The sound of machinery grew louder, resembling the howl of a wolverine, as the green energy coursing through the circuits began to flow back into the body of the Gamma Ray Cannon. The entire system of the Gamma Ray Cannon was once again operational, and calibration data appeared on Liang Muqi's holographic interface, ready for control. Hundreds of kilometers away, the Kser colony ship had once again become a target for humanity.
"Satellite positioning has locked onto the target!"
All operators returned to their posts, reporting to the new commander, Liang Muqi.
"For this round of firing, elevate all cannon muzzles by 34.9 degrees. Shift the South Second Cannon 3 degrees north, the North Second Cannon 2.3 degrees south, and the North First Cannon 1.44 degrees northeast," Liang Muqi instructed as she closed the holographic screen used for calculations. "Our Luan Bird Aerospace Carrier was modified from their battleship design. As far as I know, the enemy's battleships typically place their fuel tanks and power rooms on either side. This time, we will aim the Gamma Ray Cannon at both sides to take out their power supply; they will surely fall."
"Commander, South Second Cannon fully charged!"
"North Second Cannon fully charged!"
"North First Cannon fully charged!"
"Fire!"
Outside the command tower, three green beams suddenly lit up. After resuming operation, the Gamma Ray Cannon's power had noticeably decreased, but its might remained formidable. The powerful discharge split the sea surface into three white waves as it surged into the distance.
Liang Muqi's calculations proved reliable once again; the Gamma Ray Cannon struck its target just before the Kser colony ship exited the atmosphere. The beams from the South Second and North Second Cannons successfully hit the fuel tanks and power rooms on either side of the Kser ship. A series of flames erupted along its hull in a half-black, half-blue sky as the Kser suffered heavy damage, its massive form plummeting through the air—a spectacular sight from below.
"Emergency landing! Emergency landing!" Inside the battleship, Azores shouted to his fellow internal humans while gripping the railing tightly. But this was not a landing; it was a complete descent of the battleship due to their power room being precisely struck by humanity's Gamma Ray Cannon, rendering all engines inoperative. The massive vessel emitted a mournful roar akin to a thunder dragon being slain by a carnivorous dinosaur as it fell from high above, friction creating a layer of red waves around its head before it ultimately plunged into the sea. The powerful impact sent shockwaves across the Pacific Ocean.
In that final moment before sinking, Azores sent a new signal to the Judgment Day ship still stationed in outer space: "Your Majesty, the Kser's power room has been destroyed and is sinking in Vamulel waters. Please be cautious; they have Gamma Ray Cannons!"
Upon receiving this message, Ban Sa furrowed his brow and stood up in the command room, pacing back and forth.
"Your Majesty..." Gad stepped forward but was interrupted by Ban Sa. "After all these years of placing so many 'familiar faces' in Vamulel, why has no one been able to stop these super strategic weapons from being installed on Earth?"
"Your Majesty, with all due respect, the human race on this planet is quite unique," Gad replied with his head lowered. "The Familiar Faces program was highly effective during our civil war, but it seems they have cracked it here in Vamulel."
"And they even destroyed the Kser!" Ban Sa slammed his fist onto his throne, unleashing a powerful wave of energy that forced even veteran Gad to step back.
"It seems I must take matters into my own hands," Ban Sa said as he turned around, surrounded by an aura of ghostly green energy. He extended his hand to summon the Tear Star battle axe from behind his throne; it obediently flew over and pressed against his back. "Gad, it's time to release Xiar and order Judgment Day to move out; we will no longer remain here."
"But Your Majesty, humanity's Gamma Ray Cannons may pose a threat to us."
"You are an experienced veteran, Gad; you know well enough about the costs associated with firing Gamma Rays," Ban Sa said as he approached Gad. "Each shot from our Judgment Day's Gamma Ray Cannon requires shutting down most of our systems to provide energy for it. Humanity has fired their three ray cannons twice already; they must have exhausted their energy reserves by now. Their oceanic defenses have also suffered heavy damage; soon we will return to familiar land warfare—what is there to fear?"
Gad bared his fangs in admiration and praised him: "Your Majesty's strategy is profound! I too hope to participate when land warfare begins."
"You will certainly take part," Ban Sa replied slowly. "I still need you to meet with that stone man."
At that same time on an artificial island,
Humanity could not afford to celebrate just yet because they knew that downing this battleship was merely scratching the surface of enemy forces. They faced an adversary that had yet to unleash its full strength and had already battered their globally constructed maritime defenses into a state of desperation. Had it not been for The Celestial Warriors Alliance's timely arrival, casualties would likely have escalated exponentially.
