At first, Huizi did not understand the meaning of the words "Don't come near" that she heard over the phone.
A few days later, when Old Nie's Wife gave birth to a son, the couple came to the office to share their joy. Colleagues rushed to offer their congratulations, and Huizi wanted to see the adorable newborn. However, Old Nie's Wife seemed very resistant.
The statement sent a chill down Huizi's spine as she realized that the strange phone call had come from Old Nie's Wife, and it was clearly a warning from her.
Yet, Huizi did not grasp the seriousness of the situation; after all, she hadn't done anything particularly outrageous.
Suddenly, a noise came from the room, prompting Huizi to get up and check. A key had inexplicably slid to the floor.
In the next moment, the phone on the coffee table rang again, but fortunately, it was her best friend calling.
Her friend curiously asked if Huizi had developed feelings for Old Nie, and Huizi candidly admitted her true feelings.
However, before Huizi could finish her sentence, the voice on the other end suddenly changed to Meixue's, causing Huizi to drop her phone in fright.
At that moment, the power in the room went out. Just as she was frantically trying to turn on her phone's flashlight, a ghostly-looking Meixue appeared before her and swatted Huizi's phone away with a single slap, making Huizi hurriedly apologize and plead for mercy.
It wasn't until Huizi declared her intention to resign and promised never to see her husband again that the terrifying Meixue seemed to relent, and everything returned to calm.
Huizi couldn't fathom why a living person would haunt her like a ghost, but for her own safety, she immediately resigned the next day.
For the past seven years, she had not seen Old Nie again, until Meixue's funeral brought them face to face once more.
However, this encounter triggered nightmares once again.
That day, while Huizi was at home watching television, she suddenly felt a piercing wave of sound attack her. Moments later, her stainless steel cup exploded into pieces. Huizi knew this had to be related to Meixue.
Meanwhile, Xiao Shuai continued to sit by the mound of earth where his mother's severed fingers were buried, longing for the day they would be reunited.
Seeing this, Old Nie felt a pang of sorrow and urged his son to return to their room to rest.
But inadvertently, he noticed that the mound seemed to move slightly.
To confirm whether he was imagining things, Old Nie approached to take a closer look. To his astonishment, the mound was indeed shifting as if something inside was about to break through the surface.
In disbelief, Old Nie reached down to dig at the mound. What happened next nearly terrified him to death.
Old Nie knew that resurrection was impossible; whatever emerged from the ground could never be his wife.
Grabbing a wooden stick from the ground, he thrust it into the creature's body with a sharp "crack." After repeatedly stabbing it, the mysterious being retreated into the depths of the soil, covered in blood.
On the other side, Huizi encountered something strange as well. While riding the elevator home that night, she noticed a sticky substance on the button for her floor, resembling the thick mucus one gets during a cold.
The next moment, that same mental assault of noise returned, relentlessly vibrating against Huizi's eardrums. The sensation was even worse than having water in her ears.
The next day, the television station invited a master exorcist for an exclusive interview. Coincidentally, Huizi also worked there, and she ran into the master and his apprentice in the break room.
The master asked Huizi for a light to smoke, and it just so happened that she had with her the lighter she had intended to give to Old Nie seven years ago. However, when the master saw the lighter, his expression turned serious.
He quickly inquired whether Huizi had recently encountered any malevolent spirits. He warned that if left unchecked, their power would grow stronger and could eventually lead to her demise.
Huizi felt a surge of annoyance at his words, thinking to herself, "You really don't know how to speak, do you? Maybe you should just keep your mouth shut. I certainly don't believe in any of that ghost nonsense."
As the saying goes, ignoring the advice of elders can lead to immediate trouble.
Before long, Huizi found herself facing something strange.
