She walked into the house and had just closed the door when she heard a knock from outside.
Opening the door, she saw Liu Wen standing there.
She frowned slightly. "What are you doing here?"
Liu Wen looked at her, his expression serious. "Xue..."
Li Xue interrupted him, her tone calm. "We... between us..."
Liu Wen cut her off. "Can we talk?"
Li Xue paused for a moment before replying softly, "What do you want to talk about?"
Liu Wen hesitated for a few seconds, then said quietly, "I want to start over with you."
Li Xue looked at him and let out a light laugh. "Liu Wen, it's already over for us."
He shook his head. "No, it’s not over!"
Li Xue replied coolly, "Liu Wen, why bother? I don’t like you anymore."
He gazed at her intently. "Then who do you like? Gu Jingchen?"
Li Xue fell silent for a moment before answering softly, "Yes."
Liu Wen's face turned pale as he processed her words. His eyes were filled with sorrow.
"Xue, you can't do this to me."
Li Xue sighed. "Liu Wen, you deserve better."
He choked on his words. "But I only want you."
She pressed her lips together and said quietly, "But I no longer love you."
Liu Wen's body trembled slightly as he stared at her in despair.
"Xue, are you really going to be this cruel?"
Taking a deep breath, Li Xue replied calmly, "Liu Wen, I never regret my decisions."
He looked at her in shock. "You mean..."
She nodded firmly. "Yes, we are done."
Liu Wen fell silent, his eyes glistening with unshed tears as he looked at her.
Li Xue felt a pang of sadness in her heart as she spoke softly, "Liu Wen, let's part on good terms and not make things awkward for everyone."
After a long silence, Liu Wen closed his eyes.
He nodded slightly and murmured, "Alright, I respect your choice."
"..." Li Xue smiled, "Thank you."
"..." Liu Wen remained silent, his gaze on her filled with complexity.
Li Xue looked at him and softly said, "If you don't have anything else, I'll head back now."
"..." Liu Wen paused for a moment before quietly saying, "Xiao Xue, can I hold you one last time?"
"..." Li Xue hesitated for a moment and nodded, "Okay."
Liu Wen looked at her and gently reached out to pull her into his embrace.
He held her tightly, resting his chin on her shoulder, closing his eyes as tears streamed down his face.
He whispered, "Xiao Xue, you must be happy."
"..." Li Xue said nothing; she leaned against him, closing her eyes, feeling a sense of calm.
After a long while, they parted.
Liu Wen looked at her and forced a smile, "Goodbye, Xiao Xue."
"..." Li Xue nodded slightly, "Goodbye."
Liu Wen took a deep look at her before turning to leave.
Li Xue watched his figure disappear at the staircase and sighed.
She turned and walked into the house, closing the door behind her and leaning against it, feeling conflicted.
She and Liu Wen had finally reached this point.
As she thought about it, Gu Jingchen's face appeared in her mind.
She recalled what happened that evening and felt a bit puzzled.
She didn't understand why Gu Jingchen had been at that banquet.
After some contemplation, she took out her phone and sent Gu Jingchen a message.
"Why did you come today?"
"..."
The message was sent successfully but there was no reply for a long time.
Li Xue stared at the phone screen, feeling a bit disappointed.
She sighed, put away her phone, and walked over to the sofa to sit down.
Looking at the empty room, she felt a sense of loneliness wash over her.
After thinking for a moment, she grabbed the remote control and turned on the television, randomly selecting a movie to watch.
The film was a romance where the male and female leads faced numerous hardships before finally coming together.
Li Xue watched the movie, her mood gradually calming down. As she observed the male and female leads, a faint smile tugged at the corners of her lips.
After the film ended, she turned off the television and returned to her bedroom, lying down on the bed and slowly closing her eyes.
The next morning, she woke up and picked up her phone to check for messages, only to find that Gu Jingchen still hadn't replied. After pondering for a moment, she sent another message.
"Are you there?"
Silence followed.
The message seemed to vanish into thin air. Li Xue stared at her phone screen, feeling increasingly agitated. After a moment's thought, she dialed Gu Jingchen's number.
The phone rang a few times before it was abruptly hung up.
Listening to the busy tone on the line only heightened her frustration. She contemplated again and called him back.
Once more, the call was cut off.
Frowning deeply, Li Xue glared at her phone. She took a deep breath and tried again.
The call was disconnected yet again.
Fuming, she dialed once more. This time, after several rings, it was finally answered.
Gu Jingchen's voice came through the line, "Hello?"
Li Xue paused for a moment before softly asking, "What are you doing?"
Gu Jingchen replied coolly, "Working."
She bit her lip and quietly questioned, "Why haven't you replied to my messages?"