As Ban Sa had anticipated, humanity had indeed exhausted all energy for firing the Gamma Ray Cannon. The entire artificial island had been disrupted by Ocpie's Super EMP Pulse, and the second shot was now a desperate final attempt. The island had entered a state of complete paralysis. Realizing this, people began to board Hovercraft to retreat back to the mainland, including the tech team of Liang Muqi, Xu Yicheng, and Chen Hao, all evacuating to the continent— the “Ocean's Light” plan could only assist humanity up to this point, and these Gamma Ray Cannons would have to be abandoned.
Above the sea level, Fierce Eagle was the first to notice something was off. He halted his pursuit in mid-air. Blue Face Hero, Zombie King, and Light Shuttle followed suit, realizing that they were now merely chasing instead of defending, just as their captain had said.
The remaining Flying Army knew they stood no chance against The Celestial Warriors. They were like little mice that could be easily crushed at any moment. They received news from the battleship “Judgment Day” and began to flee in panic.
“We can't let them escape!” Light Shuttle wanted to charge forward, but Zombie King flashed in front of her, stopping her hand from transforming: “Their main battleship is still in outer space; your three-dimensional human form cannot withstand the vacuum of space.”
The four gathered in mid-air. Nars put away the weapon he had taken from the Time-Space Equipment Library, leaving only the Thruster operating behind him. He said, “The human navy has suffered heavy losses and is retreating across the board. Fortunately, we have already taken down the ‘Kser’.”
“What do we do next? Should we continue forming a defense line at sea?” Miao Chengmin asked.
“It’s impossible to fight at sea anymore; the next battle will erupt on land,” An Xiaotian opened a situation analysis map and said, “And it’s not just our nation; countries like Argentina, Spain, and others across continents are facing invasions from internal Humans. National fleets may assist in defending their own countries; we will have to rely on ourselves for the main battlefield.”
“City M has already been bombed, specifically towards the direction of the Song Family Courtyard,” added Liu Xuan.
“What?!” exclaimed Taokalanphiel. “Then what about your civilians...?”
“They have already been evacuated; don’t worry,” replied Liu Xuan.
Though he said this, he was deeply concerned about the safety of Ma Yihan, who had gone to pick up Ming Juan and head to a safe house. He wondered if they had arrived safely.
“Captain! Captain!”
Everyone heard Lu Sha's voice through their earpieces.
“Are you still at the ocean defense line?”
“Yes, what’s wrong?” replied An Xiaotian, turning to look at the city behind them that was billowing black smoke. The sky occasionally lit up with beams that sounded like thunder, sending a jolt through him.
“They’ve already descended into the city! Now there are enemies everywhere in M City! Damn it, they’re playing dirty!” As she spoke, Lu Sha leaped onto the roof of a car. The enemy across from her aimed their guns at her, but she swiftly shot a Chain Spear, taking down one enemy with ease.
The four looked up in surprise as they noticed that the “Judgment Day” battleship had already begun moving. A massive shadow loomed overhead as enemies descended like scattered ash or falling black snowflakes towards the city behind them.
“Return immediately! Fei'er, go check if there are any civilians left in the city who haven’t made it to safety!” Without delay, An Xiaotian ordered. The four immediately flew back, with Light Shuttle leading the way. After transforming into a four-dimensional light form, she vanished from sight in an instant.
“Sister Jiao An, Sister Jiao An! ” continued An Xiaotian trying to contact her through his earpiece, but it was not her who responded; it was Qin Weishan.
“You can come back from your vacation at sea! Damn it, there are enemies everywhere! I can’t believe what you’ve been defending against out there!” Standing at the forefront set up by human forces, he raised his shield while Jiao An fired her sniper rifle from behind him. All soldiers crouched behind sandbags with them, blocking attacks from invading internal Humans trying to break through after descending from above.
“Reinforcements are on their way!” said An Xiaotian. “Are you coordinating with military defenses with Sister Jiao An!?”
“What else would I be doing? Am I going on a date with her?!” An energy blast exploded against his shield, forcing Qin Weishan to crouch down while still holding up his mechanical shield. He shouted into his earpiece as gunfire nearly drowned out his voice.
"Wow! I really thought you were on a date with Sister Jiao An!" The voice of Lu Sha came through the earpiece again. She couldn't understand where all these enemies were coming from. Even though she was clearly behind the front lines where Jiao An and Qin Weishan were, she had been fighting alongside the Divine Domain Vanguard and the Support Team for so long—"The front line is holding strong, so how can there be so many people in the rear?! I just don't get it!"
Lu Sha shouted in frustration, firing her Chain Spear, which pierced into the waist of a soldier ahead. After pulling it back, she unfurled her Fan Blade Knife and swiftly dispatched him with a single strike.
"These are all mercenaries from Longxing," Spirit Corps George explained as he tore apart an enemy in front of him, turning to Lu Sha. "They parachuted down from Judgment Day; we don't know how many more there are."
"Damn..." Lu Sha rolled her eyes, resting her hands on her knees as she sighed amidst the battlefield. "How long is this going to last?"
