Xiao Yifeng stood protectively in front of Su Jin. "Mother, please calm down! Su Jin could never do something like this."
I let out a cold laugh. "Ha, you’re blind to the truth! Xiao Yifeng, you really are blinded by love."
Xiao Jingyan took a deep breath, suppressing the anger boiling within her. "Yifeng, step aside. I need to interrogate this woman properly."
"No!" Xiao Yifeng stubbornly blocked Su Jin from view, glaring defiantly at his mother. "You can't treat Su Jin like this!"
A flicker of pain crossed Xiao Jingyan's eyes, quickly replaced by fury. "Wretched child! Have you forgotten that we have severed our mother-son relationship? Do you think I wouldn't dare to do anything to you?"
"I..." Xiao Yifeng was momentarily speechless, a hint of hesitation flashing in his eyes.
Just then, hurried footsteps echoed from outside the hall.
"Report!" A disciple from Xiaoyao Peak rushed into the hall and knelt on one knee. "Master, it's bad! A body has been found on the back mountain—it's Silver Fox Bai!"
At these words, the entire hall fell into a deathly silence.
Xiao Jingyan's face turned pale, her body trembling slightly. "What did you say?"
"I saw it with my own eyes," the disciple said, lowering his head, his voice shaking. "Little Bai... Little Bai is already..."
"Take me there!" Xiao Jingyan commanded sharply, turning to leave the hall.
I quickly followed her. "Master, I'll go with you."
Xiao Yifeng's expression shifted between uncertainty and determination before he finally gritted his teeth. "Wait! I'm going too!"
Seeing this, Su Jin's eyes flashed with a hint of panic. "Yifeng..."
"Shut up!" Xiao Yifeng glared at her coldly. "Don't think I haven't noticed; this must be related to you!"
Su Jin's face instantly turned pale, her lips trembling as she struggled to speak.
The group hurried to the back mountain, where they saw a crowd of disciples gathered, their expressions frantic.
Xiao Jingyan rushed to the scene, and when she saw what lay on the ground, it was as if she had been struck by lightning.
Xiao Bai's pure white fur was stained red with blood, and its once lively eyes had lost all spark. Its body had been brutally torn apart, innards scattered everywhere; the scene was horrifically bloody.
"Xiao Bai!" Xiao Jingyan fell to her knees, trembling hands reaching out to touch Xiao Bai's remains, tears streaming uncontrollably down her face.
My heart ached like it was being sliced open as I crouched down and gently patted Xiao Jingyan's shoulder. "Sect Master..."
Xiao Yifeng stood nearby, his face ashen. He stared intensely at Xiao Bai's corpse, his fists clenched so tightly that they creaked.
"Who did this?" he roared, anger blazing in his eyes. "Who is so cruel as to do this?"
I let out a cold laugh. "Ha, Xiao Yifeng, can't you see? Who else could it be but that woman?"
Xiao Yifeng abruptly turned his head, disbelief filling his eyes. "What did you say?"
"Isn't it obvious?" I stood up and locked my gaze with his. "Su Jin is the one who killed Xiao Bai!"
Xiao Yifeng's expression changed drastically; he opened his mouth to refute but was interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Yifeng..." Su Jin had arrived at the scene without anyone noticing. Her face was pale, terror evident in her eyes. "I... I really didn't mean to..."
At her words, the crowd erupted in chaos.
Xiao Yifeng stood there as if struck by lightning, unable to believe what he had just heard from Su Jin. "What... what did you say?"
Su Jin's legs gave way, and she collapsed to the ground. "I... I just wanted to teach that beast a lesson... I didn't expect..."
"Beast?" Xiao Jingyan suddenly stood up, her eyes blazing with fury. "Xiao Bai is a hundred times better than scum like you!"
With a wave of her hand, a powerful surge of spiritual energy sent Su Jin flying. She crashed heavily to the ground, spitting out a mouthful of blood.
"Someone!" Xiao Jingyan shouted sharply. "Lock this wretch up!"
Several disciples immediately stepped forward and dragged Su Jin away.
Xiao Yifeng remained frozen in place, shock and pain evident in his eyes. "Why... why did you do this?"
Xiao Jingyan shot him a cold glance. "Yifeng, you really are blind. How can you have feelings for such a venomous woman?"
Xiao Yifeng lowered his head, unable to meet his mother's gaze.
I stepped forward and spoke softly, "Sect Leader, please don't be too agitated. We will get to the bottom of what happened to Xiao Bai."
Xiao Jingyan took a deep breath, holding back her tears. "Shanshan, you're right. This is not the time to grieve; we must seek justice for Xiao Bai!"
