"Sister-in-law?"
Li Xue was chatting happily with Zhang Lin when the sudden call of "Sister-in-law" left her momentarily stunned.
She blinked and turned to the person approaching, "You..."
Wasn't this the person she had seen at Gu Jingchen's house that day?
"Sister-in-law, it's me, Chen Hao!" Chen Hao said with a cheerful smile.
Li Xue was speechless.
"Chen Hao, what did you just call her?" Zhang Lin asked, her brows furrowing slightly.
"Sister-in-law, of course," Chen Hao replied as if it were the most natural thing in the world, sitting down between them. "I'm a good brother of Gu Jingchen, so I have to call his girlfriend sister-in-law."
At his words, both Li Xue and Zhang Lin were taken aback.
Zhang Lin looked at Li Xue in surprise, "You... have a boyfriend now?"
Li Xue's face flushed with embarrassment, but she nodded gently.
Seeing this, Zhang Lin's expression instantly darkened.
Chen Hao glanced between the two of them and scratched his nose, "So, what were you two chatting about that was so enjoyable?"
"Nothing much," Li Xue quickly replied. "We were just discussing some work-related matters."
"Work?" Chen Hao blinked. "What kind of work?"
Li Xue looked at Zhang Lin. "We plan to start an online company together."
"An online company?" Chen Hao's eyes lit up. "Why wasn't I included in such a great opportunity?"
"You want to join too?" Li Xue asked in surprise.
"Of course!" Chen Hao nodded vigorously. "How could I miss out on something like this?"
Zhang Lin smiled lightly, "Of course you can join; the more people, the more strength we have."
"That's true," Chen Hao agreed wholeheartedly.
Li Xue watched as the two chatted back and forth, unsure of what to say herself. Just then, her phone rang. She took it out and saw it was a call from Gu Jingchen.
She bit her lip and answered the call, "Hello?"
"Where are you?"
The man's deep voice came through, tinged with an unmistakable hint of anger.
Li Xue paused for a moment before instinctively replying, "I'm out eating."
"With whom?"
"..." Li Xue glanced at Zhang Lin and Chen Hao across from her. "With friends."
"What friends?"
Li Xue bit her lip again, "Just... regular friends."
"..."
As she listened to the breathing on the other end of the line, her heart raced uncontrollably. She bit her teeth slightly and asked, "Do you... need something from me?"
"It's nothing."
Li Xue paused, "Then why did you call?"
She took a deep breath. "I'll hang up now."
"Wait!"
"…," Li Xue frowned. "What now?"
"My stomach is acting up."
"…"
Li Xue was taken aback. "How did that happen? Did you forget to eat again?"
"…"
"Just wait, I'll come over right away."
Li Xue hung up the phone and glanced apologetically at Zhang Lin and Chen Hao. "Sorry, I have to leave for a bit."
"What’s going on?" Chen Hao asked curiously.
Li Xue bit her lip. "My… boyfriend has a stomach issue, I need to check on him."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Lin's eyes flickered slightly, but she said nothing.
"Oh, then go quickly."
Li Xue nodded and got up to leave.
As soon as she was gone, Chen Hao turned to Zhang Lin, raising an eyebrow. "Are you serious?"
Zhang Lin smiled faintly. "Do I look like I'm joking?"
Chen Hao shrugged. "I don't think he’s into you."
Zhang Lin's expression changed slightly, but she remained silent.

