As I watched the farce unfold before me, I let out a sigh of relief; the show had finally come to a successful conclusion. Just then, the sudden wail of police sirens pierced through the chaos and noise of the wedding scene.
The murmurs of the guests were instantly silenced as they turned to look at the door that had been flung open with force. A group of seven or eight uniformed police officers entered, their expressions stern and serious. Their gazes were like sharp swords, locking onto Gu Junjie and Zhang Ya on the stage.
At that moment, Gu Junjie's face turned as pale as paper. He stared in disbelief, his eyes wide open as if struck by lightning, frozen in place and unable to move. Meanwhile, Zhang Ya, who had been gripping Gu Junjie's collar and angrily questioning him about his gambling debts, also changed color upon seeing the police. Her lips trembled, and she couldn't utter a single word.
“Gu Junjie, Zhang Ya, you are suspected of selling scientific research secrets. Please come with us,” the lead officer spoke authoritatively. His voice echoed through the wedding venue like a thunderclap, leaving everyone stunned.
“What? Selling scientific research secrets?” The guests gasped in shock, struggling to believe their ears. How could this be? The refined and promising groom, the seemingly innocent and kind bridesmaid—how could they be involved in such things?
I looked coldly at the two on stage; this was their just end. For the sake of money and profit, they had resorted to unscrupulous means, and now they would finally pay for their actions.
Gu Junjie trembled as he tried to argue, “Police... officers, you must be mistaken! How could I possibly sell scientific research secrets?”
Zhang Ya came back to her senses and shook her head vigorously, tears streaming down her cheeks. “No... it’s not like that, we just... just...” She stammered for a long time but couldn't articulate her thoughts.
The police were not interested in their explanations. They stepped forward, each taking hold of Gu Junjie and Zhang Ya, preparing to escort them away.
Seeing this, Gu Junjie's Father rushed forward in an attempt to intervene. “Officers, you can't take my son! He’s innocent; someone must have framed him!”
“Framed? Hmph, the evidence is conclusive; do you still want to argue?” The officer shot him a cold glance and tossed a document in front of him. “This is the scientific data we seized from the buyer; it has your son’s fingerprints and signature on it. What else do you have to say?”
Gu Junjie's Father picked up the document with trembling hands and glanced at it, instantly feeling as if he had been struck by lightning, collapsing to the ground in despair. He looked at his son in disbelief, as if seeing him for the first time.
The guests were even more shocked by this scene, rendered speechless. They whispered among themselves, some lamenting how unpredictable life could be, others mourning how a beautiful wedding had turned into this disaster, while some took pleasure in the misfortune of Gu Junjie and Zhang Ya, believing they had brought this upon themselves.
I walked over to my father, gently holding his hand and giving him a grateful glance. He patted the back of my hand in a gesture of comfort. This wedding was exactly how I wanted it to be.
Gu Junjie and Zhang Ya's misdeeds had finally been exposed, and they received the punishment they deserved. After the police took Gu Junjie and Zhang Ya away, the wedding venue fell into silence. Guests began to disperse; some were busy refunding their contributions, while others discussed what had just happened. As for Gu Junjie’s family, they had long since fainted from grief.
I looked at their disheveled state and felt a cold smile creep onto my lips. This was their just end. For the sake of money and profit, they had sold their conscience and morals, and now they were finally paying the price for their actions.
A few days later, I received news that Gu Junjie and Zhang Ya had been sentenced. They were given heavy prison terms for trafficking scientific secrets and gambling offenses. I knew that this was all self-inflicted. The bitter fruit of their own making could only be silently tasted in prison.
As for me, I remained the carefree and charming Princess Lin. Outside, the spring sun shone brightly, and my future could only get better.
