Wu Rong didn't say anything too excessive; Rao Jie simply felt very embarrassed. Just as Wu Rong was about to continue comforting Rao Jie, the phone rang again. However, when Wu Rong saw the caller ID, he frowned and hung up the call. When it rang again, he turned off his phone entirely.
At that moment, Wu Rong's expression was uncontrollably grim. Rao Jie sensed something was off and decided not to dwell on the previous matter any longer. Wu Rong's attitude towards this call was completely different from how he treated Ye Ming; in fact, it was even more unpleasant than receiving a call from a stranger trying to sell something. This meant it was someone Wu Rong knew but wanted nothing to do with.
Why would they choose this moment to call? Rao Jie, not wanting to upset Wu Rong further, asked anxiously, "Was it something I shouldn't have posted on social media?"
Wu Rong snapped back to reality and gently kissed Rao Jie's forehead, managing to suppress his displeasure as he replied, "It has nothing to do with you; it's just some annoying people."
Just as Rao Jie was about to ask more questions, her phone suddenly rang. When she saw it was Wu Xin calling, she answered immediately.
"Hey! You guys came to Flower City without telling me?"
Rao Jie was puzzled as to why Wu Xin hadn't shown up for so long; it turned out that Wu Rong hadn't mentioned anything to her at all. She shot an exasperated glance at Wu Rong.
Wu Rong heard his sister's loud voice but shrugged it off with indifference. Just as Rao Jie was about to explain the situation to Wu Xin, her sister interrupted with urgency, "Where are you? Tell me now!"
Rao Jie responded in shock.
Wu Xin shouted back, "Don't move! Wait for me!" Without waiting for a reply, she hung up.
"What happened?" Wu Rong looked over.
Rao Jie twitched her mouth and said, "Wu Xin is coming over."
Wu Rong frowned impatiently and clicked his tongue, pulling Rao Jie along as if he wanted to leave and avoid Wu Xin. But there was no way Rao Jie would agree to that; in the end, she persuaded Wu Rong to wait for Wu Xin together.
Wu Xin rushed over and gave Rao Jie a big hug. Just as Wu Rong was about to get angry, Wu Xin sweetly called out, "Sister-in-law!" which completely diffused Wu Rong's irritation.
While Wu Rong had calmed down, Rao Jie felt quite awkward. Being with her best friend's brother was a feeling that not everyone could understand. However, Wu Xin seemed very happy and insisted on taking Rao Jie out for a celebratory feast.
"Ah! What a pity that my parents went on a trip to South America this morning. They didn't see your social media posts; otherwise, they would have definitely come with me," Wu Xin said regretfully.
Rao Jie was quite frightened by this. She knew Wu Xin's parents well since they were good friends, and she often visited their home during high school. Uncle and Auntie were both wonderful people, but given her awkward position now, meeting them suddenly would feel very strange.
Rao Jie was relieved that they had posted their trip later than usual.
Wu Xin ordered an extravagant meal without hesitation, claiming she wanted to treat Wu Rong.
Wu Rong raised an eyebrow and asked, "On what grounds?"
With a cheerful grin, Wu Xin took Rao Jie's hand and said, "I am your matchmaker! If I hadn't encouraged Jie Jie to come to our house back then, you two wouldn't have met!"
Rao Jie thought about it and realized that was indeed true.
Wu Rong, however, countered with a playful accusation, "Then why didn’t you bring Rao Jie to me sooner? We missed out on so much time! Hmph, you two have known each other for quite a while."
It was ironic that they had been so close yet had never had the chance to meet. If only they had known each other sooner…