Li Xue drove straight to the the Gu after leaving the restaurant. When she arrived at the building, she suddenly realized that visiting Gu Jingchen required an appointment. She took out her phone to call him, but there was no answer. She tried calling the assistant Wang as well, but no one picked up.
Frowning, Li Xue had no choice but to go to the front desk for help. The receptionist informed her that Gu Jingchen was in a meeting and that she would have to wait a while. With no other options, Li Xue sat down in the nearby waiting area.
After nearly an hour of waiting, Li Xue grew impatient and got up again to find the receptionist.
"Miss, the president is still in a meeting."
Li Xue sighed, biting her lip. "Then I'll just call him."
As she spoke, she called Gu Jingchen again. This time, the call was quickly connected.
Li Xue paused slightly, "Are you done with the meeting?"
"No."
"..." Li Xue frowned, "Then why did you answer the phone?"
"…"
Taking a deep breath, Li Xue said, "I'm downstairs. When will you finish?"
"Soon."
"…"
How soon is soon? Li Xue could only helplessly return to the waiting area.
Half an hour passed as she waited.
Li Xue glanced at the time; it was almost eight o'clock. She bit her lip and called Gu Jingchen again.
The phone rang for a long time before it was answered.
"Are you done yet..."
"Miss Li."
Before Li Xue could finish her sentence, the voice of the assistant Wang came through.
Li Xue was momentarily taken aback, " assistant Wang, is Gu Jingchen ready?"
"Miss Li, you can come up directly."
Li Xue, "…"
She hung up the phone and got up to enter the elevator.
After reaching the top floor, Li Xue stepped out of the elevator and saw the assistant Wang waiting for her at the door.
"Miss Li, please follow me."
Li Xue nodded and followed the assistant Wang into the office.
Inside the office, Gu Jingchen was sitting on the sofa eating his meal.
Li Xue froze for a moment, instinctively stopping in her tracks.
She stood there, maintaining a distance that was neither too far nor too close from Gu Jingchen.
The assistant Wang had already left.
Only she and Gu Jingchen remained in the office.
Li Xue looked at Gu Jingchen, opened her mouth to speak but couldn't make a sound.
Gu Jingchen also remained silent, quietly eating his meal.
The aroma of food filled the office, causing Li Xue's stomach to churn.
Her face turned pale as she quickly covered her nose and stepped back a few paces.
Gu Jingchen glanced at her, his gaze slightly heavy, but he said nothing.
Li Xue walked to the window and opened it. The cold wind swept in, dispersing the lingering smell of food in the room. She took a deep breath, feeling a bit better in her stomach.
Behind her, Gu Jingchen's deep voice called out, "Come eat."
Li Xue paused and turned to look at him. Gu Jingchen was focused on his meal, his expression indifferent.
She bit her lip and walked over to the sofa, sitting down. "No thanks, I already ate outside."
"Then why did you come over?" Gu Jingchen raised his eyes to glance at her.
Feeling a bit guilty, Li Xue averted her gaze. "Aren't you having stomach pains? I came to check on you."
"Now you've seen."
Li Xue pursed her lips. "Are you okay?"
"I won't die."
Li Xue looked at his cold demeanor and felt an inexplicable discomfort in her heart. She bit her lip again. "Are you angry?"
Gu Jingchen paused his eating momentarily but quickly resumed as if nothing had happened. "Why would I be angry?"
Li Xue lowered her head. "Because I lied to you."
Gu Jingchen's gaze darkened slightly. "What did you lie about?"
Taking a deep breath, Li Xue confessed, "I was with someone else."
Gu Jingchen tightened his grip on the chopsticks. "With someone else?"
Li Xue shook her head quickly. "Don't misunderstand; it's not what you think."
"Then what is it?"
Li Xue bit her lip again. "I was with him to discuss work matters."
"Work?" Gu Jingchen frowned slightly. "Who are you talking about?"
"You don't know him."
Gu Jingchen's expression darkened further. "Is it that man from the other day at your place?"
Li Xue nodded slightly.
Gu Jingchen's face instantly turned grim.
"I swear, we were really just talking about work," Li Xue explained.
Gu Jingchen's expression remained sour.
With a helpless sigh, Li Xue said, "I really didn't lie to you."
"..." Gu Jingchen remained silent, but he also stopped eating.
Li Xue looked at him, "What's wrong with you?"
"..." Gu Jingchen pressed his lips together, "Why are you sitting so far away? Afraid I'll eat you?"
"..." Li Xue was slightly taken aback and quickly moved to sit beside him.
Only then did Gu Jingchen's expression improve a little.
He turned to look at Li Xue, "You just said you were discussing work? What kind of work?"
"..." Li Xue bit her lip, "We want to start an online company together."
"An online company?" Gu Jingchen looked at her in surprise, "What made you suddenly want to start an online company?"
Li Xue smiled, "I just think that internet technology is developing rapidly now, so I want to take advantage of this trend to make some money."
"..." Gu Jingchen frowned slightly, "If you want to make money, I can give it to you."
Li Xue was taken aback but shook her head, "I don't want to rely on you."

He looked at her with deep eyes.

Gu Jingchen looked at her, a hint of amusement flashing in his eyes.
He nodded, "Alright, whenever you're free, I'll take you for a visit."
"Really?" Li Xue smiled brightly, "That would be great."
"..." Gu Jingchen watched the smile on her face, his gaze flickering slightly.
