That evening, Wu Rong had arranged a romantic candlelit dinner in a private dining room, with the beautiful Seine River illuminated by the night sky outside.
Rao Jie was dining in such a setting for the first time, and with the language barrier, she felt quite reserved. However, as she watched Wu Rong communicate fluently in the Romantic Language, she couldn't help but admire him.
Once Wu Rong had everything set up and turned to look at Rao Jie, he found her staring at him with a dazed expression.
"What's wrong? Is something not to your liking?" he asked.
Rao Jie shook her head and replied, "I just think you're amazing. You can speak the Romantic Language too?"
Wu Rong smiled lightly and said, "You know my parents have worked here for many years, and Wu Xin studies here as well. So it’s a bit easier for me to speak the Romantic Language. If you want to learn, I can teach you."
Rao Jie immediately asked with curiosity, "Really?"
Wu Rong nodded and said, "I'll teach you a common greeting: je t'aime."
Rao Jie paused, looking at Wu Rong with a blank expression.
But Wu Rong seemed very excited as he encouraged her, "Come on, repeat after me. The pronunciation is easy: je t'aime."
Rao Jie felt her face gradually heat up.
"If I learn this, can I greet anyone I meet right away?" she asked.
Wu Rong choked slightly, his mouth twitching at her question.
Rao Jie laughed lightly and said, "Even if I don’t know the Romantic Language, I've heard some phrases before."
"Je t'aime means 'I love you,'" she thought to herself.
Wu Rong assumed she didn't understand the phrase and tried to tease her about it.
Feeling somewhat disappointed, he asked, "How could you have heard that? Has someone said it to you?"
Rao Jie chuckled as she sipped her water but didn’t answer him.
However, Wu Rong couldn’t help but press further.
Feeling cornered, Rao Jie finally admitted, "Your sister used that phrase to tease someone when she was just learning it, just like you did."
Wu Rong raised an eyebrow, silently noting this down about Wu Xin in his mind; it had thwarted his plans.
After finishing their meal, Wu Rong took Rao Jie for a walk along the Seine River. However, throughout the stroll, Wu Rong remained surprisingly quiet.
The quietness of Wu Rong made Rao Jie feel strangely tense.
Around them, the atmosphere was lively, filled with music, couples kissing, and people dancing everywhere. Even the cold couldn't dampen the enthusiasm; romance permeated the air. Yet, it seemed as if the surrounding situation had nothing to do with these two. They walked side by side, an odd ambiance enveloping them, creating a barrier that separated them from the outside world.
Rao Jie’s heartbeat gradually quickened when suddenly, Wu Rong stopped in his tracks. They had come to a place where few people lingered, near a fountain. The wind blowing from the riverbank was bone-chilling, yet the hand that Wu Rong unexpectedly grasped was terrifyingly warm.
Wu Rong hadn’t chosen this spot on purpose; he simply felt compelled to express something at that moment. Rao Jie thought he had something to say, but instead, he held her wrist and silently placed a bracelet on her.
The bracelet had been tucked away in his coat pocket all along, hidden well enough that Rao Jie hadn’t noticed it before. Its design was simple and elegant, featuring a four-leaf clover charm at its center—something Rao Jie would definitely like. However, in that moment, she didn’t pay much attention to it; she merely stared blankly at Wu Rong while allowing him to adjust it on her wrist.
Once he secured the bracelet, Wu Rong lifted his gaze to meet hers, his deep black eyes pure and direct, as if waiting for him to say something.
