"I'm sorry, but I remember very clearly that Rao Jie came back at ten-thirty last night. I had just finished watching the fireworks and chatting before returning. If you don't believe me, check the surveillance!"
The person was infuriated by Senior Sister's words. "Why are you helping her? Do you know what kind of person she is? She was just hugging the class leader yesterday and ran off to Professor Wu's room last night. Who knows what they did!"
Rao Jie turned pale instantly, and everyone waiting by the elevator looked at her. Just then, the elevator arrived, and feeling awkward, they all stepped inside one after another.
Senior Sister hesitated for a moment but still wanted to pull Rao Jie up with her. However, Rao Jie felt too uncomfortable under everyone's gaze.
At that moment, Rao Jie caught a glimpse of Chang Fei smirking disdainfully at her.
As the elevator doors were about to close, Rao Jie suddenly grabbed Senior Sister's hand and rushed into the elevator.
No one expected Rao Jie would dare to ride the elevator with them, so everyone awkwardly averted their eyes, except for three people.
Rao Jie’s grip on Senior Sister's hand was sweaty, but she took a deep breath and said, "My hug with the senior was just friendly. The senior can vouch for me; it’s not as scandalous as you think. I went to Professor Wu's room for a reason, but I only stayed for ten minutes. I wonder what you all think could happen in ten minutes."
Upon hearing this, everyone’s faces turned red to varying degrees, feeling embarrassed and unable to imagine the implications. However, some questions were self-evident; at least it wasn't as disgraceful as some had implied. They were still quite innocent and righteous, so they looked down upon such behavior.
Seeing the change in everyone's expressions, Rao Jie knew she had explained enough and turned it around. "By the way, I saw a certain Senior Sister waiting outside Professor Wu's door last night. Perhaps she was upset because Professor Wu didn’t let her in while I was allowed in. So she started spreading rumors about others. But while she was slandering others, did she ever think about how to explain her own actions?"
"What did you say!" Without needing Chang Fei to step in, someone else naturally took her side.
At this moment, Senior Sister understood what was happening and stepped forward to block Rao Jie. "What’s wrong? Did I hit a nerve? You can do whatever you want but don’t allow others to do the same? Chang Fei's face turned pale from the words spoken against her; her good friend wanted to defend her but was stopped by her. As soon as the elevator doors opened, Chang Fei coldly confronted Rao Jie.
"Rao Jie, what makes you think you deserve to stand beside Wu Rong? What do you have that matches him? Don’t you have any self-awareness or shame? I will make sure Wu Rong sees what kind of person you really are; don’t think you've won."
"Hey, you..." Before Senior Sister could finish speaking, Chang Fei and others exited one after another until only Senior Sister and Rao Jie remained.
Senior Sister quickly pulled the dazed Rao Jie out and seeing her pale face said, "Don’t listen to her nonsense. Later on, go tell Long Yong—no wait—Professor Wu about her badmouthing; let’s see if she still acts so smug!"
Rao Jie forced a laugh but felt uneasy from some of Chang Fei’s words that seemed to hit too close to home. The clarity she had gained last night began to waver once more.
