"Master of Ceremonies, new goods have arrived!"
Xue Feifei, who had been dozing off, immediately perked up, her eyes sparkling as she dashed outside.
The sun blazed overhead, its harsh rays making it difficult to open one's eyes. The salty scent of the sea hit her face as a dilapidated cargo ship docked at the shabby pier. A group of prisoners, tied together with rough hemp ropes, were being dragged off the ship by several fierce-looking soldiers.
"There are quite a few people!" Xue Feifei exclaimed with delight, her excitement evident as she danced around.
Her attendant, Liu He, held an umbrella over her head with a fawning expression. "Master of Ceremonies, although this batch is a bit lacking in quality, each one possesses unique skills. Unlike before, when we only got petty thieves who couldn't hold their own."
Xue Feifei's beautiful eyes sparkled as she surveyed the scene, a playful smile curling her lips. "Oh really? What major crimes have they committed?"
"Alright then, let me show you!"
Liu He lifted a hand and pinched one man's chin, eagerly introducing him. "This one is Wang Laowu, an accomplice in the Mystery of the Man-Eating Bear of Changbai Mountain. And look at this one."
Liu He jumped up to part the messy hair of another prisoner. "This is Wang Mazi, the mastermind behind the Bathhouse Slipper Case. And this one is..."
Xue Feifei looked each one over and couldn't help but click her tongue in dismay. Oh dear, how pitiful they looked! They hardly resembled notorious criminals; each was thin and gaunt, appearing almost like beggars.
It made sense though; these individuals had endured severe torture and a long journey to arrive here alive.
"Wait?" Xue Feifei's eyes lit up as they landed on one particular person, unable to look away.
Though he wore the same coarse cloth attire, it did nothing to diminish his imposing presence. While others were exhausted and hunched over, he stood tall and composed, his lean face betraying no emotion—neither joy nor sorrow.
Xue Feifei had seen her fair share of important figures. It was said that one must bow their head under a roof, but it was rare to encounter someone so proud and unyielding in her territory.
With great enthusiasm, Xue Feifei approached him and asked, "Can you dance?"
The man didn’t even glance at her, disdainfully turning his head away.
"Unappreciative." A soldier swung his whip and struck the man, growling, "The lady is asking you a question. Speak up!"
Whether it was the heat or the pain from the strike, beads of sweat began to form on the man's forehead. Gritting his teeth, he finally replied slowly, "I can play the guqin."
Xue Feifei clicked her tongue in dissatisfaction and raised her chin. "Are you an idiot? I asked if you can dance."
Behind her, Liu He finally found the man's name on the roster. He was momentarily stunned before stammering, "This person is..."
Xue Feifei abruptly raised her hand. "No need to say who he is; once he's here, he has no original name."
She smiled coldly, sizing him up with narrowed eyes that held a hint of mischief and flirtation. "You look delicate; I'll call you Little White. You’ll be a perfect companion for Xiao Ba."
With a sly smile, she added mockingly, "Oh, I forgot to mention—Xiao Ba is a dog. The names sound similar; just make sure you don’t get confused between the dog and yourself."
Little White chuckled bitterly to himself. It seemed that even a fallen phoenix was not as good as a chicken. Though she appeared charming and lovely, he never expected such a venomous heart beneath that facade. As a dignified man of seven feet tall, how could he allow a little girl to humiliate him like this?
Xue Feifei took a deep breath, seemingly mustering all her strength to look at Liu He. However, just as she glared at him, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted.
Startled, Xue Feifei noticed his pale face and bloodless lips, wondering if he had just died like that.
Thinking this, she couldn't help but tremble all over, her voice almost breaking into tears. "Hey... Liu He, quickly... check what's wrong with him."
"Yes," Liu He replied, examining the situation closely before reporting back. "My lord, it seems he... fainted from hunger."
Relieved, Xue Feifei let out a sigh and then mercilessly kicked the person lying on the ground, spitting out in disdain, "Useless thing."
