I decided to take the risk and crack the code in the mysterious book found in Chen Xinghe's study. Over the past few days, I had researched extensively, learning various cryptographic techniques—from the Caesar cipher to the Vigenère cipher, from Morse code to the fence cipher. It felt like I was back in college, but this time the stakes were my life.
With some information provided by anonymous users about the Zeta Aliens' language, I speculated that the symbols in the book might be a hybrid code based on pictographs and letters. I numbered each symbol and tried to discern patterns among them. After several days of effort, I finally deciphered a few simple words: "Zeta," "Earth," and "Base." The appearance of these words convinced me even more that this book was related to the Zeta Aliens' conspiracy.
I continued my research and eventually decoded a complete message:
"…Zero Base… Initiate… Fusion Experiment… Sample Number… LM-001…"
LM-001? Could that be my designation?
A wave of fear washed over me; it turned out that I was not only assigned three "husbands" but was also a guinea pig for the Zeta Aliens' experiments! The book also mentioned a key location—"Zero Base." Based on the context, this "Zero Base" was likely the Zeta Aliens' secret base on Earth, where they conducted their "Fusion Experiment."
I had to go there to uncover the truth! The factory had once been a biopharmaceutical plant in the old days but was abandoned after an accident. The official reason for the accident had been covered up, deepening my suspicions. I decided to take the risk and infiltrate this factory to find out what was really going on.
I knew it was dangerous, but I had no choice. I needed Zhou Yu's help. He was skilled in disguise and stealth—special skills he honed as an "artist." I confided part of the truth to him, explaining that we needed to infiltrate a dangerous place to find something important. He didn't ask too many questions; he simply nodded silently.
I also brought Lu Yuan along. Although I had my doubts about him, he was a former soldier with extensive combat experience and could protect us when it mattered most. I didn't tell him about the Zeta Aliens; I merely said we needed to investigate some truths regarding the "Reproduction Plan." He hesitated for a moment but ultimately agreed.
On a pitch-black night, the three of us arrived at the abandoned factory. The area around the factory was eerily silent, with only a few dim streetlights swaying in the wind, creaking and groaning, adding to the terrifying atmosphere.
Zhou Yu used his "artistic" talents to disguise us as the factory's discarded robots, employing some simple tools to bypass the surveillance devices surrounding the facility. Lu Yuan took charge of keeping watch and providing cover; his military training proved invaluable in this environment. We cautiously infiltrated the interior of the factory.
Inside, the factory was even more dilapidated than outside, with scattered equipment and documents everywhere, and a pungent chemical smell hung in the air. Deep within the factory, we discovered a massive metal door equipped with a complex electronic lock. I attempted to use the electronic key card I had stolen from Chen Xinghe, and to my surprise, it worked!
Beyond the door lay an enormous underground space, brightly lit and starkly contrasting with the ruinous scene outside. This was "Zero Base"! We saw numerous personnel in white protective suits busily operating advanced equipment and conducting various experiments.
In one large petri dish, I spotted a familiar figure—Chen Xinghe! He was wearing a lab coat and a mask, intently observing something in the dish... an embryo? I finally understood that the so-called "Fusion Experiment" involved merging human genes with those of Zeta Aliens to create a new generation of hybrid species!
Just then, we were discovered. Several guards in black uniforms rushed toward us, wielding strange weapons that resembled energy guns. Lu Yuan reacted swiftly; he snatched a weapon from one guard and provided cover for me and Zhou Yu to retreat.
"Lu Yuan..." I glanced back to see Lu Yuan's figure swallowed by the guards, my heart filled with worry and guilt.
"We will go back to save him!" Zhou Yu said firmly, sensing my thoughts. He grabbed my hand and urged me to keep running forward.
"We need to get out of here first!" he shouted.
