above like some enormous creature, lowering until they nearly touched the treetops. 0

Suddenly, a faint sound broke the silence of Ailao Mountain. I quickly turned around, squinting to see through the thick fog, and vaguely spotted a frail figure curled up beneath a twisted tree. 0

I immediately ran toward that figure. There lay a tall boy on the ground, his face pale, lips pressed tightly together, and his fingers stiff as if the blood had stopped flowing. 0

I slowly approached him, crouched down, and gently patted his shoulder. "Are you okay? What's your name? Are you a student from Kyoto University?" 0

The boy trembled slightly, suddenly looking up at me with fear in his eyes. "My name is Chen Mu. Help me!" 0
