I provided simple first aid to Chen Mu and handed him a bottle of water to help stabilize his emotions. 0

As I watched Chen Mu gradually calm down, I spoke softly, "Chen Mu, where are the others? What happened?" 0

Chen Mu tightly gripped the water bottle in his hands, remaining silent for a moment before slowly responding. "At first, we just wanted to explore the outskirts of Ailao Mountain; we never intended to actually enter it." 0

"Later, while taking photos and moving forward, we lost track of the path and ventured deeper without realizing it. By the time we came to our senses, we found ourselves lost." 0

"We searched for a long time until we finally located a spot with a faint signal and sent out a distress call." 0

"At that time, we planned to stay put and wait for rescue. But..." 0

Chen Mu's body began to tremble uncontrollably, and his face turned pale. I gently patted his back to help him regain his composure. After a while, he continued, "Suddenly, a piercing scream shattered the silence, followed by a dull thud from afar. We ran towards the source of the sound." 0

"When we arrived, we saw a massive tree hole slowly closing, and at its edge was a dirt-covered hand weakly clawing at the ground." 0

"We were all terrified and turned to flee..." 0

"I don't know how long we ran; we were completely lost. All our devices had lost signal. We stumbled upon a stone cave where we've been waiting for rescue these past few days." 0

"Today, I decided to come out and look for a signal in hopes of a miracle. We can barely hold on..." 0

At this point, Chen Mu clutched my hand and began to cry uncontrollably. 0

He then led me to their temporary refuge in the stone cave. There, I saw everyone. The moment they spotted me, their eyes lit up. 0

"How did you find us?" 0

A girl named Liu Jie looked at me with an air of arrogance and questioned me. 0

I frowned but didn’t respond to her inquiry. Instead, I checked each person one by one to confirm if anyone had injuries that needed treatment. 0

Afterward, I took out some food and water to distribute among them, helping them regain their strength and prepare for departure at any moment. 0

An hour later, I led this group of college students out of the stone cave and towards the outskirts of Ailao Mountain. 0

The mist around Ailao Mountain seemed to rise slowly from deep within the earth, curling around trees and rocks before ultimately swallowing the entire mountain into obscurity. 0

I led the team along the mountain path, the gravel beneath our feet producing faint scraping sounds, as if each step was conversing with the earth. But these sounds were quickly swallowed by the thick fog, as if they too were disappearing into this boundless white maze. 0

I had been walking with Chen Mu and the others for nearly three hours. At that moment, the Communication Device in my hand emitted a harsh crackling noise. I frowned, trying to adjust the frequency, but no matter how I fiddled with it, the walkie-talkie remained as useless as a discarded hunk of metal, providing no effective signal feedback. 0

"It's still no use; all devices have failed," I murmured, striving to keep my tone steady, but the growing gloom in my heart was hard to shake off. 0

Chen Mu and the others gathered closer, their tired faces showing varying degrees of confusion and concern. The Communication Device was our only link to the outside world, and now that fragile lifeline had completely snapped, meaning we could no longer call for help or seek assistance. 0

I tried once more to fiddle with the device, but all I got in return was more hissing static. 0

"Brother Tian, is it just a bad signal?" Chen Mu asked, his voice tinged with a hint of hopeful desperation. 0

"I'm afraid it's not just a signal issue." I set down the Communication Device and gazed deeply into the fog-shrouded distance. "It might be a malfunction." 0

I knew I wasn't being entirely truthful. 0

"Malfunction? Damn it. These devices were just calibrated before we entered the mountains; everything was fine. But now they all seem cursed, instantly rendered useless." 0

A sense of unease gnawed at me; this feeling of losing control was extremely unsettling. The fog thickened around us, and the distant forest blurred into a pale chaos. The sky hung low like a heavy gray curtain, ready to collapse at any moment and engulf us completely. A cold wind occasionally swept through the treetops, carrying a bone-chilling chill, as if some invisible presence was lurking in the shadows, watching our lost little team. 0

"We should keep moving," I said in a low voice, forcing myself to pull away from the shadow of our equipment failure. "We need to find shelter; we must locate a safe spot to camp before dark." 0

The team pressed on, but nearly everyone’s steps grew heavier. The dense fog seemed alive, wrapping around us; each step felt like crossing into an unknown dimension, plunging us deeper into danger. 0

The images in the distance gradually became blurred, and the outlines of the trees were distorted into strange postures, like huge ghosts waiting for an opportunity to move in the haze. 0
